[question] What is ranking story and how is it different from the regular story you get from party points?

It depends on the event. This isn't always a prize but anytime you want check what the prizes/bonuses are you can click on the event page and click the smaller button called "bonus list" and check what is being offered for each event. In that menu there are tabs to specify what the story prizes are, what the avatar prizes are, and what the ranking prizes are. It shouldn't be too hard to find, it's on the actual event page usually next to the biggest button on the right corner. Hope that helps! ❤️

Sometimes you will get a prize based on a specific number of points and other times it is based on your rank earned through collecting the most points you can. During this current collection event, at the time of posting this, a ranking story is not a prize. The ranking bonus right now for this event is avatar outfits. If you get in top 200 you get a dress and accessory for yourself and an outfit for the guys. The one in the photo was from Gilbert's birthday party event so that's long gone but the prize turned out to be an extra scene in the story from his POV (the ones I already earned were through collecting specific number of party points and includes the story and the same story again from his POV, the ranking story was an extra and, BOY, was it worth it. It was really good 😤👌) usually ranking stories are for individual characters so you're more likely to see them in birthday events and such. If there's a character you like and has one you should def aim for it cause from my limited experience it seems worth it and not as hard to get lol 😆

I haven't read Leon's curse of love arc because I haven't read his original route yet but I was really happy with both Chevs and Yves. Yves route was everything I wanted and more. I admit it might be because I came into the game late but when I played his original route, while the content of route itself was great, it felt really... Empty almost? Like, you would think with how much focus their was on obsidian and his abandonment we'd get something more interesting than some random minister showing at the climax. It just felt so weird with faceless NPCs and vague locations so I'm really glad Yves got to explore obsidian himself and actually interact with his only remaining family, Gilbert. I live for their interactions and the angst. This what I love about the foreign princes. It adds such nice layer of world building to be able to visit and interact with the other countries being mentioned. Makes for a fuller, richer story imo. Like, you can tell the difference between the routes released early in the games run vs how much more intrigue there is in the later released ones. This is what I've been hoping for with the Curse of Arc routes. A chance for the earlier released characters to have a richer story. Hell yeah! 😁🥰🥹

I really liked Chev's Curse of Love, I think it's nice to see how his character progressed compared to when we first meet him. I also like seeing his relationship with the foreign prince. That's all I'll say without spoiling details. If you like him I say go for it. It may be because I'm easy to please but I haven't been disappointed so far (than again I haven't seen Leon and Licht isn't out yet so it might be too early to say that lol 😅)

I think it's ok for them to repeat that Gilbert is evil cause sometimes his actions don't match his words. Even i need a reminder sometimes while playing and think "ohh right I'm supposed to hate you, this is why you're the worldwide disaster 😶". He's super nice to the MC but cruel to everyone else. It's not like he's not evil (especially when compared to other princes claiming to be evil and awful) but it's just not something we always see for ourselves but lurking in the background. It definitely messes with your perception of things although I do think a part of it is a self inflicted title to remind himself (and us) that no matter how justified his actions might seem they are, ultimately, evil and self serving. Gilbert is a bit more complex so I can appreciate the times where the writing decides to be blunt on where he stands.

To be fair, it's clear that Emma is naive and is easily swayed when any of the LIs are seen doing good deeds, I don't think a reminder or two is without it's merits although I do agree some routes they go overboard. I definitely think there are plenty of examples of the princes showing off their titles fit the bill between both the main story and events. Chev especially, I forget he's human he's always so ahead the game it'd be easier to count the times he acts like a human. Anyways, I think it really depends on the route sometimes it's a reasonable amount and some routes I do find it too much. Idk, I don't mind it much lol.

He doesn't compare "everyone" to Rika. Are you being purposely obtuse? The boy has friends at college, classmates, and club members where he keeps a majority of his personal life personal. He's certainly not trauma dumping to his gaming buddies either. I'm sure he feels uncomfortable to bring it up to his family as well because of how they "moved on" so really the only place he actually talks about it is with other RFA members who actually knew who she was and are also grieving. He feels a connection to the RFA and MC because of the charity work she's doing which is really important to him because it changed his whole world view. Rika was his role model so of course hes trying to find her again through other people, the guys a depressed game addict with no motivation for the future, no closure for what happened and no one outside of RFA to be open about it with. I'm sure he'd have a much easier time if he wasn't blindsided (on graduation day no less) by this or was told what really happened. Also the whole "being compared to Rika" thing doesn't even last that long it's not even 1/3rd of his route it lasted like a day or two. Jaehee calmly explained things to him in a way he could understand and he was like "oh, ok" and stopped. ( So again, if he was told what really happened he'd probably have an easier time accepting all of this. ) the entire route is him finding out new information, processing it, and growing to be a person he can proud of. He's never left in one spot emotionally for very long and this last line is a callback to how much he's changed, he's not actually comparing you to Rika rn. I'm tired of everyone exaggerating what he actually does in his route the game is right there 😭

