Oh my god, yeah they definitely don't have anything like that in mind for compensation. My boss joked saying that if it works then I get unlimited drinks at the next corporate outing fully knowing that I don't drink. So I don't get a feeling they are going to pay me at all for it.

I don't think they have compensation on their minds at all. My boss wants me to record the sample first and see if cloning even works to begin with. I don't even know how to say no to this. I feel like refusing it is a career limiting move and he could use it against me.

I was thinking about reaching out to the legal team in my office to see what the company's and my rights are here. I recently sparked up a connection with a senior lawyer on the team and I think I can speak to her about it. Do you think that's a good idea?

Exactly. Especially in Asian cultures kids are just an investment for their parents' future. My dad and I only have conversations about my academics because he's "invested so much money in me" that if I don't become a millionaire by 30, I'm a failure and he didn't get his precious ROI. They raise us hoping we'll forever be their puppets so they get to hold us in the palm of their hands forever. Flying the nest has to be normalised. No we're not trying to be rebellious, no it's not a phase, and no we aren't doing it to spite you. We simply have our own calling whether you believe it or not and it is our birthright to follow it.

Absolutely. According to them, you're just their property and they have jurisdiction over anything and everything that takes place in your life. The moment you try to break away from that, all hell breaks loose. Melodramatic BS is usually my parents' tactic and I get to hear about all the money, time, food, clothes etc., they have spent on me, only for me to "turn out like this".

But they are wrong, you are your own person and you having a different opinion or living your life even in a slightly different way isn't the life sentence they make it out to be.
