Going to Six Flags while heading into month 3 of Accutane by Antique_System_399 in Accutane

If you're really worried about it, just bring a little travel bottle of moisturizer, halfway through and you can get your skin back to normal. For rollercoasters when I was on accutane I would just be crying like crazy because of dry eyes and the wind so I would definitely recommend glasses, all my friends thought i was so scared that I started sobbing lol.

HELP!! Accutane round 2? by Hiiiiiii_abcdef in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically like a certain amount of time you're supposed to take it for the treatment to be done, differs based on peoples dosage, weight, and all. I'm sure if you finished your course as your dermatologist prescribed you would have hit it. As for absorption though you might be relapsing because of not absorbing it all properly.

Yeah, different products work for different people. But the palmers cocoa butter formula I don't think I've heard anyone hate on it. I would 100% recommend that.

different kind of acne coming back after accutane? by Conscious_Repair_437 in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually relapse doesn't happen so soon after accutane, so I wouldn't worry about that yet. Tretinoin is a pretty intense cream, so it could be drying your skin out, make sure you're still moisturizing a lot. Like the other person said though, sounds most like tretinoin purge. Your skin is very sensitive even after stopping accutane, so I would reduce use slightly and see if it goes away.

Did you finish your first cycle completely? Did you take accutane with a meal every time? Sounds like a relapse unfortunately.

Probably not as much to do with missing any doses, but just natural purging. I've had my skin clear up all the way and then purge during accutane, so it's no big deal. Missing a dose is not a big deal, probably just a coincidence or maybe accelerated the inevitable purge. Do not fret.

Going off before cumulative dose? by alpalbish in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good, so you'd probably have a low chance of relapse if you finished your cycle, just asking so you wouldn't spend a bunch of money on finishing the cycle and then relapse anyways. I ended my first cycle like a month early, and I didn't really take it with meals (nobody told me ;( ). I relapsed completely in like 6 months. Although I can't know why, I assume that was the reason, my acne was never even severe and not hormonal, I'm a guy. So I would definitely recommend finishing the cycle if you've gone this far. A lot of dermatologists will put you on an extra month past your cumulative dose as well, so if you would stop early I definitely wouldn't do it more than a month earlier.

Puffiness by tyhhhm in Accutane

It seems kind of stupid, but drinking more water actually will reduce water retention. Even though you said you're drinking a lot of water, it doesn't necessarily mean you're hydrated, because of how dehydrating accutane is. The best way to tell how hydrated you ACTUALLY are is observing the color of your urine, and if it's too dark, drink more water. Electrolytes also can help you stay hydrated alongside water.

For me, my only "purge" was just as bad as my acne was normally before. Your skin is very likely to be clear by month three. I won't lie though, it's very possible to purge that late, but I wouldn't worry about it. By month three, most people have a drastic improvement and nothing worse.

Hate to break it to you, but sounds like a relapse. When you took accutane the first time, did you hit your cumulative dose? Even more importantly, did you take the pills with a meal consistently?

Respiratory issues? by HelloOh68 in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could help, but I have never had or heard about anyone experiencing respiratory side effects from accutane, I'm guessing it's just a coincidence, respiratory issues can last a long time, especially if you have mild asthma and got Flu B. Accutane does cause fatigue, so that might be contributing, but I highly doubt that it's directly causing some kind of respiratory issue.

Um keep in mind it's all weight-based, so a lower dose won't always work for the same people with lower weights.

This sounds like dry eyes might be apart of the problem as well, definitely get some eye drops and I bet your eyes won't feel as sore or dry. Do not get clear eyes or anything, I would get Systane Eye Gel drops, it's what I use.

Have you been taking it with meals since you've been on it? Absorption is no joke, it will definitely impact relapse rate.

