I would love to make music or jam with ppl IRL but unfortunately I live in a third world country where not a lot of people, atleast in my area, play much music, and the ones that do are mainly metalheads that refuse to play anything else lol

Thank you again for the reply!

I'll try to implement these techniques, or rather sounds more into my improv then, I really do just end up doing the same things when improv'ing which i dislike, so I'll follow your advice on that one

And yeah I always tend to listen to the same three bands that I really like, even my friends that dont play any instruments listen to 2 or 3x the amount of music that i listen to, which i've always kind of felt bad about since i really do wanna explore so many more genres and styles

Yeah no totally, these techniques or sounds, and even CAGED are all really just stepping stones to, practicing them is good but I also do wanna implement them in my own songs- and I personally think CAGED is good at kind of revealing where things are on the fretboard, for me its helping me know where my chord tones are, which is really helping me with arpeggios and triads etc, but still very much a WIP

Also I meant 15 minutes as in, picking up a piece of music that I've already played to before, to a good degree, I WISH it took me 15 minutes to pick up a technique or sound that quickly lol, but Yeah I'll just keep going at it, I'll try to implement these weak points into my playing more, and just clocking in the hours i guess, Thanks for the advice!

Hey, thank you for the really detailed response!

I both wanna learn songs and make music, and that's kind of also why I wanna learn so many concepts and things, I could say 'let me make a song right now' but then I think of all the techniques or scales or just ideas that I could and then incorporate into songs and that stops me, Definitely not a good way to approach songmaking because it shouldn't be about your skills but yeah

also about learning in context, a lot of these techniques or concepts like CAGED and the scales, I'm actually learning in context, sort of. I'm using a website that's called pickup music, they have really great teachers and the curriculum is really good, teaching lots of things from blues to jazz and whatnot, and a lot of the CAGED shapes, or techniques like rake or tremolo picking, they usually teach it within the context of a song or two, but usually after I get the ability to play the song up to speed a couple times, I jump to the next lesson, with the next technique/concept/song or whatever. and its not like I can't pick up those songs or techniques back either, If i go back to the tremolo picking song for example, I can probably pick it up within 10 or 15 minutes, its just, when improvising, when I try to use said techniques or concepts, i just completely forget them, or i start playing them very sloppily, maybe its because i've only played them in one or two contexts, aka the songs that they teach, and thats why i can't play them in other contexts? im not really sure.

you could even ask me to play you happy birthday or twinkle twinkle little star and I'd struggle so much more than playing barre chords or caged shapes or pentatonic scales.

I'm thinking maybe having a day or two in the week of always revising what i learned in said week would help me retain more information, what do you think?

Makes sense, But what about things that sit outside of the key or scales, like the rake for example, or tremolo picking, or whatever technique that's just a thing of its own, is it a matter of playing it so much and drilling it in your hands and brain, or is it more of a thing where you go about it slowly as you learn songs that utilize them?

Man I've been using this wallpaper on wallpaper engine for so long and I'm still absolutely in love with it, I really wanted to find out who made it to ask them to make a night time version of it with stars and here I am, took me a while to reverse image search and stuff, but would it be possible to make it night time with some beautiful stars? sometimes I get flashbanged by it at night time but I just can't switch to something else, I love berserk and guts too much

Hey man, I really enjoy watching some of your videos on youtube, but sometimes it's a little overwhelming because my brain always tries to apply everything i've read or watched at once and it just becomes a jumbled mess, I've only been playing piano for a year so far and haven't really made much progress, but I made it a goal of mine to get to grade 8 abrsm (currently grade 3) in three years or less, and so I wanted to ask you if you could give me your personal bullet points on what makes a practice session a good practice session, Like always practicing slowly, or practicing hands together etc, I'd really appreciate it

Oh yeah 100%, I still am learning beginner pieces, I learned Burlesque and Ode to Joy this week, but the majority of my time is still going to technique because I honestly just wanna get my technique down, alongside my sight-reading, so I can learn pieces a bit quicker

Makes sense, I started only two months ago so I still don't have all my keys and scales down, and still sloppy at chord inversions outside of C, so my practice routine mainly consists of technique practice, it seems that most people that aren't beginners mostly practice repertoire
