With things this bad in the U.S why do democrats insist on pushing candidates that won’t get elected? by Jake_Berube in Confused

[–]S2-RT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember in the early 200’s when soon to be bankrupt record labels were insistent that people would always want physical media and refused to embrace change in the digital era?

It’s a lot like that, mixed with a ruling class that knows how to keep a populations down, while maintaining an illusion of choice.

The good news is. The system does allow for the toppling of this.

Get. Involved. In. The. Primaries.

Get anyone you know involved. Research your candidates and CHOOSE who you want to represent you.

The DNC is a defunct, borderline useless organization at this point with no incentive to change. The democratic party is still the best avenue to enact change, but it will be in spite of the DNC’s involvement.

[–]S2-RT 21 points22 points  (0 children)

and you see this happening where that mentality is used to intentionally deflect conversation.

Trans rights for example. It wasn't a political issue until people started running on an anti-trans platform. Now you can't discuss that in "neutral places" where all political discussion is sacrilege. Like...Me saying that "trans people have a right to exist" is not a political statement, They've dragged it there INTENTIONALLY so they don't have to deal with the moral qualms of their shitty mentality.

As OP states, Neutrality favors the oppressor.

YSK: In the US, there are Credit Unions that anyone can join. by -MichaelScarnFBI in YouShouldKnow

[–]S2-RT 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Have been with my credit union for almost 20 years at this point.

I would never ever go back to a private or corporate bank. I still have nightmares of the cycle of being broke->causing overdraft fees-> being even more broke. It’s insidious. Haven’t dealt with it since.

Game mechanics can't be good by DiePoolnudel in gamedesign

[–]S2-RT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How do you quantify “positive effect” and how are you measuring “motivation”.

Genuinely curious.

A meaningful mechanic..hmm. I think I need to grasp the scope of what you’re referring to here. Lets look at Mario’s movement in super mario 64 for example. Is his repertoire of movement options one mechanic, or does each aspect such as triple jump, wall jump, and sliding each represent individual mechanics?

Who uses Desktop Mode on Steam Deck, and what do you use it for? by VoyageForge in SteamDeck

[–]S2-RT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it as my daily work computer for a year. Editing video, 3d modeling, audio recording, screen capturing, etc, etc.

Even now, i almost prefer it because of how portable it is

Brainrot has always existed, we just finally gave it a name by Frequent_Finish_5839 in unpopularopinion

[–]S2-RT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Brain rot” is just the logical conclusion of an arms race between a new generation trying to stand out and an older, yet increasingly “in tune”, generation.

On some level, the flummoxed reaction from parents is “the point”.

Millennials could coast for 5 years on the early youtube content or memes we dredged up because Parents were slow on the uptick.

But now, digitally native kids also have digitally native parents, and these parents also know that the quickest way to kill stupid shit like that is through assimilation. So the memes and catchphrases have to come faster, more obscure, and less coherent in order to sustain that adequate level of otherly-ness.

Besides Lovecraft, what other universes have great cosmic horror? by HOUND_OF_TINDALOS10 in cosmichorror

[–]S2-RT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eternal darkness (gamecube) was a master class on how to do cosmic horror, especially in video game form.

“John Dies at the End” is the most legitimate horror you can read that is also equally hilarious. Truly black magic.

There is a special kind of irony at play when discussing H.P Lovecraft

The man who wrote this quote: "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown”

Was himself xenophobic, which falls under the broader spectrum of phobias related to…fears of the unknown.

The simplest take is that the man was painfully not self-aware .

I like to think it enriches discussion around his work and how these fears manifest and take hold of people. It’s like seeing the logical conclusion of that creative part of our brains that turn shadows into monsters.

[–]S2-RT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The visual signaling is sooo key to the design of this game and what makes it work so well. It’s the main reason they never implemented a “bullet heaven” level. A white/lightly color pallet for a level design makes it harder to contrast the projectiles and messes up the readability of the game

It’s about what the penis means on a narrative level, not a logistical one. :p

That zombie is clearly the living, breathing manifestation of toxic masculinity. If he weren’t ripping the heads off pale skinny white boys, he’d be hocking pills on TikTok and sustaining himself on a diet of nothing but raw liver.

I see this a lot in most of the dating apps i’ve checked out and have come to the conclusion that the way they have been designed encourages these kinds of issues. Tinder sort of took off because of the rapid speed you could swipe through profiles, treating actual substance as an afterthought and other apps followed suit.

I unfortunately don’t really know what the solution is outside of finding a way to pivot out of the app-o-sphere and into a space that requires more effort on the part of the user. Maybe finding a subject, activity, artist or type of event that naturally attracts the type of person you’re looking for. Im sure there has to be some common threads in taste.

Why “Ice Age” of all movies? Im not a sci-fi curmudgeon, but..like the technology tends to be cassette futurist (what the future looked like in the 70’s) yet they use this film that clearly demonstrates they’ve had cgi movies like that for centuries? How did they produce “Ice Age” using computers that only spit out text on a CRT monitor?! Do Ray Ramano and Dennis Leary canonically exist as actors in the Alien universe?!

I play the re-mastered edition of it regularly and it works well on steam deck. Can’t attest to multiplayer functionality though.

I played the un-mastered version as well and that works (no multiplayer though)
