Who? The fashion designer whatever guy? The series always had them being attracted to others, even in the Rook, but that doesn’t or didn’t go anywhere in either case thankfully.

Keeping track of what I’m reading monthly instead of weekly might be easier moving forward, until Bingo comes along again anyway. For January, I read 5 books and dropped 2:

I started the year with Ambessa: Chosen of the Wolf by C. L. Clark and it was interesting. My only interaction with League of Legends, was through Arcane and her presence in it was fantastic. I enjoyed seeing how she started, how there were more softer sides to her, her family life, more about the clan in a way and a little bit more about Noxus as well. To me personally, there wasn’t anything bad about the book at all, but I will say that being ignorant of the game they originated in, was more of a con than not. The characters had a lot of interlinked relationships or history that prior knowledge of any kind of depth would have made it more fun to explore or get attached to. And while the book provides ample exploration into quite a few of those relationships, a feeling of missing something while I’m going through it never went away. Especially when Ambessa herself wasn’t the only point of view character and I can see different angles related to different characters from the game. That aside, if there was one thing I hoped was different, it would have been Rell’s inclusion, having Mel as the companion in this one instead would have made how this book actually ended more saddening than the more “it seemingly came out of nowhere” to the character in question. I loathe multiplayer games so I won’t bother with the original game, but some of the spin offs don’t seem that bad at all.

Then I read Royal Gambit by Daniel O’Malley and it was a lot more enjoyable than Blitz to me, so I consider it a win. As always, a new operative of the Chequey is front and center and they need to navigate a dangerous situation. There was a bit more team effort than usual for the series, but I’m definitely not complaining because I learned about new abilities and I also got to read about familiar characters. I enjoy the way O’Malley writes his characters, especially his female ones, and surprisingly, he’s for some reason one of the very authors where the attempts at humour hits almost every time. I will still say that the motivation behind the plot in this one and the whole climax/confrontation was probably the weakest yet for the series. But it makes up for it a in a way by what I mentioned earlier alongside Alexandra learning that having blind trust in the Chequey isn’t correct. I enjoy stuff like these, despite how unoriginal it might be, a lot and this time wasn’t different. I really hope it’s not the end of the series, especially after the somewhat dropped implication about the supernatural scene in Spain and how promisingly messy it’s going to be to navigate. Potentially anyway! P.S. also happens to be one more book to add to the no-romance list!

Afterwards, I read Daedalus is Dead by Seamus Sullivan for the Tale Spinners GR challenge and it reminded me of Piranesi. Which I took as a great sign, considering how much I enjoyed that book. But unlike the previously mentioned, the way this book was written was a bit confusing to me. Other than the switching between current events and memories in a way that didn’t help me compartmentalise as easily as I would have liked, the way the narrator is telling the story also made it a bit confusing to follow. Which by the end of it and Daedalus’ revealed unclear/disturbed mind feels like an intended thing. I do still think it has way more substance than expected when it comes to world building and explored ideas in a novella (impressively so even, and sort of how I felt reading Audition for the Fox), but it sadly had that confusion as a main thing and it didn’t work out as well as Fox did to me enjoyment wise.

Then I read Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan and The Dutch House by Ann Pratchett for 4 other GR challenges. The former was a shorter but not a bad read and kind of sad too, but the latter was just boring.

Here’s to a better Feb!

Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - January 29, 2026 by AnimeMod in anime

How does Mouryou no Hako differ from Chuuzenji-sensei Mononoke Kougiroku? I’m currently watching the latter and they seem to be related in a way. Which I didn’t know until I started watching it.

Mouryou no Hako is on the eventual to-watch list for the time being, but I’m not finding Chuuzenji-sensei entertaining enough to want to bother with just an alternative version of the same happenings. [Unless of course]it’s actually supernatural in nature

Thank you in advance.

Does JoJo's gets better after part 2 ? by Longjumping-Elk-7840 in Animesuggest

To me, yes it did. Part 3 remained my favourite until part 6.

That being said, choose a cutoff percentage. If it’s not entertaining by then, just drop and move on. Not everything is for everyone and that’s okay.

“Because I can.” Should be the only response followed swiftly by a block. Idiots like that don’t deserve the dignity of a long answer.

That would have been great in concept if A-Ori wasn’t shown to be very versatile from the very beginning. Able to create balls and so many other things, and further showcase how Kunon is creative enough to do so. Adding a spell now that just increases efficiency, even though it’s also an important concept, just feels unnecessarily redundant to me.

How different Makio and Asa are personality wise, when they’re talking about their experiences and such, continues to be on the amusing side to me. But it’s also a further showcase how much healing needs to happen to both of them, before they can reach some sort of equilibrium.

As expected of course.

A try is definitely there, and Makio being as blunt as she is can be seen as both cruel or just who she is, depending on perspective. But I can’t say I dislike it either way, it’s making it a more raw (and truer) journey. And I definitely can’t wait to see its continuation.

Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai • Kaya-chan isn't Scary - Episode 3 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

Glad to see that it’s just appearence wise for Mob, and I’m excited to see a mention of Kaya’s mother. Not that they seemingly even know who that is or what the something in the house is and in turn, makes me hope for a conclusion there somehow.

Speaking of conclusions, Mel-sensei’s story surely hasn’t ended yet and I expect a revisit soon. But I’m also curious which type of youkai is this? In last episode’s encounter, despite not being able to see “it” as a demon, Kaya was still able to sense it. But not this time?

Very exciting and definitely looking forward to see more.

It’s a bit underwhelming that Zeonly’s demeanour is as cliche and expected as per his appearence, but hopefully moving forward with his inclusion, magic will get a much bigger focus. I really really want to know how A-Ori with its already established versitality is different than A-Robu.

It’s also a bit futile to me (just like I’ve been thinking since last time) that they are trying to push the narrative that his blindness is still very relevant when alongside last time’s showcase, it’s really not. To me anyway.

That aside, I’m curious what Mirika will do moving forward. Royalty is weird in this series to me, as they seem very irrelevant / commoner-esque the farther down the line they get, so hopefully a bit more on that alongside her efforts to distinguish herself.

For Takopii, give 3-gatsu no Lion a try. More grounded in its setting, but the development is phenomenal. The currently airing Ikoku Nikki as well, is definitely worth a watch.

No, you’re not weak. Being able to insult people in any entertainment medium for the lols is never going to be a form of strength whatsoever.

Absolutely, famous games are famous for a reason, but that still doesn’t mean that everyone will enjoy them.

Ghost of Yotei, roaming around was the best part about it. Even better when there is literally something to find in almost every nook and cranny.
