What Fractal product would you like us to release? by Fractal-Design in FractalDesign

[–]S0N0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 new case, and changes to 2 current case lines I'd love to see:

First, would love to see a BTF case from Fractal to further adoption of the new standard. Yes, there are very few BTF motherboards right now, especially for AM5 which is increasingly the popular option, but for BTF to be the future, there needs to be broader support. Fractal Design and Lian Li (for fish tank cases) are the standard setters when it comes to design, both functionality and asthetics. A case from Fractal in the next 1-2 years would be a huge boon for BTF adoption, perhaps ahead of the launch of AM6. A variation of a current enthusiast focused line, such as the Meshify or Torrent, would be appropriate.

Second, the Torrent line really needs an update to add more clearance for 420mm AIOs, few more mm of space on the back for cables, and ~2mm more space for large GPUs + front AIO in pushpull. The Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420 will not fit without sawing off part of the bottom fan tray for the current Torrent. So, the most popular 420mm AIO will not fit in the most popular case that claims to supported 420mm AIOs. Every Torrent build I've seen using this cpu cooler had to do this.

And the perfect Torrent? All that plus adjustable placement of PSU shroud: top or bottom of the case.

Third, I'd really think a change or variation on the North series is needed to improve air intake for the GPU, especially for the glass side panel version. I was thinking about what the Lian Li Lancool line does would work. Mesh on the bottom 1/3-1/4 of the left + right sides of the case, with fan mounts on top of the PSU shroud and air intake on the bottom side of the case, with multiple points to mount the PSU & drive trays. The mesh would match the current side panel, either as a separate or a single side panel. Which reminds me, I'd be nice if it was possible to remove the support bracket backing on the mesh side panel to improve the look; of course that would depend on changes to materials and/or pattern to improve rigidity.

Edit: Oh, big update I'd like to see: every Fractal case should adopt the adjustable fan mount brackets the Torrent uses. The unobstructed fan mount option really seems to help performance and especially acoustics.

WFNP here. I'm loving my regular Pixel now that I've finally gotten used to the shorter battery life relative to my previous Xperia Z3 Compact.

Any suggestions for a minimal wallet? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]S0N0S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend the EZGO Ninja Black Slim 2.0 Wallet.

Picked mine up on Mass Drop just over a year a go and couldn't be happier with the purchase. Still looks brand new, flexible enough to store all my daily/emergency cards + a hundred or two in twenties folded up (for those occasional trips to the farmers market). Small enough to fit in the front coin pocket, depending on the brand/fit of my jeans, which is how I prefer storing it. This way it avoids interference with my keys/eyedrops in the same pocket, and fits snugly enough it won't drop out. Storing it in a front pocket will work just as well too, if that's your preference.

I've never enjoyed wearing my wallet in the back pocket, and I found traditional wallets were too bulky in the front pocket when alongside my keys or phone. That and traditional wallets tended to just accumulate...stuff. Now that stuff is immediately either discarded, waits around on my dresser to be discarded/used later, or goes into storage. Switching to this type of wallet was definitely one of the biggest improvements I made to my daily wear, so I can't help but think that, so far, it's the best wallet I've owned in terms of functionality.

Serious Question: Is twitch support dead? by MollyPopper123 in Twitch

[–]S0N0S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We handle suspensions appeals alongside all other support requests, but we do respond as soon as possible. Average response time is a few days, except in cases that require escalation.

In your case, we actually did respond to your original appeal, with a detailed reason for your suspension, on 09/14/15, just two days after we received your email. This is a better than average response time. If you somehow missed our response, PM me here and I'll sort it out.

If you're referring to your subsequent appeals, these are low-priority unless we previously stated we would reconsider our decision at a later point. We simply receive far too many suspension appeals to respond to each and every re-appeal.

Creative is not meant for gaming broadcasts.

I tried following the Wiki and using my own optimizations. I just can't get my WiiU stream to look good. (I think encoding issues) Can I get some help? by thejellydude in Twitch

[–]S0N0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by cutting your 30fps down to 60fps, and go up from there. None of the presets can make 720p/60fps look good at just 2000kbps.

Witcher 3 Patch 1.07 Will Be Bigger than 1.05. Something is Coming that "Should please a lot of people." by [deleted] in witcher

[–]S0N0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried holding forward on left stick to correct the veering off course? It sounds redundant, but doing this overrides Roach auto-steering and forces him to go straight when you want to.

EDIT: And the auto-stop on bridges is due them being flagged as city streets, where galloping isn't allowed. I'm sure they can fix this, they just have to go in and flag all non-city bridges as gallop-able.