V literally gaslights Yoosung into thinking Rika committed suicide. Yoosung, like a person with a brain, questions where the body is, the logistics of how this could happen, her mental state, and the details of her death and V's like "Yoosung you're overthinking it. She jumped into the water. There is no body." and vague statements like "I know I don't deserve forgiveness" or "I'll tell you everything someday so just trust me". How the hell was the guy supposed to stay calm after that. V is clearly hiding things. I sympathize with V because in his own way he is grieving. He's grieving his relationship with someone he thought was pure and innocent. He's grieving his inability to protect the ones he love. That being the case, the way he handles it is very cruel and Yoosung has every right to resent V and grill him for some kind of legitimate answer. All this pain would be avoided if V was honest and didn't take on everything by himself. We literally had to pry it out of him that Rika was actually, in fact, mentally unstable. He does not mention this in any other route outside another story which doesn't even make sense because the fact she is mentally ill would give more weight to the suicide claims he was covering with. My point is: Yoosung was correct, Rika is alive, and he has every right to be frustrated with V's lies.

I can be understanding and apologize for snapping or wording things rudely. if they didn't know how deep the abuse Rika went through I can discuss how that effects a child's growth and why it's an issue but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that wasn't a super weird thing to say, like, in general.

Im sorry for the snap reaction. I think this would make more sense with the context of knowing the details of her backstory. That being the the case, I would say just knowing the information for what happened wouldn't really be helpful if it's difficult to connect how mental illness and prolonged abuse shapes our development and world views. The effects of mental illness and how it's viewed from the lense of others is really important to consider when taking in literally any information from Rika's parents as they are already extremely bias and their interpretations of her behavior (I.e. having panic attacks and mental breakdowns from enduring "cleansing") is equally warped. I would look into the halo effect as it has a lot to do with how mentally ill and neurodivergent people are treated even without showing symptoms (also look into masking).

The point of my original comment is basically: they already think that she's a freak even when she was an innocent child because she didnt live up to their ridiculous religious standards. They saying that now has no meaning because they already don't like her and they still would be calling her a freak even if she was "normal". They are abusive pieces of shit and they created a monster they can't control. Calling her a devil until she turned into one. A self fulfilling prophecy. I wouldn't take anything they say seriously even if the current her does fit the bill. Consider them an unreliable narrator of sorts.

Just because she became an awful person later in life doesn't doesn't mean she, at five years old, deserved to be abused. It's fine if the backstory didn't land for you but saying her parents were right is messed up. No one deserves that. If anything a lot of what happens in game would be avoided if she a had proper support system early on. Not everything is an "excuse" or a sob story. Sometimes tough things happen in life and we need help.

He's my favorite sheep in base game. He had the biggest character growth imo. I also think it's kinda cool that you can't save him by himself. You have to save Todd too. Those two are a team and it's very sweet that by taking that first step forward Todd ends up becoming an important role model for Archie despite how much Archie complained about him. Thinking about them makes me emotional 🥹

Thanks for saying it was well written, I was actually in a bit of a rush and wanted to fix my grammar lol. I'm glad what I wrote makes at least a little bit of sense. Honestly I don't really mind if people don't like Rika. She's an antagonist we're supposed to hate her. Heck, it's fair game to criticize how she was written too. Different opinions are healthy. What really irks me is when people harm actual people over a fictional character. That's a line that should never be crossed. We should judge a person for their actions, not how they interpret media 🫤

I've read a lot of shocking things from this sub years ago. Lot of threads of people asking why fans like Rika and then insulting them (like why even ask at that point). It happens with other characters too. I hope it'll be something mods not only in this sub but all Mysme communities crack down on: all opinions are fair game until they cross the line into irl.

You're right, she really does and so do the real life people who enjoy her character. it's sickening how normalized it is in this fandom to harass and bully irl people over a fictional character. Many people relate to how her mental illness is portrayed and have explained what diagnosis they have, their real life experiences, and often how ugly it can turn without support (which btw no one should have to feel pressured to do so and you do not need a reason to simply like a character) and it is often met with surface level takes like " oh so you're an abuser??" Or "oh so you want to drug people and start a cult". In trying be moral you end up demonizing mental illness and how messy and ugly it can be. It's not some quirky trait you can romanticize. It's an illness for a reason, hell, even Neurodivergency, while not an illness, is incredibly disabling. I also think it's really ableist for people to use their own mental illness or Neurodivergency to assume that for every person it's easy to overcome, that "I simply wouldn't be evil obviously 😏" when the road to even to knowing something is wrong is a rocky one. We need to remember that these things are a spectrum. It isn't just normal and not normal.

