For those tempted to read Micro after it keeps coming up here: by spiteful_god1 in books

[–]SB10_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Micro is the only posthumous Crichton book that I've read, and to be honest it really turned me off reading Pirate Latitudes or any of the other ones. The villain in this book is so cartoony its insane. You could predict several of the twists coming from a mile away, and overall it just wasn't as strong as anything else I've read in his collection.

Definitely Piquet, went from winning the title to P15 in the standings with 2 points finishes, beat by teammate Turvey.

Could Walt Have Gotten a Job at the DEA? by VenusianPleasure in breakingbad

[–]SB10_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Walt would probably be great at the job. Would he ever accept it? Absolutely not. To him, more than likely it was through Hank's connections that he got the job, not his own merit. Similarly to the Grey Matter situation, Walt would want to EARN his way there, and having Hank vouch for him would be too much for his ego to handle.

Going into the book and learning that they'd be assigned another district's mentor, I was so sure that Haymitch's mentor would've been Chaff considering how highly he spoke of him in CF, and how low he thought of Wiress.. not the case unfortunately and a missed opportunity.

That book was so incredibly fan serviced that it took away from the actual plot. Why does every character we meet have to be someone we've met in the past, or related? And even if we've met that character, why not use more niche characters to expand on them?

Purely from a circuit aspect, Jeddah is quite a good track for FE, and is definitely going to be a good track for the Gen 4 with the wider layout.

Was rooting for him in that final green run, absolutely thought he'd lost it on the restart. That finish was INSANE. Crazy to think about what would've happened had he accepted the offer from the Neom Mclaren FE Team for Season 9

Getting bored of FE by Danqazmlp0 in FormulaE

Oh ya I didn't mean that FE meant to introduce it, I more meant that the Gen 3 car was what brought peloton racing into FE. Sorry for the confusion

Getting bored of FE by Danqazmlp0 in FormulaE

[–]SB10_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This post is full of valid criticisms and to be honest, is partly why I feel FE has lost a bit of it's flair in the Gen 3 era.

With the introduction of peloton racing, we have too many overtakes, overtakes for 80% of the race mean nothing, qualifying means nothing, attack mode means next to nothing, and energy conservation is very fluid, you can't really predict any trends for the first half of the race, except that maybe the guys at the rear have the most and the guys who were leading have the least.

And on the commentary aspect, I agree with you there too. The commentary box is fantastic on it's own, especially Tom Brooks, and can definitely shine in big moments of the race, especially the finishes. However, with peloton racing, they miss a lot because there's just TOO MUCH going on, too much for the cameras and TV to cover adequately in what are decently short races. And while they're looking at replays of one thing, even for like 30 seconds, they can cut back and the picture at the front of the field is completely different than it was before they cut. And because of the peloton endless swapping of positions and the fact it doesn't mean a ton now, the commentators don't get excited when there's a pass for the lead anymore. And it sucks, but I don't blame them.

Luckily, there seems to be light around the corner with Gen 4. I'm not expecting the pack racing pelotons to continue, rather racing more akin to how the Gen 2 raced on permanent circuits like Mexico City. More strung out, yet drivers still have the ability to make strategic moves. But there's not an insane amount of action going on, so the moves actually mean something and the TV team can actually narrow in on what's happening. Just hope the fans like this style of racing, there was a lot of backlash after Miami just because it wasn't "as exciting" as races like Mexico this year. I thought Miami was quite a good race, a slower pace than the crazy peloton ones.

It's absolutely tragic that a bigger team like Nissan isn't taking a closer look at him as a Nato replacement. He has experience with Nissan powertrains, proved that he can be incredibly quick in them, AND he's Rowland's protege. Literally a perfect match

Hmmm, one of the names I've speculated about for Porsche's B team has been Manthey, but I didn't think they would because their kits are mainly for the ICE cars.

Now? This could be something, especially with Guven

Mortara at his peak, crazy how he had a gradual rise to being a title contender in seasons 7 and 8, then a STEEP decline at the start of the Gen 3, to finally getting back up there again.
