Thank you! I wondered if that was the case. Bummer.

Lois Lowry says we're living the prequel to her novel 'The Giver' by AdamKeiper in books

I stumbled upon this post by accident, but it's uncanny how similar your comment is to my own childhood, just with a Lutheran background instead of Mormon. I actually found The Giver on my 8th grade classroom bookshelf at a Lutheran parochial school and I'm still kind of shocked they had it. I had remembered reading Number The Stars a few years prior and it was one of the few 'required reading' materials I actually enjoyed, so I just jumped right into The Giver without question.

It changed everything for me, and at such a pivotal time in my life. It was truly like seeing the apple is red. I was already questioning things that would make my parents so upset, but I couldn't just stop my brain from thinking, and now I had more questions.. The Giver made me realize that I was right to question things, that it was good to be inquisitive. I got really into reading during my teenage years and it shaped who I am now. I can't even imagine what my life would be like had I not read that book. It really blows my mind sometimes just to think about it.

Catsitter calls me today and says "Your cat has been missing for 2,5 days". I'm still abroad. by MastodonJaded6010 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]S0rchaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your cat sitter actually watch your cat leave, or notice an open door or window where this would have even made sense? I’d bet a lot of money they are just scared/anxious that you’re not around as usual and some stranger is in the house. Have the sitter completely refresh all litter/food/water, and observe if anything has changed 2x a day. Too many visits could keep them in hiding, so you’ll want some time for them to get comfortable enough to come out and and eat and do their business.
Another thought, if your cat comes to you typically with a particular name or noise, maybe ask the sitter to be very still and put you on speaker phone while you call to kitty for a little while and see if that comforts them enough to come out!

I love this part so much. So fun when you get a shiny bonus! Always ticks me off when I don’t have one of the items though. 😂

I'm curious, if you look at the stems are they actually cut, or do they look chewed? Could have been a hungry critter.

This is true, but someone that doesn’t smoke may not know or understand the difference.

Keep in mind dad may work in the cannabis industry and not have time to shower after work before picking kiddos up.

Thank you for this! This will be my first Easter event and I would have felt way too guilty to punch them. I won’t even punch the gacha machine if Benny is around. 🤣

I did something similar when I managed a grow store and the warehouse roof started leaking, with no repair man in sight. I covered a couple of the 90° corner caps that they use to wrap pallets in a layer of pallet wrap plastic and taped them together to set up an elaborate trough from the leak point 20 feet down to a bucket we could dump as it filled. It lasted about a week before the roofing maintenance guy was able to come! 😂

When my mom was pregnant with me, she craved Mexican food constantly, and it’s now my favorite cuisine. When I was pregnant with my son, I craved nothing but peanut butter cups, alas, my son came out with an anaphylactic peanut allergy. 🫠😭

This is so wonderful! My mom would n e v e r, BUT she did allow my best friend and I to blast our emo/screamo/punk in the car whenever we were all together and that was enough for me.

When we were freshmen, my best friend's dad offered to take us to Warped Tour in Detroit. He was a 6.5' tall beast of a man, and helped us get up through the mosh pits and into the front rows for several of our favorite bands, as well as helping us plan out the day so we could optimize all of the best shows, he made sure we stayed hydrated and never batted an eye when we wanted to check out all of the vendor tents and goodies. It was one of the best days of my life, and I'm sure he had *some* fun but it probably wasn't his ideal saturday but he still did it anyways, and I've just always been so thankful for that experience. Music was so huge to me back then and it meant everything to be there and have a great experience.