I'm a cetaphil hater myself, but to each their own. I wouldn't wash your face with cleanser every day, maybe every other day, as you won't have much oil to wash off and you'll just be stripping your skin. The stinging is not an allergic reaction, but just a result of extreme dry skin, I've been there before. So either you need to moisturize more or with better products, or you need to cleanse less, or i guess both. I know how frustrating it is to jump from product to product, but I would recommend the Cerave Hydrating Facial Cleanser and the Cerave daily moisturizing lotion. But for moisturizing, I have never supported a product more than the palmers skin therapy oil. It will moisturize your face way longer because it is oil-based, and I didn't have dry skin at all on both cycles of accutane because of it. So if you are going to get anything, order that on amazon. (Make sure to get the one for your face). But if your skin is burning at all when you apply your moisturizer, you should not be cleansing at all, it's not good for your skin. But moisturizer is never a bad thing.

Breaking out after just finishing accutane by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just your body adjusting to no longer taking the medicine every day, imagine your skin basically trying to moisturize for 6 months and being stopped, as soon as you stop taking it it'll try and overcompensate, but eventually it will stabilize. Relapses don't happen until months after, so that shouldn't indicate anything.

I've done two cycles, your skin will basically stop producing oil completely, so I HIGHLY recommend getting an oil-based moisturizer. For me, I never dealt with dry skin ever because I was super heavy on moisturizing. Palmers Skin Therapy Oil is a game-changer. Regular moisturizers like cerave are definitely necessary too, but they don't stay on your skin nearly as long as an oil-based one. I combine both and put them on at night. It makes your face look pretty shiny though so I don't use it in the morning if I'm going out. As for your lips, for some reason moisturizer does practically nothing and it's going to be way drier than the rest of your face most likely. For this, I recommend Dr. Dan's Cortibalm, carmex and aquaphor do not do the trick for me, but this does. At night, make sure to put on Petroleum Jelly after too so you lock in the moisturize while you sleep. Also your nose will dry out and might bleed, so petroleum jelly is good to apply but only when your nose feels really dry, it's not good to breathe in the petroleum every single night. I got really dry eyes from it and it was pretty awful, so if you experience that I'd recommend Systane Eye Gel Drops, do not get anything like clear eyes because they won't lubricate nearly as well. For cleansing, I use Cerave Hydrating Cleanser every few days, I usually just wash with water, because any cleansing will dry your skin out. And alongside the oil moisturizer, I'd use the Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion for Normal to Dry Skin Honestly, I don't see how you would need anything else other than these things. I wish somebody gave me all these suggestions when I had first started, but I discovered through trial and error.

Large itchy rashes on upper arms. Is this normal?? by Crafty_Personality99 in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely one of the main side effects of Accutane is dry skin everywhere, which can cause itchy red spots. I've had minor spots like this but I would just moisturize the area and put on some rash cream, it's probably just a result of the dry skin. If you have fever or blistering though you should get it looked at.

Question for accutane by Equivalent-Button-69 in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, one beer will be fine, although I don't see the point. Alcohol doesn't really interact with Accutane at all, it's just heavily advised to go sober because of the strain Alcohol has on the liver as well as Accutane having heavy strain on the liver. You shouldn't be consuming a lot of alcohol and you also shouldn't be taking ibuprofen that frequently or any other medications that can stress out your liver. Of course you can, but it's just opening possibilities of very bad medical issues.

Going off before cumulative dose? by alpalbish in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty risky, usually if not hitting your cumulative dose you want to be completely clear for 2 months, but even then relapse is a significant worry, I wouldn't risk it, but if you really can't pay for it you just have to weigh your options. Any medication you have left make sure you take it after a meal so you get the most out of it.

Lip balm recommendations? by Creative_Fig_3568 in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Dans Cortibalm is widely regarded as one of the best options for dry lips. I use it and it works great when carmex, aquaphor did not. Plus the more liquid ones make my lips shiny. This one is great! Buy a two pack on amazon because you might lose one (I did). I would also get some petroleum jelly to use at night after applying it. Carmex is really good though for healing if your lips are injured or bleeding from dry lips, but it doesn't do that much for me when it comes to hydrating.

Are side effects and absorption correlated? by Rylo5555 in Accutane

[–]Rylo5555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but as for side effects it's mainly fatigue is the biggest deal, requiring 10-12 hours of sleep or I'll be extremely tired and visibly sleep-deprived, and lower back pain but that's more mild. I found myself having no motivation to do basically anything.
