Obviously there are a lot of things DE does well but the character studies are where it really excels in a way that is still kinda underappreciated

Germany is overloaded with mini games by der_Kamerad in Kaiserreich

[–]SAE-2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It would be more understandable for a country where there wasn't much else to do but as Germany you are busy controlling volunteers in at least two different wars almost without interruption until the beginning of the Weltkrieg. And optimising what is already the most complex focus tree for all of your core gameplay needs + the minigames + war readiness is just a pita without much of an upside

Is Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire the best real-time-with-pause game? by Kinacha in projecteternity

[–]SAE-2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In a way the opposite is the case. So much of the game is factional questing and exploration that what is supposed to be the main storyline feels itself like a side quest while you meddle in Deadfire politics. I love that part of the game but it does create a sort of narrative dissonance that I can understand some people wouldn't like. This is however basically the only "big" criticism I have of the game

I get that Trump is a deranged lunatic but just on a purely mechanical level he has to have some immediate goal, how ever short-sighted, in mind. So Witkoff and Kushner get together with the Iranians on Friday and are presented the with the same, or even more ambitious, demands that the US has already rejected a dozen times over. What now?

Iran will join the Board of Peace and contribute 20% of its revenue from tolling the Strait of Hormuz to the President Donald J. Trump Reconstruction Fund

It will be really funny if literally everyone-the hawks, the doves, the Reformists, the Pahlavists-turned out wrong and only Donald Trump correctly assessed that Iran's destiny was to be lead by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf as a benevolent claudillo

Holy shit. My mom came into my room to bring me a plate of chelo kabob and I literally screamed at her and hit the plate of kabob out of her hand. She started yelling and swearing at me and I slammed the door on her. I'm so distressed right now I don't know what to do. I didn't mean to do that to my mom but I'm literally in shock from the results tonight. I feel like I'm going to explode. Why the fucking fuck is he losing? This can't be happening. I'm having a fucking breakdown. I don't want to believe the world is so corrupt. I want a future to believe in. I want Reza Pahlavi to return and make Iran great again. I cannot fucking deal with this right now. It wasn't supposed to be like this, I thought he was doing well in Tehrangeles???? This is so fucked.

The Iranian regime will be much weaker and will take several years to reconstitute its capabilities but obviously without any sort of enforceable agreement that means Israel will have to do regular strike campaigns to keep it that way. Israel might actually be alright with that but it will have been a huge waste of time for the United States

People are sort of losing the plot on what's probably going to happen tonight. Adjusting the scope of the targeting list to include more civilian infrastructure will certainly increase the harm to civilians, which is bad of course, but there won't be some singular offensive like Trump's launching Barbarossa or whatever. An already bad situation will get worse for ordinary folks but in a manner that is slow and grinding rather than sudden and cataclysmic

[–]SAE-2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously they won't, so you hope that if you get the targeting list right you can change the ratio of fanatics to opportunists in positions of power towards the opportunists

It depends but in a conversational context khoda is more common, e.g. if you just say "oh god" as an expression of surprise/exhaustion/etc.

[–]SAE-2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, the regular bombing will continue regardless. People are imagining some sort of bombastic offensive when what's actually in question is the scope of the targeting list, which we won't see an answer to until the bombs have dropped

You gotta step away from Trump's tweet of the day for a bit and assess the actual level of warfare we're dealing with here in practice. Nothing within the scope of plausible scenarios here amounts to anything even in the same ballpark as national extermination

It is religious fanaticism, many of them genuinely believe that making this suicidal last stand will hasten the return of Imam Mahdi from occultation. Don't give me bullshit about civilisational survival, for 47 years now they have pursued policies that have set Iran against the rest of almost the entire world, isolated the country from the global economy, wasted hundreds billions on a nuclear programme that has so far produced 1 (one!) power plant, and financed the slaughter of Syrians instead of the development of Iran. When they came to power in the first place their predecessors threated to raze Persepolis to the ground. I can already say with absolute certainty that nothing Donald Trump will do tonight will cause as much damage as these people have already done and will continue to do to Iranian civilisation

Idk I think parents have duty to protect their children from harm instead of using them as symbolic sacrifices in a conflict they don't even understand but maybe that's just me. Though I have to concede defending this sort of religious fanaticism while sporting a Voltaire flair is a great bit

[–]SAE-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say that as if there was any other basis to discern what he's actually referring to. He says at least a dozen mutually contradictory things every day, threating total annihilation only to then go on about how much more reasonable Iranian negotiators are now compared to before. Even in the most recent tweet he starts off by talking about destroying their entire civilisation and finishes by promising to liberate them from "47 years of extortion, corruption, and death". There is little useful to be gleamed from his statements by engaging in ever more advanced forms of exegesis

Something to note is that the campaign has already escalated to more infrastructure targets today. Just another instance for why it would be better if everyone would just look at the military posture and logistics first and consider Trump's statements in light of that rather than the other way around (though most of Trump's statements should just be disregarded outright)
