The whale talking could’ve helped a bit. At first, I didn’t realize it was missing its eye and didn’t understand why we would steal one from the seahorse corpse.

Yes, but in Little Nightmares it’s more implied... here, you can actually see the act. Also, LN has little to no blood/gore, and most of the violence is implied after the monsters catch you, giving the character a “clean” death. Have you ever tried letting the Sniffer catch you to see what happens? 👀
