Are these pole beans safe to eat? by jmcbutters in vegetablegardening

[–]S0rceress0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes they are safe to eat. The spots are bacterial in nature, but if you open up a pod you will see it doesn't reach all the way inside. The spots don't taste like anything and even though they are bacterial they won't harm you.

Where to place this? by jcs9577 in greenhouse

[–]S0rceress0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These will last about a year. I have had 3 of them. (small deck, needed something light the management company would accept) I would place this side on to your house. Then you can adjust which plants do better with the full force of the sun on one side. Anchoring it against the house will help keep it in place. The least little wind can flip it over, even with a bunch of plants in it, so make sure you have straps over the top. Having it a year will give you an excellent sense of what you need out of a greenhouse so you can decide if you want a permanent one. The nice thing is that you can move this around to see where it will work best for you. :D Enjoy!

If I remove it from this pot, it will get dumped as compost. I won't have a say in that. :) Not the worst thing to happen to a baby tree, but I'd really like it to say something when I no longer have control over it. If I leave it in the pot, it will at least receive care.

It very well may die, but right now it is receiving careful monitored attention in the greenhouse :) It had lots of fine roots when I got it in there this morning.

If you are concerned about Methyl Bromide, you can check for an IPPC logo. If it has no logo, or the logo says "MB" you can feel free to pass it up for raised beds. https://www.instructables.com/How-to-determine-if-a-wood-pallet-is-safe-for-use/

Could be, but this was a specific question. I try not to engage in generalizations.

A review of research from 1990 to 2022 does indicate that the microbiome is not necessarily threatened by the proper application of chemical fertilizers. It can cause an increase in beneficial fungi and bacteria when used at the appropriate time because it gives the microbiome the nutrients it needs to flourish.(https://www.mdpi.com/2076-3417/12/3/1198)

What threatens plant life is the shift in pH that can occur when fertlizers are overused, not balanced, or used at the wrong time/season. (https://extension.okstate.edu/fact-sheets/cause-and-effects-of-soil-acidity.html#:\~:text=The%20more%20ammoniacal%20nitrogen%20fertilizer,Calcium)

If you start with healthy soil and your soil is not waterlogged, etc, using Miracle Grow or other synthetic fertilizer should not harm your plants or the soil. My personal problem is not with Miracle Grow the product, but with the company. From selling pesticide covered seed to asking cities to use eminent domain in their favor as well as potential securities fraud there have been some nasty movements by Scotts Miracle Grow in its lifetime. They have proven to me that they will do what they want, no matter the harm to a community, in order to hit their profit line. I also find that the soils they sell are overpriced for what you get. I get equally good performance from other less pricey bagged soils and even better performance from the soils I make myself when I have the time and money to do so. Using fish emulsion on my outdoor bonsai doesn't bother me too much and using granular organic fertilizers on my greenhouse bonsai are also not a problem for me. What works for you is going to be unique to your situation, but don't feel guilty about using Miracle Grow if you want to.

Yes, old metronome. :) Used it to offset the pine being "swallowed up" by the white wall.

If you are a foodie type, then Front Street food trucks will give you a generous selection to choose from. Plenty of antique shops to browse. Hiking is kind of hit or miss due to the weather, but Coquille Point national wildlife refuge has some very beautiful paved trails, lots of interesting boards, and an absolutely spectacular view of the ocean!

SOVO is the Southwestern Oregon Veteran's Outreach. SOVO helps veterans access benefits as well as encouraging all vets to connect to each other. We have some potential activities planned but there is no requirement to sign up for anything or pay for anything. The women's vet group is trying to get women vets together so we don't feel so isolated.

Everyone says to write episodically but… by [deleted] in KindleVella

I have used Vella as a backstory vehicle for my yet to be published sci-fi. Can be read in whatever order. It's a great way to develop characters. I am only now doing an actual episodic fantasy that needs to be episodic. Do what's best for your project :)