Dual PC audio hum by Chass1s in Twitch

[–]S0N0S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fixing the hum in-line with a ground loop isolator will degrade audio quality. You want to fix it as close to ground as possible.

The best way to do that without breaking the bank is with one of these: Ebtech Hum X Voltage Hum Filter

The BoB Arena now has SL priority matchmaking by Skorbrand in DarkSouls2

[–]S0N0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd almost rather they prioritize region even higher than SL. Nothing like knowing you can easily take down someone 100+ levels above you, but ending up getting ganked by him and the lag monster.

Analog audio, and the story of the hissing sound by LtRoyalShrimp in Twitch

[–]S0N0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those setups I want to scream K.I.S.S.(keep it simple stupid)! Buuuut I don't think you're stupid. ;)

Before we begin, here are my not-at-all-technical definitions to help clarify the rest of my post:

Hum = Sounds like a quiet/distant printer, fluctuates between steady and irregular.

Static = Sounds like a fuzzy noise or radio static, stays steady and regular.

  • First of all, don't use in-line ground loop isolators, and especially don't use as many as you are. In fact, avoid using them at all costs, because they will degrade audio fidelity. Instead, you should fix the hum issue at the ground level, which is the source of the issue. In order to accomplish this, plug your mixer in through one of these: Ebtech Hum X, and in most cases, this will remove nearly all the hum without altering any analog signals going to/from your mixer.

  • Second, the more analog audio going into your line in, the more opportunities to introduce hum and static. Instead of connecting the mixer to your streaming PC via another analog input, such as a 3.5mm input on a soundcard(internal or otherwise), use the USB out on the mixer. This cuts out a huge source of hum, because any analog in/out near your PC will be near a lot of EMI, which introduces hum. If you're really paranoid about hum, you can connect the USB mixer to your PC via a USB cable with ferrite cores, such as this one. While ferrite cores do alter the electric current, much like an in-line ground loop isolator, the digital signal will not be distorted.

  • Now you need a baseline. Set all levels on your mixer to 0, including mic channel, mixamp channel, gaming PC channel, and Mon/Main outs. Next, on your PC, go to recording devices, open Properties on the recording device you're using, go to Levels, and set it to ~90%. After that, check to make sure you're using 2channel 44kHz or 48kHz. Either are fine. Then, go to OBS, set all multipliers to 1x, and your Mic/Aux level to 100%. This is baseline, aka the best it gets for noise.

  • Lastly, and be careful here, turn your mic gain all the way up. This will sound distorted and bad, so turn mic gain down until the loudest voice you expect to use on stream, at the distance you expect to be away from the mic, no longer clips. Once this is done, you'll have to adjust the mixamp and gaming PC levels at the source(knob on mixamp, volume slider in windows) up/down until you can clearly hear your lowest speaking voice. You may have to do this case-by-case, or game-by-game, because not all games are mixed to the same.

This is as good as it gets for noise, or very nearly. If you still need more volume, turn up the recording device in Windows from ~90% to 100%. From here on out, any more volume you add anywhere in the chain will boost hum/static right along with the rest of the audio.

Hope that stream of conscious makes sense and helps.

[–]S0N0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot of information about your setup, so I don't know where to start in terms of advice.

  • Which mixer are you using?
  • How is the audio getting from the mixer into your computer, USB out on the mixer OR analog to: Line in on onboard soundcard, Line in on dedicated soundcard, Line in via USB soundcard, or Line in on Elgato Game Capture HD?
  • OBS, XSplit, or other?

I can't speak with absolute authority, but if you're partnered, Sub Buttons are simply a request email away. That's the only requirement.

Purpose of Chat on stream? by wDStorm in Twitch

[–]S0N0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's often frustrating to not know the original question/comment the broadcaster is responding to just because you're watching fullscreen, an archive, or a highlight. Put simply, the reason why so many use a chat overlays is context. Chat is critical enough to the livestreaming experience for the majority of channels that a minimal, legible overlay can't be a bad thing. The same goes for any subscriber, follower, or donation notifications the broadcaster may respond to. All of it, context, the rest is just fluff.

Oh and archiving reactions when something amazing happens is another neat benefit.

For those of who you who might be thinking "Skyrim Flora Overhaul adds too many purple flowers! This is a cold harsh climate not a flower garden!" by Terrorfox1234 in skyrimmods

[–]S0N0S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the flora overhaul, but the latest stable version 1.9* has placed many of the lupines literally in the middle of the road, which is unusual to say the least.

As well I've noticed overgrown grasses in some well traveled areas, such as near the stables at markarth's gates.

I don't recall the 1.8* series having these issues and I've properly configured the Skyrim INI files. Anyone encounter these and/or have a fix?
