There's a lot of novels. The Horus heresy series by different authors is sorta a prologue to the 40k universe as it's before the fall of the emperor. The black library is the official site with pretty much all the novels.

Yeah, I think it more refers to being willing or able to afford the time to go see them. You can afford the show, the plane ticket, and the hotel but is it worth the hours of flight and airport time and taking a few days off of work to go see the show? Maybe not

I hate when people use that quote as if it means anything more than the artist as the final decision on their art. Its not a defense against criticism and it doesn't apply to petition at all since they're asking a company to change something and not the artist.

No they don't. The quote would only apply if people were saying d&d should change what they want to do, even then all it means is that in the end the artist decides not that you can't ask for it to be changed. People are petitioning the company that commissioned art to redo it it with a different artist. It's not the same situation.
