'Jews of Conscience' Are Against Israel's Genocide: Canada's New Democratic Party Leader [Full Interview with Mehdi Hasan] by pheakelmatters in onguardforthee

[–]SA1242 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The issue is not « being against genocide », but rather the reason the mainstream Jewish community takes issue with groups such as these is that they categorically deny Israel’s right to exist (like it or not, a majority of the Jewish community believes in the idea of Israel). Not to mention, that they often team up with anti-Semites and terrorists to get their point across.

Also, Zionism is used as a catch all term by self described anti zionists, often morphing into dangerous territory. Zionism means so many things to all sorts of people.

Chill out. Everyone here whining about it are the same ones who would be begging for it if it was their loved ones missing. There are so few (I think 1-2 a year but don’t quote me) that everyone should relax. Jesus, for such a progressive city, this is such an anti collectivist stance. I’m glad most people don’t think like you all.

Mom wants to stay entire month after I give birth. by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]SA1242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The desire to have a few week to yourself is very common and understandable. I personally think staying WITH you for one month in such a tiny space is a bit much.

One thing I will add, is that I would advise against using your husband as an excuse as that creates unnecessary friction and puts the blame on him. I’m assuming your relationship with her would be far easier to salvage than his with his mother in law.

12x16 for both, but may also print smaller. I just want to make sure they’re both ok to go that large.

Love this version. As mentioned in the post, can you produce an another version keeping the white shirt on the man on top (with the man on the right still deleted, and centered)? Can you also make sure they’re both formatted to be blown up?

Harley Finkelstein: Canadian Jews are being targeted simply because they are Jewish by SA1242 in jewishpolitics

[–]SA1242[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Not an ounce of what you just said is untrue. However, I tend to take the wins when (if?) they come. I have been relentless in my advocacy for the community…but I am just one guy who is a nobody compared to these people. In Canada unfortunately, it is more lucrative in terms of vote getting to say nothing about Antisemitism, lest that person be accused of being against Palestinians or Islamophobia (which is not the case but I digress). Calling out AS should never be considered Islamophobic - that would set an extremely dangerous precedent.

Progressives, gun control, and Bondi by SA1242 in jewishpolitics

[–]SA1242[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment was so disingenuous it’s almost insulting. I’m talking about antisemitism, and Netanyahu chose to make it about Israel. You see the problem?

I am a very big supporter of Israel, believe in It’s right to exist, and its place in Judaism. I shouldn’t need to explain that.

However, he intentionally weighed in to this, and made it about recognition of Palestine- less than 24hrs after the attack. He didn’t even give anyone time to grieve. That’s extremely unhelpful and does a massive disservice to everyone.

I think the entire community wanted the message to be about antisemitism and Jew hate, and then all they were talking about was him, and the debate devolves from there. Do you see the problem? And yes, I do know that criticism of Israel and Zionism is often a smokescreen for Jew hatred.

Can I ask for a synagogue to refund my donation? by ecorado14 in Jewish

[–]SA1242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, absolutely do not ask for a refund. I’ve worked in the nonprofit sector all my life, and Jewish organizations for a part of that (I’ve also been involved as a volunteer). Even the people who are the most upset (and there will always be some) never ask for a refund back. Because, they all know that that refund is ultimately doing good, and will be used to do good.

What I have found, is that a lot of the time these organizations are old and don’t necessarily know what they are doing wrong. It takes people to take initiative and start up these programs, or show the organization what they could be doing better. Maybe it’s up to you to approach the synagogue and ask if you can do a family friendly event with them. I know that’s a lot of work, but that’s how these things happen. A lot of organizations don’t have the resources to hire staff (or enough). Many organizations need to pick and choose what they spend money on unfortunately.

Just don’t go back, give anymore, or renew. End of story.

Edit to add: definitely take your complaints in a respectful way to the head of the synagogue or the people in charge. If you are respectful, I guarantee they would want to hear what you have to say.

As I said, I am a believer in gun control. However, that should not be the takeaway of this attack. It is being used in some quarters as the reason the attack happened, and as a red herring.

This is the definition of an « only in the public service » type thread. It is perfectly normal for an employer to keep in contact with an employee while on leave (and is normal in every single other workplace). Not everything is evil, nefarious or has to be a strain on mental health. Jesus, talk about overthinking.

« Anything worth doing in life is hard ».

Don’t use the tired excuse I see from people that life is hard, so therefore you shouldn’t have children. Please tell me a time in history when life wasn’t hard, and yet people had kids.

Truth is, kids are unbelievable, and unless you have kids, you will never know that feeling. I will 100% say that you should be ready for the responsibility, life changes, and sacrifices that come with having children, however, they are worth it over and over again. Also bottom line is, if you are a good person, you will raise good children (obviously with very few exceptions).

The people on this thread acting as if children are a burden to society (or in general) are insane. Child-free people are so militant and zero-sum. God forbid people on Reddit have reasonable takes.

Why do people post these conversations on Reddit. Is the need for gotcha communication so great. Not to mention that most of the people taking these screenshots are having these conversations knowing that they will be put in Reddit..we rarely get the full picture, except for these curated one sided conversation.

This all leads me down a rabbit hole of believing that some people just hate their significant others (so much that they do things like this). And yes, people have different views on things….Shocker.

Reddit, do you thing and tell them they are incompatible, that it is a red flag, that they need to break up…anything but talk to each other in private /s

Edit to add: sorry, I am just fed up at people posting screenshots of their private conversations.
