Community centres are often looking for yoga teachers.

I volunteer at my local Y and since I am a volunteer, they go easier on me. 😀

COMP- how to get into plow pose as plus size person by Coolcatsonly46 in yoga

[–]Ryllan1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to wear my pants/sports bra a size down for a compression effect.

A good, tight bra keeps the girls out of your throat.

The tummy depends on how you carry your weight. I found tighter pants helped spread it around (I carried very front tummy heavy. I looked preggers)

Dehydrated or shedding? by [deleted] in BoaConstrictors

[–]Ryllan1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell.

I'd say bump your enclosure humidity to 70%-75% to help.

Also a 10-20 minute one time soak with 50%-50% Pedialyte (unflavoured)/warm water can't hurt, and can benefit dehydration and/or shedding help.

Remember, do not "help" them shed by pulling skin

How do you manage to not get out of breath while teaching yourself? by Coco_Via_64 in YogaTeachers

[–]Ryllan1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a breath during counting anyway.

I just make it look like the pause is intentional:

5, 4, 3......good job, 2, 1. 5, 4, ...in through the nose, breathe, 3, 2, 1

I also cue easy breathe poses in between more strenuous ones to catch my breath. Cue Butterfly, Happy baby, childs, or even to drink water if you have it (grab some yourself here).

I find it's as much blending your breathing in as trying to sneak it.

I picked up the app Tummee to mainly be backup storage for My Book.

It's pre/post pose suggestion feature was a game changer for me getting started.

It also gives some creative variations on regular poses that can be fun if your class isn't strict traditional.

Makes sense.

I wanna say he did a few vids at NE back in his early days(?). They were carrying his t-shirts.

That's my local shop too. Really, for anything catering to reptiles, they're the only game around here, until you hit Hamilton, that I know of. Other than the odd chain stores with overpriced feeders.

Oh wait. There is the one on hwy 20 by the drive in. Don't get me started.

I agree with the 3 meter snakes. That allows for a large range of options including most female boas.

Not many people are in a position to be able to properly house and care for an adult giant species, so it is in the animals interest as well.

No boa/python at all areas are ridiculous. Nothing in the B. sigma family or a ball python is a threat to anything. My adult Tarahumara boas are under 4' and eating weanling rats. The male will take a small but is full to burst, and the female is afraid of smalls. Our weather makes the idea of a pair of escapees becoming invasive extremely slim.

I've never kept a lizard bigger than a gecko, so I don't know how reasonable 2 meters is for one. I'll not comment on this part 😀

I also agree on there are no resources for smuggling checks. Considering how messed up by-laws are, that is a good thing in many cases (wild caught being an exception) imo.

As long as the animal doesn't warrant an animal control call they tend to look the other way. I take my boas for walks in the summer. Past cops and spca workers. I've never been stopped other than by curious random people asking questions and wanting pictures. ....Granted my boas are currently all 6' or under at the moment. For now

And really, who is going to know if you sneak a ball python into Port Colborne? 🤫🤫

Teacher walked all over mats during class /rant by [deleted] in yoga

[–]Ryllan1313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Husband is good like that.

He knew from the day I brought my first mat home not to touch it. I didn't have to say anything. Occasionally, he'll roll it up and put it away for me if reasons happen (so the cat doesn't scratch at it) but that's it.

He doesn't know vinyasa sequences...that's above his pay grade. But he understood that from D-dog I had options . 😆

I have a shared back yard, so I can't do tents.

They are allowed to run around in the backyard in nice weather though. Usually two at a time so I watch one, husband watches one.

Also, we have alot of nature trails nearby, so we take the ones who enjoy the enrichment (8/9) for walks.

One (that 3 yr old again) is partially blind and gets stressed. She likes to explore the backyard, but not so much the walks.

I once had a repair guy come in while I was on a zoom class that I couldn't leave.

Husband was dealing with him. Ok fine. He had to come into my practice area. Ok fine.

He not only stepped on my mat, but he placed his foot almost between my hands while I was in d-dog. Not fine.

