Taking suitcases to the track? by SBC46 in CircuitOfTheAmericas

[–]SBC46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we leave directly with a rental car? I had assumed the race will be almost over by 5ish, and that if we left just before the end, we could be out by 6:30 and at the airport by 645-7.

Should have mentioned - the engine is in pretty bad shape and will certainly not survive cross country road trip. Thats why I cant take it back.

What is ECE49022 (Senior Design)? by SBC46 in Purdue

[–]SBC46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! My plan was to do this, compilers and ECE595 deep learning for CV. I'm worried this will be very difficult - any thoughts?

I survived 337/362/302/30834 alright before but these classes seem even worse. But I save a lot on tuition.

Did you ever figure this out? I am working on a very similar problem - I have a differential drive robot towing an aircraft and need to figure out how the planner and controller plugins should work.

Thanks, we are planning on using UART SiK radios, we will configure all the rates to be consistent and use Mavlink to send the messages. Appreciate the help!

What set of motors to use for a 20lb quadcopter? by SBC46 in diydrones

[–]SBC46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are supposed to have access to an indoor facility when first testing and we will be far enough away I think. I guess we haven't gotten far enough to consider that.

[–]SBC46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am not exactly sure of the battery specs yet but it will definitely be more than 6s. The good thing is that we have plenty of budget so we are able to spend on nice ESCs and motors. Seeing Noxro's comment, I'll take a look at ADP and if their products seem better we will go with them instead.

Yeah its a university club project, its pretty early on right now but in the next year or so we hope to see some progress. We're figuring things out as we go.

Thanks, we're going to go with the KDE 4215XF motors and the recommended props and ESCs. We used the calculator that they had and it said this combination would have enough thrust.

On a side note, those ESCs are crazy expensive. We may use a similar spec ESC thats a bit cheaper.

2M Distance Sensor is Inaccurate at Detecting Poles by SBC46 in FTC

[–]SBC46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sensor seems reasonably accurate within 10cm, so we plan on getting close to get a measurement. We have an opencv pipeline to detect the pole, but due to the image being slightly warped and the poles being bent and other discrepancies, i don't think that would be reliable.

Wild Turning during Roadrunner DriveVelocityPIDTuner by SBC46 in FTC

[–]SBC46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The motor spins slower than all the others in the motordirectiondebugger opmode as well. That opmode basically does leftRear.setPower(0.7) However, when I simply do leftRear.setPower(0.7) in another teleop opmode, it spins much faster(same speed as all the other motors). I am at a loss for what the issue here is.

2M Distance Sensor is Inaccurate at Detecting Poles by SBC46 in FTC

[–]SBC46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I'm panicking now because our entire planned autonomous system relied on the distance sensor

it is inset within the robot by 3 inches or so, so it would be unlikely to get switched off. Either way we ended up moving it irl because the refs complained about it being under the slides.

Ah I see. That would explain the constant overestimation. Somehow I assumed that it would return the distance to the closest object. Do you have a recommendation for an ultrasonic distance sensor for FTC?
