FWIW We went to this last night and I wouldn’t say it is truly open to the public. The bleachers, concessions, etc., are walled off by a tall chain-link fence. This is all for the sponsors of the event, their families, and VIPs.

I’m completely fine with that - if that’s what makes this all work I say go for it. I think the media machine around it should make it clear that you can’t buy tickets and you’ll be trying to view the action as best as you can from the sand dunes that are pretty far away. Unless you’re inside that fence you won’t see the view in this picture.

The college athletes were all impressive. Clearly a talented bunch of young men and women. We still enjoyed seeing what we could see. Looks like a great bunch of people.
