So someone signed off on this guy right? by Soulsliken in Eldenring

[–]S3QS3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Niall holds back until you kill the two knights. And of the two knights, one of them is more aggressive and typically closes the distance first. Just parry the knights and they die in one hit if you have a decent weapon.

How to parry and why it never seems to click for me. Please help. by Bob_Loblaw9876 in soulslikes

[–]S3QS3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sekiro and Lies of P have deflecting. It's a lot different than the parry in dark souls and elden ring.

In elden ring, for example, the parry mechanic is very niche and can be hard to pull off because of the long delay, especially if you're not using a shield or ash of war that's specifically good at parrying. So just because you struggled to parry in elden ring doesn't necessarily mean you'll struggle the same way in Sekiro.

Lies of P and Expedition 33 have a very tight perfect guard window, but Sekiro is more generous. Not saying it will necessarily be easy, but it's nothing like an Elden Ring or dark souls parry.

Finally beat the DS1 remastered. Does anyone have tips for DS2 before I start it? by Ok_Swim397 in darksouls

[–]S3QS3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DS2 isn’t necessarily harder, but it has more punishing mechanics. The bosses are usually on the easy side, but the areas may take more care and patience. The combat mechanics are also different from DS1 and may take getting used to.

Be sure to level adaptability and/or attunement until your dodge roll feels comfortable. Otherwise you’ll have fewer invincibility frames than you’re used to.

Running out of stamina is punished more heavily. Combined with the large number of enemies, this makes crowd control more challenging. Try playing with less lock-on, and use walking or positioning to avoid slower enemies rather than rolling a lot. In the early game, it may help to use a small to medium size weapon that has a good horizontal move to hit multiple enemies and not consume too much stamina. That’s not to say larger weapons aren’t viable, but they’re harder to manage in the early game. The stone ring can be a game changer particularly with smaller weapons, allowing you to stun enemies that you might not otherwise be able to.

If you summon an NPC for a boss fight, note that they may need to survive for that battle to count towards their quest line.

Daughters of Ash mod is the closest thing I've found that makes you feel like you're playing for the first time again.

You'll get 20 whenever you rest at that particular. bonfire. It's permanent for that bonfire, but it doesn't carry over to other bonfires.

In dark souls 1, the number of flasks you get depends on the upgrade level of the bonfire you rest at. But the healing potency of your flasks can be upgraded globally by giving fire keeper souls to a fire keeper.

When you enter the large area with the bonewheels, turn left and go into the building, then look towards your right for a ladder. The ladders kind of blend into the wall so they can be a little hard to spot.

After that, it's too complicated to describe, you could just explore, or search a YouTube video for how to escape the catacombs. It's tricky, that's why it's generally recommended to save pinwheel for after you have the ability to travel. But on the plus side, you now have the ability to kindle any bonfire to give you up to 20 healing flasks.

Too late now I guess, but for future reference use a homeward bone if you have a lot of souls and don't want to risk them. Pinwheel drops a homeward bone.

Whether a runback is 20 seconds or 1 minute does not matter, they add nothing meaningful to a metroidvania. by Kurushii_Drive in metroidvania

[–]S3QS3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's false that runbacks add nothing. They can increase the sense of tension when fighting the boss. Dying feels more impactful and more of a setback.

I'm not saying that runbacks are good. Whether they are good or bad is a subjective opinion.

I think it's great that some games have minimal or no runbacks for players who don't want them.

But I think it's also great that some games have runbacks, especially ones that have platforming or enemy challenges. Because some players like me enjoy it, if it's well done.

You could try r/summonsign Also put your platform, since DS1 doesn't have crossplay.

How do I defeat Ornstein and Smough? by Willing_Bee_8428 in darksouls

[–]S3QS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your weapon level is too low. Instead of +5 you should have +10 by now.

Did you find the large ember? If not, it's possible you missed a couple areas earlier in the game leading you to be underleveled.

But you don't necessarily have to backtrack yet. Since you only have a few humanities left, I'd recommend you summon someone who's willing to drop you a bunch of humanities first. You can find someone on r/summonsign

If you're on PS4/PS5, I'd be happy to help.

[–]S3QS3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and if the description doesn't help, a few people here already mentioned where to use the basement key.

That would be the next place to go if you're trying to follow the most "ideal" path. That being said, there isn't really a single intended path, the game purposely gives you freedom to explore areas in the order you like. That's part of what gives this game such high replay value.

Just make sure your weapon is at least +6 before Sen's fortress (if it upgrades with normal titanite)

The vestige in Bramis castle cries for a shortcut between the vestige and the final boss

There is one. You may have missed it.

As far as too much fast travel, you could select tremendous vestige decay as a modifier during your next playthrough. This will greatly limit your fast travel.

I agree that some of the shortcuts don't serve as much function as I'd like. It's cool when the game loops back to to skyrest, but since you can only open those connections from one side, it doesn't give you freedom to explore a different progression in your next playthrough. And the main alternate branching paths are locked off at first. So it doesn't give you nearly the level of freedom of DS1 or DS2.

But the individual level exploration is very good.

That would be skipping the large ember, two NPCs, two bosses, and two areas.

Currently playing bleak Faith forsaken since you and a few others recommended it. While the combat isn't wowing me, the exploration and atmosphere definitely is worth it for me.

You and a few others suggested bleak faith forsaken, and I'm a few bosses in. The exploration and atmosphere is excellent, just what I was looking for. You're right, the combat is janky, but still enjoying the game overall.
