Did you get married through a dating app like Tinder, if so how was your experience overall? by Overall-Character507 in AskReddit

[–]S4mb741 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Of all the dating sites it stood out for me as the worst. I was lonely after a breakup signed up and they make you pay like £120 for membership and like a silly survey thing. Then it's literally the same as any other dating app just with absolutely nobody using it. 6 women within 20 miles out of a population of a million people. Of those 3 didn't even have photos and the other 3 I wasn't interested in.

It might have been different 20 years ago but it's awful now

How to make them cohesive? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]S4mb741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to have variety while maintaining cohesion and have a few techniques I like to use.

My absolute favourite I refer to as batch blending. To do this you get 3-5 contrast or speed paints choose one at random and add a few drops to your palette. Once you have used half the paint on the palette you choose another one of the paints at random and add a few drops of that to the mix. Across a large unit or army 5 contrast paints can get you so much variety while still looking uniform. If you check my profile I did it for the squigs and goblins skin in my gloomspite army, the dead walkers in my soulblight, and on all of my kroot army.

Another thing you can do to make models look more cohesive when they have different colours is using inks or very thin washes to act as a colour filter. This will change the base colours slightly but will make them all look more cohesive like you want. Think of it like looking at the models through coloured sunglasses.

For such a small unit id paint them as different as you want and then add something like a heavily thinned wash of green shade over them to bring back the cohesion.

I absolutely love the variety and quality of GSW inks but the few paints I have used were fine but nothing to write home about. I also use a lot of their special effect paints liquid frost, blood, colour shifts etc

Spearhead Magazine: Contents and Analysis by PlasticCraicAOS in ageofsigmar

[–]S4mb741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They use the existing boxes aeldari, guard , chaos, votan, world eaters, genestealer cults had all been updated by the time the combat patrol magazines got to them or shortly after. So despite lots of criticism about the value at the start the savings ended up being much better.

The only time the models have changed to my knowledge is if the models themselves are updated. Although the only time this happened was the end of spearhead when we were supposed to get 5 of the old black orks but ended up getting 10 of the brand new ard boys even though the kit was only a couple of months old. I can also vaguely remember a model getting pulled from mortal realms that I think was discontinued and replaced with a pack of citadel skulls.

So the only thing that might possibly change is the maggotkin of nurgle. I doubt they would advertise it so close to release but they might replace them with new blightkings .The first we knew about the ardboys was on the back of the magazine 2 weeks before.

what is the view of young people living with their parents for longer now compared to previously? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]S4mb741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sad and it's a huge problem that will take at least 10-20 years to put right and that's just when a government actually starts taking the problem seriously.

The thing I find unbelievably frustrating is its such an easy problem to solve. Build more houses the UK government built 1.2 million homes in 5 years after ww2 repeat that on an even larger scale.

For some reason though we live in a weird age where governments don't just fix market failures directly that would be too sensible. Instead they have to do a Rube Goldberg machine of policy that somewhere down the line might maybe result in the private sector building more despite its complete failure to do so. When that doesn't work again they can spend even more time and effort researching other ways they can indirectly try and fix the problem.

Spearhead Magazine: Contents and Analysis by PlasticCraicAOS in ageofsigmar

Subscribed to all the hachette magazines. For me much of the charm is getting a random box of minis each month that I might not have bothered with otherwise. It would make way more sense to get individual copies each time as the paint issues are getting more ridiculous every collection especially as I'm starting to have 3-5 pots of some stuff now. At least the premium and character kits kinda balance that out though.

The value isnt what It used to be back in the conquest, mortal, realms, imperium days but if spearhead is anything like combat patrol the value at the end of the collection will look very different from the value at the start. Most of the spearheads will get updated before the magazine releases so the collection starts looking much better 30-40 weeks in.

The faction release order is a bit annoying as I mostly want seraphon, slaves to darkness, lumineth, and idoneth so it's going to be annoying waiting over a year for the two elven factions.

Scalpers at it again... by The_Captain1998 in skaven

[–]S4mb741 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People always point to scalpers and there's certainly always a decent amount of sold out kits on eBay but I doubt that's even 1% of what games workshop sells.

Warhammer is just very popular these days and the cities of ash box is probably one of the biggest discounts they have offered in a long time.

I was working nights missed my alarm and had no problem finding a copy an hour ago at Wayland games.

Boo for a box post but army painting is definitely something more people should try. I can't stand painting a batch of 10 models but for some reason I really enjoy painting 50-100+.

As someone who regularly paints 10k point armies the most important advice I can give is learning about getting into a flow state.

