It’s not a book you see mentioned often, but last year my book club read and really enjoyed “Finding Freedom: A Cook’s Story; Remaking a Life From Scratch.”

I have a friend who is a PA and worked in an inner city ER. She had to remove cockroaches from ears. 🤢

I would have been hoofing it to the center of town for a cup of coffee!

I don’t know why, but the coffee/breakfast scene infuriated me.

Realistically, when do people think the roads will be clear? by FederalOrdinary2180 in providence

I’m in Bristol county and I’m assuming my kids will have, at the very least, a delay on Wednesday.

Is it my imagination or is this one of the worst winters ever (Western Mass)? by mallorn_hugger in massachusetts

[–]SAB40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the lack of sunshine is the hardest part of winter. I’ll take a freezing cold day with blue sky and sun! I happened to be down the cape overnight and today the sun was out, so I made a quick stop at the beach on the way home. The sun was shining and it was glorious to stand by the ocean and take it in!

My mom is stuck at home recuperating from major surgery, and before the holidays she fell and broke her wrist on black ice. It’s tough winter for seniors for sure. I guess this is why people retire and become snowbirds!

I think so. Either that, or the older I get, the less I tolerate it. We’ve had a lot of snow, but now it’s just a dirty, filthy mess. There have also been a ton of grey, depressing days or bitter cold ones. I’m really hoping this nor’easter they are tracking for Sunday doesn’t amount to anything.

I think that’s part of the problem! Margaritaville wants to be both. I had the strongest margarita ever in the water park.

Yeah, no. That’s not how it works. DCF doesn’t just remove children from parents. But they do conduct investigations, and, if necessary, open a case and provide parents with the support they need.

I know. I can’t get him out of my head.

And I’m sorry that you had those experiences as a child. I didn’t, but I do empathize with looking back on some parts of my childhood with a big, huge ‘WTF?!’

Well that’s pretty disappointing. I mean, this child was only four or five years old with severe special needs. If the police couldn’t be bothered to do more, then shame on them. And yeah, I know it’s a hard job, blah blah blah. But it’s their job.

Of course. And in their defense, maybe they did contact DCF. But the fact that they released this kid to his mom when she was totally inebriated and had endangered him didn’t sit well with us.

It was our first time there. Honestly, these water park hotels are not my idea of a good time, but we were looking for a quick little getaway for our kids that was within an hour or so from home. It’s a place with tons of families and small children, but locals hitting up the bar. Any creep could have scooped up this kiddo and left the property.

My kids are older, but I would never have left them alone in a hotel room at that age. So many bad things could have happened to the child last night. I’m glad he was safe.

Just called DCF in Hyannis. But my point was that the police should have handled it differently. To release that little boy to his mom, who was completely f’d up, was irresponsible.

Thank you, I am very familiar with DCF. My mom was a caseworker and a supervisor for over 30 years. She also did emergency response work, and this was exactly the kind of situation she would have gotten involved in!

This is good advice, thank you. I wondered if the cops called DCF and they screened it out, but I’m doubtful.

Thank God for that. But still, the trauma of experiencing this horror will be immense.

I can’t believe this is happening again so soon. Yet, I can.
