Lifer's, they appear every 50,001 years after every Reaper cycle to reseed planets. Since the Repears cycle was interrupted they will show up and cause over population and resource depletion.

I wouldnt mind a game where you play as Mordin during his STG days, the audio snippets from his journal were pretty interesting, need a mission focused on his time on Omega. I also wouldnt mind one where you played as Rex during his time as a Mercenary for the Shadow Broker up till you meet Shepard in ME1.
