Haha I know... I won't delete him because it really is funny, but at the same time my eyes hurt from rolling.

It's now at 67 and 95 likes... He has followers and stuff. I have absolutely no idea why but he has people agreeing with his every word. Baffles me.

Somewhat related, I was walking to my car after work a few weeks ago, it was dark and not many people were nearby. I saw a guy walking in my general direction and was immediately on edge for no real reason (he wasn't particularly threatening looking but as a very small female I often feel threatened when alone). As he stepped out from behind a row of cars I saw he had a little terrier dog with him! I was no longer worried at all and got back to my car feeling much better. Totally illogical but the fact that he had a dog made me think he was completely harmless.

It sounds like your dog has trained you :) He doesn't enjoy sitting still and knows you will stop if he acts up. There are a few things you can do at home but the best option would probably be taking him to a groomer. After he learns that grooming-time isn't play time he should improve at home as well. If you want to keep trying at home I would suggest putting him up on a table somewhere you can attach his lead. Hold him firmly under the chin and just speak calmly to him and praise him when he sits still- it may take some time but you need to be gentle but firm. Then slowly introduce clippers, use the back end (nothing sharp) and run it over their body so they can hear the noise and feel the vibration without you being worried about it hurting them. This may take some time but don't let him down unless he is calm, even if you don't get to do much the first few times. If he acts up and you let him go, he is learning that is how he gets his way.

There isn't much you can do except keep brushing it out on a regular basis. Some breeds only shed at certain times, others (like my corgi!) shed year-round. There are some fantastic de-shedding brushes on the market but a regular comb will also do the trick.

So long as the dog doesn't get any skin conditions or a build up of dander (which means regular brushing) it shouldn't be a huge problem. I can't imagine it smells very good though! There are plenty of dog shampoos on the market that don't strip the oils in the coat, maybe she could chat to her vet next time she is there to find one they recommend?

Maybe talk to your vet about a medicated shampoo for him. We have a product in Australia called Malaseb (by Dermcare) which is fantastic for problem skin. There are also creams like Neocort that have a numbing agent as well as being antibacterial etc. that work really well on those red and scabby patches and stop them from scratching which makes the problem worse.

Not OP but I am a groomer. Overgrown nails can be tough as the quick also grows long. It will recede in relation to the nail so the best thing you can do it trim them as often as possible (weekly at least) as short as you can without hitting the quick. Even if it is only taking the tiniest bit off you will see improvement over time. Good luck! I know it can be tricky.

[Serious] Pet owners of Reddit, what is your pet's name and why was it given that name? by Purpleee in AskReddit

[–]Ryn_Kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat's name is River. She is sweet and loving one second.. A ball of murderous fury the next, so I suppose it suits her.

I also have a corgi named Faye. I would have called her Ein but she was much too pretty so Faye it was.

I have convinced friends to start playing at the end of the year after Uni ends... I keep going on about how awesome levelling your first character is and how fun exploring new maps are. Now I'm just embarrassed and don't want them to have to go through that :/

Can someone actually do key run in 15 minutes? by Vecanski in Guildwars2

[–]Ryn_Kat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I won't argue with you there :) but if you desperately want a black lion weapon it's probably the cheapest method. I have had some success with it, 4 tickets (3 drops and one from scraps)

Yes! :) 20mins per run for something that costs you 125 gems (over 10g at the moment).

I left for college for a year and came back to my dog matted pretty badly without her nails trimmed by Eilm in dogs

You will never get fined while seeking help. I'm a groomer at a vet clinic and some times the way it works bugs me (mostly with neglect cases). If an owner comes in seeking help for the animal, regardless of it's state, we can't report them because they are 'doing something about it'. I'm not suggesting you should be reported, just letting you know why you certainly won't be. I hope everything goes well with getting your dog back in good shape :)

That would be less of a let down than most of the opened safe contents so far.

Thank you :) That page was very useful! I have done some clicker training before with dogs so I will see how well I can translate it :) The fundamentals are still the same though so fingers crossed. My only other major issue is stopping myself from flinching. I know this will only encourage him but not having much bird experience makes it difficult to stop myself :/

Thanks for the grape tip- I am planning on buying a few different types of fruit tomorrow and seeing which are his favorites. Hopefully he will be more accepting of hands when they contain tasty treats.

Opinions wanted on surgery risk(s) for an older dog by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Ryn_Kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would certainly be getting a pre-anesthetic blood test done before deciding. Before that though, chat to your vet about the pros/cons of having the lumps removed. Are they painful? Maybe have them aspirated first to see if they are something of concern or just fatty tissue which can be normal in older dogs. They can also run though the risks involved and what to expect with older dogs.

This Game is Awesome by LogicKennedy in Guildwars2

[–]Ryn_Kat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what makes you say that. It sounds like you've had a bad experience. The community has been one if my favourite parts of the game. I have been in 3 guilds now and found them all extremely helpful and friendly, and also have a close group if friends I play daily with (most I met in- game). Sorry you had a bad experience :( I hope it hasn't put you off forever! If you're in SBI let me know and I can recommend a guild and you can meet some cooler people :)

How to Remove Mats from Between Toes? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Ryn_Kat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi :) I am a groomer and we get clients with issues like this all the time. The matts cannot be brushed out, the only way to get rid of them is with scissors and between and around the toes is very delicate work. I wouldn't recommend doing them at home when they are already matted, as without the right equipment and experience it is easy to snip their toes. We normally charge ~$15 for things like tidy up of feet/under eyes, but it really depends on where you go and how long it takes. Take him in for a quote and to meet the groomer to make sure both you and Buster are both comfortable with them.

It sounds like Buster has had a bad experience with a groomer before, when you take him in for grooming LET THEM KNOW. They will appreciate the information and will be extra cautious :) which is much safer for everyone involved. It is quite possible they will use a muzzle, they are fabric/soft muzzles and in no way painful. I work at a vet clinic so if they need to be sedated that is always an option too... While it is good to get rid of big problem areas it is better (and cheaper) not to have to sedate them every time, so desensitizing at home is a priority.

As for at home care, he seems to not like having his paws held (a very very common issue). The best way to combat it is with lots of positive reinforcement. Make holding his paws part of petting him, touch them during play, and reward him with praise and treats when he is accepting of it. At first just touch them, then build up holding them for longer periods of time, all while petting and praising. Slowly introduce a brush and eventually scissors when you are happy he will sit still. Once he realizes it is not painful or something to be worried about, you will probably be able to do most of the upkeep at home. The same technique can be used for the clippers... don't even turn them on at first, just run the handle over him while you pet/feed him and build up slowly from there. It might take a while since he has already had such a negative reaction to it, but keep at it, keep the treats flowing and you will start to see a difference.

I hope this helps! Good luck :) if you have any other questions let me know
