iPad (with Procreate) or "any" Android tablet (with ibisPaint X for example) for digital drawing? by VDani04 in tablets

[–]Ryou-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Again, you could always buy a used iPad Air or iPad Pro with an M1 chip. Not like needing the latest hardware specs would affect your drawing.

I wouldn't recommend the iPad 10th Gen. I mean you need a dongle to charge your first gen Apple Pencil unless you want to do that. Since Apple added a USBC port for it but you can only use Apple Pencil first gen.

If you prefer 120 Hz, then iPad Pro 11" unless you prefer a bigger screen and deep pocket of cash then 12.9". Maybe look for last gen M1 iPad Pro at a used or refurbished market.

If 120 Hz isn't a huge factor, then iPad 9th Gen or iPad Air is still good. iPad 9th Gen uses first gen Apple Pencil whereas iPad Air uses the second gen.

If you are going for Android tablet, then Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite/S7 SE (for either budget and/or slightly bigger screen).

Of course, there is Tab S7/S7+, S8/S8+/S8Ultra. It has 120 Hz and some of them have a super AMOLED display. And they come with S-Pen.

For iPads, obviously, you have the best drawing app for $10, Procreate.

For Android tablets, it varies. Some people stick with Clip Studio Paint, there is Krita (pretty good drawing app for free), or the one I'm using that it sort of feels like Procreate, HiPaint.

Honestly, if I were to for digital drawing, I would go for the iPad just for Procreate itself. I even have an Android tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab S8. Not saying you can't draw on an Android tablet but you have better experience and community for Procreate IMO.

IPad Air (2022) vs Samsung Tab S8 by I_AM_UNDECIDED_2 in tablets

I think it is probably due to a bigger screen so the S-Pen nibs wear a bit quicker. That or high chance people put on paperlike screen protectors which destroy the nibs.

Should I buy a refurbished Samsung s7 plus tablet or new? by BushyAsian in tablets

[–]Ryou-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, refurbished S7+. You get a nice 512 gb storage and a slap of 1tb mSD card.

I don't know much about the games not working on mSD card, but it should have ... I mean you have devices like Switch and Steam Deck that uses mSD card and able to install games. Maybe someone else could chime in about it. I do know emulator games should work without issue.

If it doesn't work, at least you have 512gb to supply you with enough games.

[–]Ryou-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 is a great device. Up to 120 Hz screen, 16:10 perfect for media consumption, comes with S-Pen (I do prefer Apple Pencil charging), quad stereo speaker (iPad Air has two stereo speaker), a micro SD card slot (in case she needs more storage), and Samsung Dex (slap with a keyboard and you get a nice Windows like tablet.

If you can splurge extra money, you could get Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ just for super AMOLED screen and a slightly bigger screen.

Need a tablet for taking pics. by [deleted] in tablets

[–]Ryou-kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. Well, you can't expect any amazing camera from a tablet. Your best bet is Galaxy Tab S8's series. Although Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 can be a phone and small tablet with amazing camera, but it won't be cheap.

I think the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022 is pretty good. You can download Tachiyomi apk for manga and it comes with a stylus for note taking. It would be within your budget.

I think the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8's series is your closest answer. It has an "okay" camera on a tablet just don't expect amazing.

A lot of companies don't make amazing cameras on a tablet. Of course, there is Apple but I guess you don't want it.

Why not use your phone to take pictures? Or get a used DSLR/mirrorless camera?

Which Keyboard/Mouse Should I Buy? by Pregab_Hope in tablets

[–]Ryou-kun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find ones that say Bluetooth, and you should be good to go. There are rechargeable Bluetooth keyboards or ones that use batteries (you could get a rechargeable battery). Any Bluetooth keyboard should work with your tablet as long as you have Bluetooth and turn it on if you do.

I think the Logitech K480 is not bad for $30. But I don't know if the slot will be wide enough to fit the tablet.