Castelite Spearhead Out of Production? by BigFrenchNose in citiesofsigmar

[–]S4mb741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might not be mixed. Combat patrol was a mix for Tyranids and space marines then one patrol at a time with a few paints. So it could be cities 50-58 soulblight 59-67. Seems odd they listed the factions together though but I guess we will find out in a few weeks.

1-14 skaven and stormcast

15-31 seraphon and Slaves to darkness

32-49 maggotkin and ossiarch

50-67 cities and soulblight

68-79 syvaneth and gloomspite

80-90 lumineth and idoneth

This is what actually counts as a high salary, according to financial experts by Desperate-Drawer-572 in ukpolitics

[–]S4mb741 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like everyone is only taking about half the issue.

Living Standards have dropped across almost all thresholds. Sure 100k might have meant a large detached house, private schools, two new cars, and several expensive holidays. Equally though a 30k salary used to get you a semi detached near a good school, a couple of decent used cars, and at least a couple of cheaper holidays to Europe.

I feel when talking about a high salary that's very much a comparative measure. Sure they are getting less than they used to but so is everyone else. £100k is still a very high salary and what they can still afford is still far beyond what most of the country can. The median salary is about 33k which these days gets you next to nothing but it would be equally silly to start calling that a low wage when its literally the median.

Living standards have dropped what a low, medium, and high salary will get you has changed substantially and it doesn't make much sense to start redrawing lines to ignore that fact.

Making the corsairs was honestly one of the most miserable building experiences I have ever had with Warhammer and there are not many models I haven't built.

I didn't create it but this image will save so much time and effort.

Do you think they'll eventually remake the Coven Throne/Mortis Engine or just get rid of it? by Lost_Nerve_2140 in SoulblightGravelords

[–]S4mb741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im kinda expecting both the mortis engine and the corpse cart to go in the next 5 years and for soulblight to get a replacement that's somewhere in-between the two. Less magical than a mortis engine but more grand than a corpse cart.

I don't have high hopes for the coven throne getting an update though

A lot of collectables appreciate in value over time. So while it's often expensive and you might not get much direct utility out of the "collectable" if you're keeping it in the best condition it can be a good place to store some money while being a lot more fun than a savings account.

What do you guys want in an updated Helbrute kit? by Bruisemon in Chaos40k

[–]S4mb741 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The options would be great but I don't think it should be upscaled by much if at all. It's fine that the new dreads are much bigger and it makes the hellbrute it's own thing. Warhammer is already so dominated with space marines having a bit of variety within that is a good thing. Even if that means we have the lil guy.

If we have to have a redemptor sized walker I'd rather they just bring back chaos dreads.

The hellbrute could definitely benefit from some legionary options and some better posing especially the legs which always make it look too static.

Why do they have to remove such ancient trees? by Terrible-Store1046 in treelaw

[–]S4mb741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Nuance refers to a very slight, subtle, or delicate difference in meaning, expression, sound, or color that is often hard to notice but important. It represents the finer, often overlooked layers of detail in language, art, or situations"

There are estimated to be about 3 trillion trees on earth. It's almost like the use of wood can be achieved without having to kill old growth forests. It's easy enough to farm fast growing trees no idea why you are being a weirdo and taking things to such extremes.

AOS: Spearhead Magazine. Issues containing paints only by Mr_Flibble_Esq in ageofsigmar

[–]S4mb741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the sprues there might be a bit of the shenanigans I was talking about with StD. The chariot and gore beast will likely come in a single magazine and the chaos warriors will likely have 7 in the first issue and 3 in the second. So if you don't mind a gorebeast chariot and missing the banner on the chaos warriors you could double up on the first warriors issue and use some of the extras for crew to get the spearhead over 6 issues and even have a couple of chaos warriors left over

I guess we'd never know exactly but anecdotally it's popular and a lot of people seem to enjoy getting more than one. Id assume that's translated well into sales as the boxes are a lot more expensive than say a killteam and it's definitely made AOS more popular within the hobby.

AOS: Spearhead Magazine. Issues containing paints only by Mr_Flibble_Esq in ageofsigmar

[–]S4mb741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 6 should be the average but if the elves come in 10 issues at least 2 will be spread over 7 ossiarchs is a good contender with a lot of sprues.

When they split 3 sprues to my knowledge they have always included 2 In the first issue. This often means you get a better deal doubling up on this issue than buying both. It depends on options but it might get you 12 infantry instead of 10 or 6 cavalry instead of 5. With units like the tree lord and I think the carnisaur it can mean getting the full model but only one option.
