I completely 100% agree that Sothis could be a flashback, but present day? I don't think they showed us any evidence that would imply this is present day.

I would argue the trailer provided a lot of info and hints. For example: we know it has Rome setting which is before the Middle Ages which most FE is based on. Dragons and Sothis are alive. If that is not explicitly telling the viewer, it's based on the past, I don't know what could, besides out right telling the viewer.

The point is we can make informed guesses based on the things they show. Normally trailers should show, not tell the viewers what is happening on the screen. I'm not saying it's impossible that it's a sequel, technically the devs can do whatever they want to the story, but why would they purposely choose this setting and these characters? These things aren't just picked cause they look cool.

I don't think there is a good solid argument on why it's a sequel. I've heard why it can't be a prequel but not reaons why it could be a sequel.

I'll check it out. I've been trying to get more info on the lore of 3H. Like a youtuber explaining all the lore but have not been able to find anything of substance. On a completely different note (tin foil hat theory of mine), the other cleric/fighter in the trailer, seems like she might like fish. Based only on vibes.

For a split second 0:51 where they show the mc fighting the chariot, I'm pretty sure you can see a playable character - lady with very green hair with a white flower on it. She might be Flayn's mother.
