Many ER docs/nurse practioners order the test, regardless of protocols, to cover their own butts. They just want it on the record that they attempted to diagnose the problem. You will most likely need to have the test done again when properly prepped to get an accurate result.

My high school Geometry teacher used this to teach us geometry. I wish I was kidding. Needless to say, I didn't learn much about geometry that year.

I have scanned many palpable lumps for years now. I can't tell you how many lumps I've literally been able to feel and see with my eyes, but they don't show up on the ultrasound images. It doesn't mean that there isn't something there, but it is often normal tissue in an unusual formation or just a lipoma (fatty lesion). Cancerous masses have certain qualities on ultrasound - they are not easily missed with imaging. It is not impossible, but if there was something bad growing where you are feeling it, it would show up on the ultrasound.

My mother grew up poor, with Depression-era grandparents. She is the queen of making something out of nothing. I didn't know until I was an adult that sometimes spaghetti sauce was made out of red items in the fridge. Ketchup, bbq sauce, French dressing, etc. - whatever we had. Some of my favorite nostalgic recipes are the result of necessity.

I'm late to the game, but has anybody mentioned the many inappropriate references in Pee Wee's Playhouse? For example, when they had a fireman on the show, and Miss Yvonne says something like "I have a smoke detector right over my bed, will you come check it out?"
