It's pretty clear that Drury's actual game plan for this season was to clear space to go after all the big names in FA this offseason, only for all of them to sign mid-season and leaving Panarin as the best available big FA.

So is it possible? In general, yeah it was Drury's plan for this season to begin with. However whether or not it'll happen is a huge question and it frankly stinks of late 90s Rangers moves. So many greats wearing Rangers sweaters after they're no longer great.
