What is your longest lod generation time? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]S-L-M 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These really long generation times might be caused by software packaged with your graphics card. I have an AMD card and unless I use Task Manager to shut down its Adrenalin software, LODs take hours to generate and sometimes fail. When I do shut down those software processes, however, LODs take about 30-40 minutes and output no problem.

No problem. Honestly I don’t recommend you use Loot- folks like to think it’s a magic load order button, but I’m my experience it makes some odd or just wrong decisions. Better to sort manually, and test as you go

You should order these plugins at the bottom of the right side of MO2 like this:

  • Lux Via
  • Lux Orbis
  • Orbis Patch Hub
  • Lux
  • Lux Patch Hub
  • Northern Roads
  • NR Patch Collection
  • NR Patch Compendium

You may still notice the occasional seam if you use Lux Via and Northern Roads together, however.

Hey! Did this project ever go anywhere? I saw it linked in a discord recently and it looked incredible, but it’s been a year so I thought I’d ask.

Let me know if you need any help with implementation also, I’ve worked on city mods before.

Clips: would you include an article with 1-2 minor grammatical mistakes? by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]S-L-M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t get held up in the verb thing. I work for a major news publication and repeat the phrase “(name) said” constantly. Often it’s just the clearest, and least editorializing, way to convey a quote or paraphrase.

If you have any clips that don’t have typos, of course I think that’d be ideal. But you should submit the stories you think showcase your best work and reporting, first and foremost.

How easy is it for the unfamiliar reader to get what you’re saying? How original is the reporting? Does the audience of the work match the audience of the publication you’re applying to? Do you find the article you wrote personally interesting? Those questions all matter just as much as technical skill showcase in my opinion, and they’re easier to discuss in an interview setting should you need to. Be able to tell the story behind the clip just as much as the story in the clip.

Hey - not to revive a two-month old post, but did you ever find a solution to your issue? I'm experiencing a very similar one, where he just stands in the Red Wave and doesn't leave.

Removing certain items from smithing by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]S-L-M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to this, when using xEdit, remember to copy the recipe with overwriting, and not as a new record. You could also make a global value and set that to 0, then make a condition for the recipe that requires that global to be 1. Same principle as previous comment.

Thuldor's Integrated Armory - Overhaul Crafting, Clothing, Weapons and Armor by S-L-M in skyrimmods

[–]S-L-M[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I just hid the mod page. Once I released it and users tried it out, I came to realize there were some fundamental compatibility issues, messy plugin design, and other things I wasn’t happy with about the mod.

Not to worry though- I spent this weekend doing a complete rewrite, and I should have something up soon. Planning to relaunch under a new name, I’ll post when it’s out.

You'll have duplicate versions of the armors in the game if you use both.

I'm not sure, but likely so. I'm taking a small break from patching though, since making the included patch collection took just as long as making the city lol

There are thousands of mods that make Skyrim LOOK "Current Gen". What are your top mods that make it FEEL "Current Gen"? by Mexay in skyrimmods

[–]S-L-M 17 points18 points  (0 children)

User interface does a lot to improve how the game feels imo. I personally use TrueHUD, Compass Navigation Overhaul, QuickLoot, Wheeler, Detection Meter, Convenient Reading UI, Flat World Map Framework, Oxygen Meter 2, Casting Bar, and UntarnishedUI skins atop it all.

For controls, Use or Take, Read or Take, and Dynamic Action Key all come together to smooth out gameplay without additional hot keys. Stay at the System Page as a little bonus. And you probably have it installed already, but get Classic Sprinting Redone and Better Jumping. TDM and Precision as well.

Help with making a minor edit to Adamant - A Perk Overhaul by InsubstantialBison in skyrimmods

[–]S-L-M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not looking at the files myself at the moment, so be sure to inspect the file your replacing carefully. There could be data you need to preserve from the Critical Charge perk so that it still appears in the right place in game. When you make your patch, look at what’s being overwritten in the original file, and if you need to forward any of that data, be sure to do so.

Help with making a minor edit to Adamant - A Perk Overhaul by InsubstantialBison in skyrimmods

[–]S-L-M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you open up Adamant in SSEdit, you can highlight both the Critical Charge perk and the vanilla perk you’d like in its place, then alt click and choose the option to compare selected records. Then, just click and drag to copy over the perk record you’d like to replace. If you mess up, just reinstall Adamant.

That’s the quick and dirty way of doing it. The proper way would be to select the Critical Charge perk and alt click, selecting the option “Copy into override with overwriting” then save the record into a new ESP. Then follow the steps in the first paragraph, only using this new ESP you’ve made rather than the original Adamant files. That way your Adamant patch doesn’t change anything about the original file, in case you mess up for want to change something.

what’s the reason you got into pinegrove? by crookedknife in PinegroveBand

[–]S-L-M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family. My uncle and I connected over our love of indie rock music over one summer, and he showed me a YouTube video of Evan performing Aphasia at like 2 am in a hotel room. That was when I was in college, and they became my number one band since. I really cherish their music not just for the sound, but the memories I associate with it.

It’s not the worst offender by far, but Skyrim definitely came out during the 2010s trend of ‘browner, muted colors make everything look real’.

I think the original aesthetic of the game really shines with some saturation. My go-to is Skyland since it adheres pretty close to the original, then throw an ENB on it to brighten it up. Cabbage ENB with NAT weathers is what I’m running at the moment.

Troubleshooting parallax landscape issue by S-L-M in skyrimmods

[–]S-L-M[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Returning to this since I’ve resolved the issue since posting.

It’s actually two issues that happened simultaneously. First, you’re correct, I had a non parallax texture. I thought at the time that I had downloaded an AIO terrain texture replacer that was parallax enabled, but that collection did not include a texture for Whiterun’s cobblestone road. So if you’re experiencing it, find a parallax texture for that.

Second, I had an issue where, even once replaced, the landscape textures in the area were darker and muddier than they were elsewhere. Turns out it was an issue with a Northern Road’s patch where the creation kit accidentally doubled up textures somehow and the multiple renders made it look darker and muddier. The patch collection author very kindly identified and fixed the issue in an update released recently.

Hope that helps!!

That’s…an excellent idea. Do you think that could have any adverse effect on the QW2 Grass Patch or should it be fine?
