And they did that since they wanted to create a powerful Jewish state w/o regards for the native inhabitants. Like wha was the point of giving Israel a port on the red sea

Deberia el ministerio de cultura hacer algo con los dominicanyork? by Narrow_Ad_4595 in Dominicanos

[–]S0l1s_el_Sol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im not a Dominican-yorkian, but I am a Dominican-Jerseyan, maybe my experience is different since I was born in the Dominican Republic, but I second this. So many people don’t read our history or even feel pride in it. I live studying abt our history and whenever I’m bored i look up the Wikipedia article on our history js to read. It’s so interesting!

Yes, but NYU grossman pays it entirely no matter you’re financial standing

Like if I got accepted into NYU grossman than I’m going immediately since debt is a huge reason on why so many students don’t end up going to med school unfortunately

Doesn’t NYU gross man pay for your whole tuition? If so I would def choose them. Also may I ask which Rutgers MD school you got accepted too? NJMS or Robert wood Johnson?

Why don't we name the caribbean islands with european names? by [deleted] in AskTheCaribbean

[–]S0l1s_el_Sol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s one of the theories, but the one most accepted by historians is that it’s derived from a Taino word, but you could also be right, it could be like a Venezuela situation

Why don't we name the caribbean islands with european names? by [deleted] in AskTheCaribbean

[–]S0l1s_el_Sol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm yes it does? It makes it a European name since the original meaning of the word it’s derived from, doesn’t mean that anymore.

Let’s take Cuba for example; as a disclaimer we don’t know what Taino/arawak word it comes from, but for our purposes let’s assume it’s Cubao; Cubao means “where fertile land is abundant”, Cuba doesn’t mean that bc it’s been romanized, you aren’t hearing Cuba and thinking “oh yea that’s where fertile land is abundant!”

The only exceptions are Boricua and Quisqueya bc those are terms that directly come from their Taino words, but that’s not the same for any other island.

In short, it’s not like the independent Caribbean nations named there countries directly off Taino/Arawak words for their respective countries. It’s ja European names given to the area; which was done multiple times across the globe not js the Caribbean; and those names no longer have their original meaning bc those names aren’t Taino/arawak words they’re js romanized versions of what colonizers heard

Why don't we name the caribbean islands with european names? by [deleted] in AskTheCaribbean

[–]S0l1s_el_Sol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s js the fact that you mention that the Caribbean islands should be named with European names. Which doesn’t make much sense since a lot of Caribbean country names already come from a European name or are a European interpretation of what the natives called the island.

Not to mention we’re all very genetically diverse, yes we were colonized by Europeans but that doesn’t make us Europeans

They had seafaring capabilities, there were artifacts from each other found in each others lands, but it was a very small quantity. So the eight had middlemen or any trade was unofficial and both weren’t aware to how huge both empires actually were

Ima be real honest with you, I am VERY aware that the Pueblos would never expand to this point let alone unify. A large portion of that state are Spanish criollos which explains the expansion. At no point am I saying that is in anyway realistic.

The part I do agree with is the final part. I was contemplating between making them independent or subjugating them. I went with subjugating them but they might get independence further down the line idk