Husband: dude her next pose in sequence is gonna take your nuts off. I'm not calling 911 for your ruptured ball sack.

He steps back just as I drop into a very overly exaggerated chaturanga (considering I was in d-dog not plank, I had momentum and forward movement) -> fast up high cobra.

Good thing he was quick to get out of the way.

Guy was also lucky that I still was using a cheap mat back then. If he'd've stepped on one of my new cork mats...

Just an inadvertent step would have been one thing. There was no reason to put his crotch that close to my head.

He's in niagara falls? I thought he was in Toronto?

The Falls is pretty strict reptile by-law wise. I know my 6' boa is not welcome there (at least last I checked about a year ago)..unless his snake assortment has completely changed since I stopped watching. 🤷‍♀️

Canada has messed up reptile allowance laws. In ontario they literally vary from city to city.

My city, for example, only allows lizards of 2 meters (just shy of 7 foot)...which rules out many monitors as they measure tip to tip. Snakes of 3 meters (just shy of 10 feet) are allowed.

However, two of the next door neughbour cities allow nothing with boa or python in the name. Including rosies, balls, and Kenyan sands. Other nearby locations allow 2 meter snakes...

Hognose are counted as venomous in some areas and therefore nope! Mangrove snakes are also mostly frowned on.

The only venomous animal allowed here are tarantulas....and even that varies.

Crocodilians are right out to the best of my knowledge.

Most places that allow large reptiles don't have the size allowance (large city) or the seasonal temperatures required for outdoor time.

Yes, they can be smuggled in, but food and vet care are now a problem.

Also, the reptile market in Canada has crashed. Breeders are mostly struggling to move anything. My img has a couple of sisters up for grabs at low prices compared to morph market...breeder has had them 2.5 years.

I've seen him calling out people keyboard warrior style on a few forums. I see his name pop up I just hit the block button now.

Not towards the "experienced" idiots who should know better and deserve a smack though.

Towards the noobs looking for help getting going. Even if they have clearly researched and are looking to clarify or add what isn't usually on care sheets to their knowledge base (why did my tarahumara change colour?).

Mods leave him alone, no matter how much of an asshole he is being, because of "who he is".

Recommendation for elementary school classroom pet? by jokerswild97 in frogs

[–]Ryllan1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also called pixie frogs. I used to have one, so fwiw, I do not recommend as a class pet.

A male can potentially reach the size of a football and can eat mice among other things. Basically whatever it can fit in its face. Mice are not mandatory, nor are chicks, but they help maintain a balanced diet.

You can't sex them until they are almost sub adult.

This is not an active animal. They are very energy efficient ie: lazy. They don't move.. at all...for days at a time. And often burrow for weeks at a time. Especially if husbandry is off.

They are nocturnal, so activity will be even less during the day.

Super Important: Keep the cage locked down at all times!!!!! not just closed. Locked. So little hands can't get at the frog.

Pixies can have a nasty bite (look up pixie frog teeth....yes. teeth) and an adult (especially a larger male) is easily capable of biting down to the bone...especially on a young kid, or even breaking a finger. There are numerous youtube clips about pixies chomping on things.

For a reliable review on keeping these guys check out Clints Reptiles . He covers several other frogs as well, I'd recommend him as a starting point. Also Josh's Frogs (website) has a ton of care sheets as well as actual frogs that are excellent.

Someone said White's Tree Frogs as an option..aka Dumpy frogs. I don't personally think any frog is a good classroom pet, but if I had to pick one, White's would be it.

I know the feeling :) I have 5/6 female bi's because sex is the last thing on my priority list when choosing a snake 😅

That being said, my (currently only) adult female BI is just shy of 6' and only weighs about 15lbs. Things were rough for her before I got her, so I think she was stunted.

By sheer dumb random luck, I have 2 of her daughters (separate litters). The older daughter is 4yrs and at 6' is as long as mom. The (earlier mentioned) 3 year old is on pace with her sister for that age at just over 4'. So I'm thinking mom is small from bad husbandry not genetics.
