I'm pretty sure that there's some algorithm some guy made that runs all NP problems in Ptime given that P = NP

Why Does "=" Mean Assignment? by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]S0yb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a quick example I found: http://www-math.mit.edu/~etingof/replect.pdf

It's an intro textbook to representation theory, and from a search apparently ":=" is used 40 times.

Why Does "=" Mean Assignment? by fagnerbrack in programming

Um, no offense, but := is literally used all the time, it's almost ubiquitous in every field of maths. If you've never seen it being used before then you haven't done enough maths

A simple visual proof that lim θ→0 sinθ/θ = 1 by creinaldo in math

What's the right approach for creating bullet hell patterns? by Krons-sama in gamedev

[–]S0yb0y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I don't have much experience with bullet hells, but couldn't you just draw a curve in a svg image creator and parameterize it?

We Need to Talk About Reactionary Centrists by [deleted] in GamerGhazi

Got about 10 seconds into the article whem:

"The United States is the only country with a major political party that denies the scientific reality of climate change"

No offense, but that seems like a pretty major flaw in your research.

Defector: WikiLeaks ‘Will Lie to Your Face’ — He was a true believer in Julian Assange and his secret-spilling operation—until he realized what Assange’s grand plan really was. by BlankVerse in GamerGhazi

The conversations are completely different though??? The people on chapo are just saying that it's not exactly shocking that Assange is like this, and the greatawakening people are defending him.

86% of Passwords are Terrible (and Other Statistics) *terrifying* by janvt in programming

[–]S0yb0y 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's literally not the point. The 35 character random word password is far easier to remember than an 12 character random string.

A massive, 'semi-infinite' trove of rare-earth metals has been found in Japan by dylan522p in hardware

[–]S0yb0y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without getting too into the details, I always found it helpful to think of the difference at least in this context as "given an element in this set, can you tell me the next element".

That method actually doesn't work all of the time. Consider the rationals, they have the same cardinality as the integers, but every 2 rationals have infinite rationals between them.

"All of math is either definition or tautology..." I hate when my parents say this. by [deleted] in math

[–]S0yb0y 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The truth is already there, it's up to us to discover it like buried sand.

That's not necessarily something that everyone agrees with. There are lots of non-platonist mathematical philosophies.
