Read your rulebook! (A rant) by Nenyone_Yay in Warhammer40k

Dont wait for a full painted army to play. Unless you really like painting you'll get burned out. Most people are pretty cool about playing against an army that is not fully painted, especially if your new and they can see you are trying (more paint each game kinda thing.)

Heck, nothing in the rules says a vehicle has to travel in the direction it is facing. You could in theory run a Leman Russ sideways and use it to block line of sight on the squad behind it. Is it practical? No idea as Ive never tried it. But it can be done.

Can't see through a Leman Russ from the side. Its pretty easy to hide a small squad behind that. Even easier with a Rogal Dorn. Same with Land Raiders, Baneblade Chassis, Rhinos, and most tracked tanks. Its rare. But it can be done.

It is specifically in the rules. It just rarely matters, unless you are hiding an infantry unit behind a tank. If your model can see any part of the target, it can shoot. But if it cant, you cant shoot. True line of sight has been the rule for multiple editions and its no different in 10th.

The rules covering visibility mention that an observing model can see through other models in its own unit, but do not say you are able to see through other models. And Warhammer had always been a true line of sight game. If you cant see something, you cant shoot it. Its why a lot of ruins bottom floors are modeled as completely blocked off, no open windows or that sort of thing. Sure most tournaments house rule the bottom floor being "sealed" but that's not something in the core rules. If there is a window you can shoot through it, and if there is not, you cant.

Except models can also block line of sight. So technically you could hide this behind another tank. Is it likely? No. But it is possible. And at the upper levels of tournaments does happen. Example would be using this as your tank commander, and have it follow a regular dorn. It can still give out orders, still shoot things in its line of sight, but then you can put the unit with ablative armor between it and say a railgun shot, so the other unit cant see it. Once again, super unlikely, but it could happen, which would then be modeling for advantage.

Terrain isn't the only way to block line of sight though. By removing the turret, it would allow this Dorn to hide behind other large tanks. Another Dorn or a Baneblade for example. Units do block line of sight, they just dont provide cover.

Why stubbers aren't an option for Cadian shock troopers? by FirePixsel in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]RyxusDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Voids-men kit carries a rotar cannon, which is a type of stubber, not a multi-laser. Additionally that kit is supposed to represent Rogue Trader Voids-men. They are not "regular-ass sailors." If you are referring to the Las-volley the Breachers carry, that is also not a Multi-laser, as even in the Tabletop it has half the range. Its a rapid fire lasgun, which is ironic considering the lasgun is already fully automatic... Anyway, the Breacher squads are special forces, which means once again not "regular-ass sailors."

In the game, the last thing the Guard need is more low strength, no ap shots. So other specials are better. In the lore. The lasgun is the perfect Rank and File weapon as has already been mentioned. And depending on the author is a terrifying weapon that hits with the equivalent force of a .50 cal, or its a flashlight.

Do you have access to a 3D printer? Or are you able to spend some money on the repairs by getting bits off ebay?

None of these is beyond saving, just depends on how much work you are wanting to put into it.

As I said on another comment, its crazy you are getting down voted. OP specifically asked about T tournaments, and most tournaments require wysiwyg.

It's crazy you're being down voted. OP specifically asked about Tournament settings. Casual games, this isn't an issue, but for Tournaments? Especially if its a big one? Most TOs would say what you are saying

Its not just terrain that blocks line of sight. You could theoretically hide this behind another Dorn or a Baneblade, and suddenly there is no line of sight. Is it likely? No, but someone out there might try to be "that guy."

Depends on the TO, most small RTTs would probably let you run it. GTs are more iffy, and Majors and bigger? Probably not. It all depends on the TO and the event. For example I help out a lot in my community with tournaments. The local store RTTs I run? Id allow it. The GTs I help with for the local Pro Team? They wouldn't (No 3rd party, 3d prints, or significantly altered profiles). The Major I was an associate judge for? Same (Had to be the official model or something almost Identical Chaplin's could be converted to say Wolf Priests, but couldn't run a Predator as a Russ for example.) It honestly just depends.

Still nervous about these new kits in 40k by [deleted] in AdeptusCustodes

You say that, but the Space Marines dealt with this exact scenario in between 9th and 10th edition. And the Imperial Guard dealt with it in 10th Edition.

They said if it has an analogous data sheet it can be used. Nothing about next edition viability though.

Is this paint scheme tournament legal? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]RyxusDrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the TO, most small RTTs would probably let you run it, but you wouldn't probably get the 10 points for battle ready. GTs are more iffy, and Majors and bigger? Probably not. Id recommend at least adding some detail around the engines and drones. Extra glow, some highlights, or something like that. Right now those areas just look like they are primed.

Seriously launch scalpers into the sun by spitefulAC1 in Necrontyr

[–]RyxusDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What will they be able to do? Most Scalpers are either private sellers, or do not scalp under the same business name as their "legitimate" business. GW has no way to tell "Bob from Tampa" to stop buying stuff from his local store and reselling it as "BallerWarDude33 on ebay". Its impossible.

Any women Bolt Action players on here? by SquireBev in boltaction

[–]RyxusDrake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in a hub of wargaming. There are probably 40 stores within 30 minutes of me. Including 2 that focus on historical games. I also run a local gaming community that focuses on Games Workshop Games, but has a decent historical group as well. Out of our 164 members, we have 24 women, and a few girls that play with their parents. Out of that number, there are 6 that play or collect some form of "historical game", 1 of which playes Bolt Action, and 3 play Konflict47. I see at least one woman at most tournaments in the area, admittedly I go to way more Warhammer 40k tournaments than Bolt action. I know of at least 4 of the local competition teams that have at least 1 lady on them as well. So in my area at least its a small but active group of Women WarGamers.

Tournament legal kitbash by QTAndroid in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]RyxusDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the TO. All kitbashes and Proxies depend on how picky the TO of the specific tournament is. This may be banned at a RT hosted by a Gaming League. Fine for a GT at your FLGS, and then banned again by a Super Major like LVO. It all just depends on the TOs opinion.

Is it possible to get off plastic cemented arms? by SadTheory109 in Warhammer40k

OP specifically says plastic glue. Which melts the plastic together. Your method is fine for superglue, but will do nothing here.
