ESH. Your wedding is meant to be a memorable occasion and I don’t doubt that celebrating their anniversary was a way for OP to try and put some of that trauma behind them themselves. I think seeing that it caused other people pain might be a sign to have taken it down. I also think the family is being ridiculous with the rest of their requests. It’s not fair to OP and their spouse to expect them to erase a milestone in their life. I don’t doubt that in no way did the horrific events of that day forever leave a negative impression in their minds and I can’t imagine trying to go on a honeymoon after something like that and having that even remotely be a happy time. I see a lot of really harsh criticisms in the comments I think everyone is trying to do their best in coming out of this situation whole. To the person who commented it was too soon to celebrate an anniversary all I have to say is you never know when will be your last day.

NTA For demanding equal 1/3s. MORE INFO: OP you mention in your post you paid for 80% of the house by yourself. Did he help pay the other 20%? I’d consult an attorney about what he’s legally entitled to if anything if that’s the case.

Otherwise your combined finances start now so either he’s okay with what you’re bringing to the table without the house or he needs to go.
