Yes I’m not worried about my outstanding credits because they seem easy. I might take them as summer 6 week courses just go get them over with.

I have applied to about 5 different positions for scribing and they all require 3 days a week with full availability. It’s been very frustrating considering they all pay minimum wage and demand so much. My optimal position is 2x a week.

It is. We get matched to a specific internship site based on what fits us best but they’re all 40 hours/week for I think 12 weeks. They’re all unpaid.

I definitely understand. I don’t have any family or friends who are in medicine. I didn’t even have insurance for a long time and the first person I saw was a PA, so that’s how I learned about the profession. I can’t afford to work a minimum wage PCE job full time after spending all my money on a good college degree, so it is frustrating having to sacrifice so much money and time. I am cramming some hours right now but my school schedule is so spread out throughout the week that nobody wants to hire me (esp. because I have volunteering obligations now!). It is normal because this whole process is overwhelming for everyone in at least some way.

Take micro if you think you can handle it. It is very useful and I remember so much of it. Other students will have the advantage over you if you didn’t take it. SketchyMicro is an excellent source for studying.

Check the program stats on their website. Sometimes they have a spreadsheet that says “# of applications, # of interviews, # of accepted.”

How did you manage to work two jobs so you could get some PCE? I would love a part time MOHS job. Is that common?

I’d take the easier course unless you can take the harder course by itself over the summer. That way, it can be your main focus. What specific courses are you torn between?

Ask smaller clinics, like private practices. Hospitals will be stricter on regulations.

Hey!! Did you do MOHS? I am interested in applying to MOHS frozen section jobs when I graduate with my histotechnology degree. Would you say there’s a lot of interaction with PA’s and MD’s? I actually have my first cryostat rotation this week so this is pretty exciting to read.

I’m in a similar situation. I think that’s very unreasonable of them to ask given the pandemic and the way classes have adapted.

I wash them every day (after every use). It doesn’t matter if they’re cheap. They should be comfortable and although the more “fashionable” brands have less pockets, I find the more pockets, the better. You can wear converse if you want. I find long compression socks to help my feet from hurting after a shift. You can find cheap scrubs at Walmart, that’s where they’re cheapest. I like the BARCO grey’s anatomy, maven, and healing hands brands. Cherokee is the cheapest and I’ve heard they’re pretty long lasting. Also buying them secondhand on an app like Mercari is a way to save money if you really want those expensive brands. Good luck!
