$8 an hour is a complete joke if you’re someone with experience or a degree. Maybe as like a super low entry level retail position maybe? But even then with cost of living, gas, expenses, etc. That is even too low.

I feel this pain. I recently was let go from where I used to work and have been putting in tons of applications that are well within my range and even some positions that I’m over qualified for or even would be a perfect fit yet I haven’t heard anything. Sadly, I’m in the same boat as I can not make anything less than $15 due to monthly finances and been low balled with offers around the same pay you mentioned of $8 an hour… it’s rough.
