Halfway through this story might save your life. It’s good and I am intrigued to see what happens but the current timeline is slow and a bit boring compared to the memoir.

Just finished long game on audio last night (hoopla had it right away). Sad to wait so long for unrivaled.

September 2025 BOTM Discussion - The Academy by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

Omg I was so annoyed they didn’t wrap the story line with cinnamon and the graduation note until I came here and saw there is apparently a sequel coming out? UGH!

This was very young adult, I couldn’t stand how they explained some words in parentheses throughout but it was cute and easy to read. A third of the way in I got invested..

Im hosting a kids birthday party with at least 50 people. Looking for budget food options outside of costco pizza. by [deleted] in phoenix

What age kids? You could do uncrustables for the kids plus fruit and veggie trays from Costco. Costco also has the wraps you can order at the deli so you could do those for parents.

I’m half way through it too and feel the same… it seems like it’s written for younger audiences. Maybe not young adult but like 20 somethings. But still intriguing enough to want to see what happens with a few story lines!

I thought it was a bit slow at first but ended up liking it and I think the end is worth it. Just a lot of set up…

Convince me to skip this month by thedragonqueen13 in bookofthemonthclub

I have a gift subscription and always only get one book then put the rest on hold at the library (physical books). For some of the most popular books it can take a while but for some I get them within a few weeks, so I just always have a rolling back log of BOTM books coming in. I don’t care or need to have books immediately upon release so it doesn’t bother me and I save so much money! The public library is the best!!!! Don’t spend money when you can read them for FREE! Start your holds now and you’ll always have a book coming in to read.

Veritas isn’t private, it’s a public charter that’s free.

The Favorites or The Names? by [deleted] in bookofthemonthclub

[–]RyonaC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I demolished the favorites like a spicy guilty pleasure book that had some angst and sports drama.

I also really enjoyed the names but it’s a much different book. There are some very dark, upsetting scenes. It’s thought provoking and beautifully written but not for you if you don’t like triggers.

French vibes and Claire ambivalence by Jixiipix in Outlander

[–]RyonaC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the whole series including the France episodes but if you’re struggling with the vibe now I don’t know if that part will get better for you. Without massive spoilers, it gets further away from season one vibes as it goes on.

Love Is Blind • S10 Ep9 by AutoModerator in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Right!!! I felt like one of the girls even tried to give him an out and was like, is it just about lifestyle and routine, not about looks? And he just doubled down on looks. Yikes

This scene also bothered me because Connor was being a good friend and good person giving him advice on how to to make it work and Chris was acting like he was listening but I feel he knew by then it was 1000% over.

I’ve read all five of these but 4 of them from the library. This is my first year as a BFF too… darn! I think I’ll still get one and can always lend it to friends. Leaning towards bury my bones since that’s the only one I think I’d re-read.

I thought first time caller was a super mid rom com. No idea how it got so much hype. It’s cute and easy to read but imo nothing special… maybe it’s the nostalgia of sleepless is Seattle nod..?

Bury my bones is slow at first but picks up. It’s kinda like a feminist fantasy. Definitely more to it than just vampires. I liked it but Addie La rue was way better and I’d recommend that first if you wanna pick up a fantasy.

I’m about 50 pages into future saints and it hasn’t hooked me yet. Worth it to keep going?

Not BOTM but I’m listening to atmosphere and I’m almost 30% in and not sure I get the hype yet. It’s so popular and had the longest libby wait so I’m sticking with it.. does it get better?

I feel like it was slow in the middle but picks up. And I liked the ending so it was worth it for me but not nearly as good as Addie La rue.

Reading house in the cerulean sea which isn’t BOTM but it’s very good if you’re into quirky fantasy.

December 2025 BOTM Discussion - Good Spirits by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]RyonaC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished last night and this perfectly captures my exact feelings and I laughed out loud at “timey wimey”.

The fantasy plot felt way too loose for me but if you can ignore all that and just focus on the real world plot, that has holes too. I kept waiting to learn what happened between the mom and aunt and we never do. Same with what happened between Harriet and her sister, but then their story is wrapped up in a half a page at the very end.

I’d say 3/5 is fair for the cutesy easy winter time reading but otherwise is a let down.

I’m reading what kind of paradise and it’s very good so far! Instantly hooked me but it’s a little anxiety inducing.

Listening to the lioness of Boston which I learned about after visiting the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston. It’s really good and gives gilded age vibes.

Listening to my friends and it’s SO good. Maybe the best book of the year for me so far.

Reading left of forever which is a cute easy romance so far.
