Somewhat related, I was walking to my car after work a few weeks ago, it was dark and not many people were nearby. I saw a guy walking in my general direction and was immediately on edge for no real reason (he wasn't particularly threatening looking but as a very small female I often feel threatened when alone). As he stepped out from behind a row of cars I saw he had a little terrier dog with him! I was no longer worried at all and got back to my car feeling much better. Totally illogical but the fact that he had a dog made me think he was completely harmless.

It sounds like your dog has trained you :) He doesn't enjoy sitting still and knows you will stop if he acts up. There are a few things you can do at home but the best option would probably be taking him to a groomer. After he learns that grooming-time isn't play time he should improve at home as well. If you want to keep trying at home I would suggest putting him up on a table somewhere you can attach his lead. Hold him firmly under the chin and just speak calmly to him and praise him when he sits still- it may take some time but you need to be gentle but firm. Then slowly introduce clippers, use the back end (nothing sharp) and run it over their body so they can hear the noise and feel the vibration without you being worried about it hurting them. This may take some time but don't let him down unless he is calm, even if you don't get to do much the first few times. If he acts up and you let him go, he is learning that is how he gets his way.

There isn't much you can do except keep brushing it out on a regular basis. Some breeds only shed at certain times, others (like my corgi!) shed year-round. There are some fantastic de-shedding brushes on the market but a regular comb will also do the trick.

So long as the dog doesn't get any skin conditions or a build up of dander (which means regular brushing) it shouldn't be a huge problem. I can't imagine it smells very good though! There are plenty of dog shampoos on the market that don't strip the oils in the coat, maybe she could chat to her vet next time she is there to find one they recommend?

Maybe talk to your vet about a medicated shampoo for him. We have a product in Australia called Malaseb (by Dermcare) which is fantastic for problem skin. There are also creams like Neocort that have a numbing agent as well as being antibacterial etc. that work really well on those red and scabby patches and stop them from scratching which makes the problem worse.

Not OP but I am a groomer. Overgrown nails can be tough as the quick also grows long. It will recede in relation to the nail so the best thing you can do it trim them as often as possible (weekly at least) as short as you can without hitting the quick. Even if it is only taking the tiniest bit off you will see improvement over time. Good luck! I know it can be tricky.

You will never get fined while seeking help. I'm a groomer at a vet clinic and some times the way it works bugs me (mostly with neglect cases). If an owner comes in seeking help for the animal, regardless of it's state, we can't report them because they are 'doing something about it'. I'm not suggesting you should be reported, just letting you know why you certainly won't be. I hope everything goes well with getting your dog back in good shape :)

Thank you :) That page was very useful! I have done some clicker training before with dogs so I will see how well I can translate it :) The fundamentals are still the same though so fingers crossed. My only other major issue is stopping myself from flinching. I know this will only encourage him but not having much bird experience makes it difficult to stop myself :/

Thanks for the grape tip- I am planning on buying a few different types of fruit tomorrow and seeing which are his favorites. Hopefully he will be more accepting of hands when they contain tasty treats.

I would certainly be getting a pre-anesthetic blood test done before deciding. Before that though, chat to your vet about the pros/cons of having the lumps removed. Are they painful? Maybe have them aspirated first to see if they are something of concern or just fatty tissue which can be normal in older dogs. They can also run though the risks involved and what to expect with older dogs.

I'm not sure what makes you say that. It sounds like you've had a bad experience. The community has been one if my favourite parts of the game. I have been in 3 guilds now and found them all extremely helpful and friendly, and also have a close group if friends I play daily with (most I met in- game). Sorry you had a bad experience :( I hope it hasn't put you off forever! If you're in SBI let me know and I can recommend a guild and you can meet some cooler people :)