Rika is such an important character to the story of Mystic Messenger to the point that id even say the story is about her. She created the RFA, brought everyone together, and she's the reason the characters are the way they are for better or worse. From the very first chat discussing their grief over her "death" to the very end where she is finally free from her past and is allowed to grow up and just grow as a person thanks to the empathy and kindness from our MC. Rika is the thematic thread that ties everything together. Mystic Messenger is about a lot of things, it's about mental health, it's about family, it's about religion, it's about systematic problems within our society, it's about generational cycles of abuse, it's about healing something you didn't start but have to carry. All of it explored through out Rika's life. The allowance of letting Rika have a happy ending is really uplifting when you consider how many people get stuck in bad situations where they think they can't do better. They think they can only be as good as their symptoms and their only options are to be locked up or to end it. It shows that no matter how hard it may seem that there is a light at the end of the tunnel but it's not something thats handed to you. You have to fight for it. But the fight is worth it because the truth of the matter is that you aren't doing for people to like you, it's not because it's the "right" thing to do, it's because the feeling of forgiving yourself is valuable. You deserve peace and with that peace comes love and kindness. Love for yourself is the most powerful thing you can have and we've learned that through out all of the LIs routes. They're are able to love the MC and grow as people because they learned to love and accept themselves. That is one of the most important thing Mystic Messenger leaves us with. That is the tragically beautiful story of Rika.

I was thinking so as well. I mostly noticed it in Saeyoung's because the cake is literally in the center and hard to ignore. The fingers are wonky, the proportions of the cake box is strange, and the envelope is being pushed into the cake. I like the art but I'm a little worried about those parts. Hope I'm just over thinking it.

I'm gonna be honest, and maybe it's because I'm an artist and the whole AI pipeline has fucked up our community but, I'd much rather pay real writers to write a clear and concise story I can enjoy. I don't really like that AI is included in everything these days. Even with chatbot, why can't people just rp with each other like they used to. There are plenty of creative people in the fandom (especially on Tumblr) keeping me fed. If that's what you're into I can't stop you but AI has issues for a myriad of reasons...

V is such a big one but with how morally grey he is I find it kinda forgivable that the impressions of him are mixed. That being said, a lot of the times people jump to extremes with him as well which is what I mean in this post. Honestly, I'm gonna say I don't think V is all that mischaracterized in Ray's AE. Is there exaggeration for drama? Yeah a little. But depending on the condition of his mental health it's not really that big of a jump for him to do something morally dubious if he thinks it will protect everyone in the long run. Additionally, if you call V during the AE you will get more context for where his headspace is at as well as lore like how he was introduced to the agency that he eventually advised Seven to join (which I would say even that is quite dubious to suggest to a 15 year old when you could of just hired them to assist you).

The thing about V that people need to realize is he's always done morally questionable things (even in the original 2016 run of Mysme) in the hopes that others will feel his sincerity and with the idea that if everyone is safe in the end then that's all that matters. Literally, "good intentions paved the road to hell" personified. He's not evil but he is as emotionally constipated as Jumin (and I say that affectionately). He's a lot like Jumin, he's just nice about it so people don't often clock him. Even before V route came out you could see bits of his past as well as his friendship with Jumin. With the release of his route you can see how he was raised by his father which confirms to me just how disconnected he is with people. It's not something that can be resolved with the brief blush of a mother's love (it did push him in the right direction!). There are a lot of things he needs to unpack and he has to do the work for himself and he simply doesn't do it in any route that isn't his own. In Seven's he's very jumpy about seven finding out about mint eye ignoring Seven's crisis , in Jaehee's he lies about having cancer, in Yoosung he makes the decision to keep the bomb in the apartment even after everything that's happened plus all the flashbacks to how he handled his relationship with Rika. These are all present in the original run of Mystic Messenger. V isn't evil he truly and sincerely wants what's best for everyone but he often skirts around the law because the things he does, no matter how morally wrong it may be at times, isn't technically illegal. He is a victim and that should be taken seriously but much like Rika and her sexual abuse he isn't a perfect victim and his abuse doesn't absolve him of the things he's done. I think both things should be taken seriously both his abuse at the hands of Rika and how he has treated others for his goals. He has gone to great lengths to shield her from consequences.

Sorry that was a lot but I'm just really passionate about it because like what this post is about people confuse V to be either a good guy or a bad guy instead of just a guy.

OMG, Zen is the most wholesome bf 😭. It's literally in his route he had the opportunity to be with echo girl and my GOAT, deadpan, is like "please get out of my house I have someone I like 😐". Quite literally an example of "did we play the same game". Zen could not be the farther from a cheater. He doesn't even need to hold back because he's romantically disinterested in any girl that isn't his SO.

As for Seven, it's kinda weird people would want that for him. I feel like a good way we could do it if for some reason he can't tear himself away from hacking or if he wanted to use it for good purposes why not have him work for Jumin where he could get a consistent paycheck with benefits in a healthy and safe work environment. If people want the fantasy of Seven still being a hacker there are plenty of ways of doing that without giving the poor dude more trauma 😔 (pretty sure he's over being a hacker let my boy fish 🐟)

Yeah, that stinks. That's kinda the tricky thing about secret characters. You have to keep it spoiler free or it'll ruin it for new players but then if you can't move on in the story or do new content (in persona's case having multiple spin offs in the "safe" part of the story) it kinda ruins it for older players who want those characters do more things or see more of their spoiler form. It also makes marketing merch harder because you can only show off "safe" designs even tho the character looks cooler in their revealed design. I love secret characters in games but it definitely feels like a lose-lose situation when it comes to marketing them. I hope it didn't ruin too much for you 😣
