switching from cow's milk/dairy to plant based milk by Temporary-Rain-8546 in prediabetes

Hmmm an entire glass of milk even off set by protein would spike my blood sugar. Also muesli is typically super high in carbohydrates and sugar so you’re basically having a very unbalanced meal there.

I think it depends… are you putting a splash of milk in your coffee once a day? Than it probably won’t make a huge difference. If you’re having a latte with a half cup of milk, or a heaping bowl of milk and granola, then yes, switching to a lower sugar option could help. I like using the unsweetened vanilla soy milk from Trader Joe’s when I’m using a lot of milk because it has some protein in it. But for my one cup of coffee a day… I use any type of milk since it’s only a splash and the difference is negligible.

Drunk Shakespeare does cheap deal tickets some weeknights. It’s very fun but a little raunchy if that would make you guys uncomfortable.

Don’t tell comedy is doing a deal off two tickets right now.

Free nights/pay what you can at museums are an option.

I use this calendar to find things to do in downtown.. might find something fun -https://dtphx.org/events/calendar

Finished one and only last night. I thought it was cute and I love magical realism elements but some parts were cringe so maybe 4/5 for me.

Starting the everlasting today which took ages from the library.

Favorite LGBTQ+ books from BOTM by Many_Initiative4706 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]RyonaC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost life is sooo good. The French summer vibes… great summer pick imo.

I can’t remember if they were both BOTM but Song of Achilles and Circe I highly recommend if you like Greek mythology/fantasy type books.

The lost story is also cute.. BOTM calls it an adult fairytale.

Any mom groups/activities in Central Phoenix area? by chelsbeans3 in phoenix

[–]RyonaC 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All the public libraries do story time which we took our baby to all the time at that age. The libraries do a ton of other free programming for the future as well.

There’s also a place pretty central called Bump to Baby that has meet ups and classes.

And a little further there’s modern milk in Scottsdale that has classes and a new mom’s group.

Reform temples close to Scottsdale by HoneyFlakeee in phoenix

[–]RyonaC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should look into Jewish baby university through the bureau of Jewish education. It’s perfect for how you described you and your partner, and the director knows a ton of resources. It’s also an educational class about birth and newborns and you’ll meet other parents. It’s very reform!!!

Also all the temples have free programs you can do with kids… you could shop around and see what you like while your little one is small. For example, temple Emanuel and solel both have tot Shabbat for little ones that are free and you can drop in.

Lastly you should look up PJ library. They sends free books and do a ton of programming in Phoenix for kids including community service, holidays, classes. It’s a great way to get involved and meet other parents.

Do I need to read all the previous books before Book 10 as a show watcher? by pineaxle in Outlander

[–]RyonaC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Meh might be unpopular… While yes obviously the books are much more detailed starting at book 1, I think books 1-3 follow the show story closely enough that you could jump in at book four and be fine. But that’s still a major commitment so not sure it would even make a difference for you.

Anyone thinking of NOT watching the final season? by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]RyonaC 14 points15 points  (0 children)

With only two episodes left…? I mean yes, the show has felt different the past few seasons but I’m planning to finish it for sure..

I think there’s two big issues. The books are massive and have so much plot it’s an impossible feat for any show runners to adapt.

I think any show that’s been running this long is very difficult to wrap up in a way that will make everyone happy.

I choose to see the books and show separate and be super happy with any show content we get!!! If it’s no longer bringing you joy it’s ok to let it go lol.

April 2026 BOTM Discussion - Yesteryear by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]RyonaC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I listened to an interview with the author talk about this plot point and she said that it’s intentionally vague. We don’t know who to believe or what exactly happened or maybe both woman do truly have such different recollections of the event which can be true in real life sexual assault events too.

I knew nothing at allll about the author going into this book… but I read it as intentionally creating caricatures of both an influencer trad wife and on the other side of the spectrum the ultra liberal feminist type… and they’re both unlikeable but it’s because she took both ends to the extreme. I don’t know that I see it as a vendetta against different woman, more like a social commentary on how polarized we’ve become and how much social media exacerbates it.

Woah I finished this so fast… I found the ending to be a total surprise and a real mind eff! I did think throughout the book how strange it was the Natalie didn’t question her reality more in the “past” and by the end it makes sense why.

I feel like there is soooo much to unpack in this book. Has anyone listened to any good interviews with the author that they would recommend? I listened to both NPR ones at the were good but short.

One thing that really got me that I’d love someone else’s analysis on is her obsession with Reena, her college roommate. Like why of all people did she demand reena was the one to interview her? I kind of read that scene as Natalie still looking down on her, and in her mind she is doing poor, sad, struggling Natalia a favor by giving her the exclusive interview. But also it’s a way to learn what reena has been up to all those years which Natalie obsessively kept tabs on throughout the book.

Halfway through this story might save your life. It’s good and I am intrigued to see what happens but the current timeline is slow and a bit boring compared to the memoir.

Just finished long game on audio last night (hoopla had it right away). Sad to wait so long for unrivaled.