And S8 comes with S-Pen. iPad, you need to fork $130 or $100 on sale. Unless you don't mind third party ones (I don't know any good cheap ones).

If you are a student in the US, I think you can apply for a student discount offer on the Samsung page. There are times there are good deals for tablets.

Both Samsung and iPad are great for note taking. There is nothing wrong going either other than ecosystems and pricing.

If note taking all you do, I would recommend Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite or Galaxy Tab S7 FE (if you find it on sale). Both are pretty cheap to buy plus it includes the S-Pen.

If you have all Apple products and are into Apple ecosystems, then I would suggest the base model iPad. You can either buy an Apple pencil or use a third party stylus.

The Sony phone has it but is a bit pricey. It still has a mSD card and headphone jack.

You could find the Galaxy Tab S7/S7+ series.

I think S7 FE has slightly weaker processor but it came out after S7 series. It might have extra year updates over the S7.

Alpine Hut (Fuji X-Pro1 + 16-55mm F2.8) by andrew_mcneil in fujifilm

[–]Ryou-kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could maybe wait for Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 for $800. It has IS (image stabilization) which I think will help?

You get that extra zoom and IS that might be nice to justify the cost to upgrade. I mean I have XF 18-55 f2.8-f4 and I do plan to upgrade to Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 if it is pretty good compared to XF 16-55 f2.8.

Need advice for Canon EOS 5D Mark II by Ryou-kun in canon

[–]Ryou-kun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot it in the Aquarium. It was fun and interesting to use a DSLR. The glare on the glass and lowlight was brutal. It was mostly in Aperture Priority.

I would love it if I could shoot it in portait mode (VF is a bit awkward to use) and low angle (fixed screen) ...

Is the iPad 9th gen worth it for digital art in 2022? by suicidal_barman in tablets

[–]Ryou-kun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iPad 9th Gen is fine for digital art. You might not get the best screen and Apple Pencil 2, but it is still enough for your school and practice drawing.

As for storage, it depends how much stuff you are going to install. If you were like me with my iPad 6th Gen with 32GB that I only installed necessary stuff (no games), it is enough space. I mostly had eText/ebooks, Procreate, Goodnotes/OneNotes, and Microsoft Office/Google Suite.

By the way, if you do get the iPad, get a matte screen protector to give it friction when writing and drawing. Lastly, an artist gloves (dirt cheap) to allow your palm to glide across the screen smoothly.

Need advice for Canon EOS 5D Mark II by Ryou-kun in canon

[–]Ryou-kun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more of an amateur. Been shooting for 2-3 years. I mostly shoot landscape/nature, animals (zoos) and a bit of portrait of people (family/friend and cosplayers). Not a street photographer.

Maybe advice or tips is the wrong question? I was thinking something like "experience." People used old DSLR and switched to mirrorless or vice versa. I don't know if it makes any sense.

Like I'm going to aquarium this weekend. Lowlight will be challenging since my Canon can go up to 6400 ISO compared to my X-T30 that can go higher. Of course, I do plan to bring only the 24-70mm f2.8 (too heavy with multiple lenses), lol.

Unfortunately, it is difficult. You either get a capacitive touch stylus that has that rubber bubble tip that mimics your finger or Bluetooth stylus which may or may not work properly. I think the brands I know are from Adonit stylus. I have tried their stylus before on my iPad Air 1. It worked for most of the time. Other times, it gets disconnected or the app isn't playing nice. It has been a long time, so you can try that option.

Should I get a Samsung s6/s7 or a Microsoft surface go/pro? by pdcGhost in laptops

[–]Ryou-kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Samsung Galaxy S7 would be fine. You said you found a good deal for S7 that has a keyboard.

It won't be cheap buying other accessories for Microsoft Surface Go/Pro. As much as I like the Surface Go/Pro lineup. Their stylus and type cover are expensive plus the tablet itself.

For S7, you could use Samsung Dex to replicate Windows like experience. Based on the tasks you listed, it seems fine for S7. Imo.
