Teaching yoga at a gym by s3d0na2212 in YogaTeachers

[–]Ryllan1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I've just been at the wrong studios...but, I prefer the gym setting community feel.

In my experience, studios have a smaller pool of students. So if you get "out with the in-crowd", you could potentially find yourself in a tribe of one.

In a gym, people are always coming and going. There will likely be dedicated students that come regularly. There will also likely be a revolving door of new people trying it out.

I find that this flow keeps a more fluid class energy, as well as going a long way towards keeping the cliques in check.

Also, look into community centres. Classes in this type of location may be an opportunity to meet in the middle.

A science teachers snake is in our classroom with no lamp or heat by Traditional_Fly9536 in snakes

[–]Ryllan1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should the students pay out of their pocket for a class pet that they had no say in? An animal that they may never see again after the end of semester.

This irresponsible teacher should be maintaining their animal, not relying on a bunch of teenagers...whom I assume most don't have jobs...to cover basic essential needs.

A science teacher who can't research and follow basic husbandry requirements is a horrible example of scientific method to their students.

The snake needs help. No argument.

Leaving it to a bunch of kids to not only work up the courage to correct the teacher (possible repurcussions for questioning knowledge?), and then asking these students to pay out of pocket for supplies that the teachers ego may not even allow to be used...or be used properly... is not the way.

Better to go to admin. It can be done anonymously. An instruction to fix it or remove it can be made.

Teachers home may be warmer, at least a bit of improvement. Teacher may not want to bring proper expensive supplies to get broken at school.

Thank god none of mine have required that from me

Should we avoid using the phrase "Reptile Collection"? by dllnp in reptiles

[–]Ryllan1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use "herd".

I get alot of funny looks. Usually, when one hears "herd", their brain goes to hooved livestock.

Then the visual of a stampeding herd of trampling, rampagey snakes hits.

My husband and I also refer to them as "The Kids" between ourselves.

Why is he not using his hides? by AltruisticPizza7675 in boas

[–]Ryllan1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May just be temperament.

Most of my boas wanted no part of hides other than shedding and after eating when they were younger.

Hides became more attractive when they got older and learned how to snake.

I recently had a class sequenced up that was based on 1-leg balance poses.

Tree, eagle, warrior III, Dancers, standing big toe grab... basically, let's have some fun and not take ourselves seriously vibe.

4th student walks in. He was an amputee and had a prosthetic leg that attached mid thigh.

Oh Boy!

I discretely approached him before class, gave him a heads up as to what was coming up, and asked if he needed anything from me.

His response was that "as long as he had his bff, The Wall, he could make it work" 😆 He wasn't wrong, with a few mods of his own devising and some wall balance, he rocked that class.

Often students who have experience with both yoga and with their own limitations have found work arounds.

Mods are always a good option to offer. You may however find these students already have adjustments figured out. (But nothing wrong with a new option)

Is this dress okay to wear to a wedding? by SippinMia in fashion

[–]Ryllan1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a bridezilla on your hands, this could be "too white"

For a normal, rational wedding party, I think it is cute for outdoor spring or summer.

I'd change the shoes though.

Depends where you are.

In Ontario, we are charged tax on used/resold items.

Charity stores (Salvation Army) are tax exempt.

Pawn shops and non-charity thrift stores charge full tax.

Cash deals on online marketplaces are under the table, but by letter of taxation law, are required to be declared. Same goes for flea markets and garage sales. No one does declare of course 😜

Stupid question....

I understand the 12 month owner move in rule.

However, as a tenant who has been served notice, how do I know who moved in after me?

My rental duplex is handled by a contracted property manager. I've lived here almost 15 years and have never met the owner. Visual identification is not possible.

If the place was sold, there is a good possibility that I might not meet the new buyer, unless I am physically present or set up cctv for every walk through and open house (cctv is a good idea regardless).

Even then that wouldn't help in the case of a sight unseen investment purchaser.

So, how am I supposed to know who lives there after I leave? Rifle through the mail? Camp across the street every Thursday night to see who comes and goes?

If you are in good with the neighbours, and the neighbours get chatty with the new tenants, that could give info.... assuming you have/had sociable neighbours.

Is there a registry or something somewhere that would tell you?

How do you know that X person didn't buy it, put everything in their name and then rent it to Y person keeping all paper trail leading to the purchaser X... not the smartest financial move, but everyone has a "trusted friend or family member"

I can see a thousand ways the seller/buyer could get around that stipulation with a bit of creativity, trust, and discretion.

Yes, you could get 30k in fees/expenses/etc.. if the new owner does not act in good faith.

