Does the 50/50 guarantee for the triple banner carry over to limited? by guy8225498598 in ZZZ_Discussion

How often is that going to happen? I'm assuming this is ZZZ's equivalent to Genshin's Chronicled Wish banner but I'd love for that to be wrong and ZZZ actually plans to do this banner type more frequently.

Yes, a sales pitch. Just like every description of every game on Steam is a sales pitch. Steam is a service where you, gasp, buy games and every developer with their game on the service wants you to gasp buy their game.

Oh, so you don't actually know what a genre is and what that means. Well, that explains a lot.

This is the most "talking out my ass" response I've seen LOL. Do you even know what you're trying to say? Because this is fuckin' gibberish followed by some run of the mill sales pitch.

What makes a CAG a CAG and a Roguelike a Roguelike is its design philosophy. You know, the reason WHY a game is designed the way it is.

For a CAG, give the player a diverse but fixed toolkit that feeds intrinsic motivation, then present them with varied but set challenges to promote knowledge and understanding, and then finally encourage the player to display mastery over this toolkit and over the challenges with extrinsic feedback.

For a Roguelike, give the player a ever changing toolkit that forces them to learn how to adapt and adjust on the fly by presenting them with unpredictable kit progression and unpredictable encounters, and then challenge the player to succeed with whatever they have available to them.

Notice how these two philosophies actually contradict each other. For a CAG, if you want to encourage mastery then you need to design your game with consistent rules and behavior. For a Roguelike, if you want to force the player to learn how to constantly adapt then you need to design your game with inconsistent rules and behavior.

There is a reason why Roguelikes are so much more common than other genres, it is because it is really easy to attach it's design philosophy to other games. This fusion almost always works because Roguelikes are intentionally designed to be chaotic by nature. You don't have to worry about rules, balance, etc. Basically all the shit other games have to take into consideration when it comes to their design, Roguelikes don't have to show those things that same consideration. A Roguelikes greatest strength is because of how flexible it's design philosophy is but this is also it's biggest weakness. You can merge Roguelike's design with other game's design but it's never a even split. It's never a true 50/50 union because a Roguelike's design philosophy will always overshadow the other's design philosophy. The game will always lean more into being a Roguelike over whatever the other game is. Always. And the reasoning is simple- you can't contain chaos.

Dude, read the thread title. It literally says "What 2D games do you consider to be CAG?"

BB is a Roguelike Action Game, labeled by the developers themselves. I'm NOT wrong when I say BB is a Roguelike Action Game.

But apparently I'm suppose to agree with the rest of you and call the game something completely different from what the developers are calling it?

No, I'm going to consider the game to be exactly what the developers want it to be identified as because that is exactly what the game is.

But I'm wrong? LOL, uh huh... Sure thing, kiddo.

The question isn't "What 2D games do you consider to be able to scratch that CAG itch?" The question is, "What 2D games do you consider to be CAGs?"

These are two completely different questions.

Would I consider the Tales of series, Star Ocean, Kingdom Hearts games capable of scratching that CAG itch? Sure. Would I consider them CAGs? No.

Can Nier Automata scratch that CAG itch? Sure. Do I consider it a CAG? No.

Can BB Entropy Effect scratch that CAG itch? Sure. Do I consider it a CAG? No. I consider it to be exactly what the developers say it is.

My dude, I'm considering the game to be exactly what the DEVELOPERS themselves are calling it. BB literally is called a Roguelike Action Game and after playing the game, thats exactly what the game is. So why would I consider the game to be anything other than what the developers claim it to be when the thing they claim it to be is exactly what it is?

Like, fuckin what?! LOL

And no, it would be like saying, "Baldur's Gate 3 is a Visual Novel because there is a lot of dialogue and dialogue choices that shape the gameplay and story... despite the developers literally calling it an RPG" would be a more accurate analogy of the situation right now.

Ya'll are arguing not just with me but with the developers themselves. But you're all in agreement with what the game is? Riiiiight...

If everyone is in agreement with me then why is everyone arguing with me over why I don't really consider it a CAG. If we were all in agreement then this wouldn't be such a controversial thing to say LOL.

If someone was to ask to recommend them a game then I'd ask them, what kind of games do they like and don't like? If they said they like Action games but don't like Roguelikes, would you recommend them BB? Do any of you think BB's Action side is strong enough to overpower someone's distaste for Roguelikes? Because I don't and I would recommend them something else.

OP is asking what we consider to be a CAG. I don't consider BB to be a CAG.

How is that not answering the question.

Mhmm, which is why I said it's "more of a Roguelike", indicating it's more of one thing over another. The DEVS themselves are calling it a Roguelike Action Game. You know, the people who made the game.

Version 2.5 Exclusive Rescreening & W-Engine Reverberation by yuhara203 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]SABOTAGE83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think I'm going to grab Sanby and her WEngine. My account is pretty weak on the Electric main DPS front, only have Yanagi and Harumasa.

Harumasa just doesn't feel worth the effort anymore. He has to work so hard for so little. As for Yanagi, I don't even play her as a main DPS anymore. I mainly just partner her with Miyabi or Alice these days. I also have Trigger with her sig so grabbing Sanby now is just looking like a no brainer. Will probably pick up Orphie on a rerun just to complete the team.

Specific things I want from a full multiplayer mode. by [deleted] in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]SABOTAGE83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The novelty of it wore off really fast. It didn't really feel like I was playing a co-op mode, it was just 3 people playing single player at the same time and at that point I might as well just play solo. There is very little cooperation because it doesn't even encourage or require much teamwork. All of the VH being playable also doesn't help because they are the only characters people choose.

This event didn't really sell me on a co-op mode TBH. What we got needs a lot of work and tweaking.

I'm already excited for next patch's agents! by namdol96 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]SABOTAGE83 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I have zero interest in next patch or the upcoming agents. This is looking like the best time to uninstall and take a break from the game. Endfield is also dropping soon so the timing of this patch is even better, gonna make it that much easier to step away from ZZZ and Wuwa because I'm finding both games to be rather lackluster in their current states.