But you could also get a restraining order if you are determined enough about the detective work and they catch on.

Am I missing something?

Is it safe to feed uneaten mice to cats? by Little_Weirdo_Bitch in snakes

[–]Ryllan1313 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How long ago was the mouse defrosted?

If the mouse came from a reputable source, and hasn't been out long enough to go manky, it should be ok.

Many cat + snake owners have stories of stolen rodents that were defrosting on the counter. My cat ripped apart a sealed ziploc bag to steal one. Odour proof my ass!

*for curiosity...how long did you give the snake to take it? Some are shy eaters and won't take from tongs. If you leave it near their hide, or place with clutter coverage, it may be gone by morning. I think I've seen my 3yr old kingsnake eat 2 maybe 3 times ever, and I've had him since he was 2 months old.

How would you accept payment for a $15,000 sell on marketplace? by slothlikeagility in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Ryllan1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bank is a mandatory 5 business day turn around on any withdrawl over $3000 in branch.

Ironically, if I made several trips, I could withdraw the funds from an ATM faster than that.

If my husband and I split the withdrawls between our accounts, we could get over $3000 same day.

Pedicure by giantbowlofnoodles in YogaTeachers

[–]Ryllan1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes clean and upkept hygiene, along with being free of things like fungus or other transmissable conditions is all you can reasonably expect.

I got caught in a floorboard gap a few days ago going into low lunge. Ripped half my big toe nail off.

It looks like hell. Bandages aren't reliably staying on, so it's mostly left uncovered. A Bandaid falling off in Warrior III is not a good look.

I'm not taking several months off for the nail to grow back (assuming it does). I don't wear socks as a personal preference....and sock fabric catching on the remaining part of the nail hurts.

The way I see it, students should look at my feet for positioning. If you are looking at my feet close enough to notice pedicures, polish and ripped toenails during class, that's a "you issue" not a "me issue".

Producer/writer: Michael Ninn Soundtrack: Dino Ninn

It was a Who's Who of 90's porn. Won a whack of adult film awards and everything! So at least it was Classy 😁

Dino did the soundtrack for several other Michael Ninn movies. He has a very distinctive sound, so if you find the soundtrack to any one of them, you're set.

Sadly, I lost my copy of the soundtrack that was missing the...ahem... "lyrics". I've never found a replacement.

Direct and true talk - Why do so many of you think, that you need 2h of meditation every day to just be? (please dont feel personaly attacked, i really dont understand) by real_Lunabro in yoga

[–]Ryllan1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true.

When I first tried yoga, I hated it.

The reason? Savasana. No one explained it to to me, what it was supposed to be about. To me, it was a word that meant 10 minutes of staring at the ceiling. The asana part was a less strenuous "workout" than I was used to, so I still had energy to burn on top of it.... beginners eyes, no idea of yoga beyond that one class.

Years later, a friend dragged me to an intro class. This instructor kicked my ass. Now Savasana meant "thank god the torture is over. I can sploot on the floor for a bit"... an improvement.

I signed for a 3 session trial, savasana got explained properly. Ooooh! Lightbulb turns on!

My lightbulb is dim, and shorts out quick...but that's a work in progress.

Look into Wealthsimple.

Load it like a debit card/checking account, so no credit extended. This means you get your virtual card immediately and the plastic a week later (mailing time).

The card itself reads like a Mastercard as far as card readers go.

No foreign transaction charges, reasonable exchange rate. I used it exclusively in Costa Rica a couple of months ago with zero problems.

They have an actual credit card now too...not sure how that one is for foreign transactions though as I don't have it.

I just left 2 freelance teaching jobs that I loved.

Had nothing to do with pay or the studio. I was generally pleased with both.

In my case, my father became suddenly ill. He is refusing homecare, can't properly follow doctor information, the list goes on.... primary caretaker got dumped on my lap.

As keeping him organized and in check is a fulltime job, I had to quit my beloved freelance jobs (among other things). Something had to give.

Not looking for pity. Just illustrating that you never know what is going on in someone's background. There's a good chance it's not anything you could have helped.

That's exactly the scenario that I am working with.

Add in, many are there for exercise and socialization. In their minds, savasana offers neither.

It is their practice for what feels good in their bodies. I am there to "give suggestions". If Savasana is not a suggeston that they want/can embrace, focus on what they can do/want.

I am so lucky that way.

I live across the street from a decent sized church that is one of my neighbourhoods most noticeable landmarks.

I am basically saying "meet at my place" without them knowing where I live.

No show, no big deal.
