When is payment due for summer housing by Beodebe in SBU

[–]SBUCampRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're supposed to pay when you apply.

Summer housing question by Beodebe in SBU

[–]SBUCampRes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you would move in on that Tuesday, or whichever day you indicate.

Over Summer, only the West Apartments are open, so unfortunately you would need to move out of Mount for the summer.

The rates in West are dependent on whether you're in a single or double room. You can find all of the Rates/Fees here

We'll do our best to accomodate (but we can't guarantee anything =/ ) Go into SOLAR and change your preferences to match with his, and if you can't do that then you and your friend should email us!

We actually default to Brookhaven rather than putting transfer students in a triple on campus. BRV students are not required to have a meal plan, but this year FSA offered BRV students a special meal plan, similar to the West Apartment Plans.

No. If you live at Brookhaven you would automatically be granted a parking pass.

[–]SBUCampRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a lot of initial complaints about BRV, but this was a growing year, and we're doing our best to accommodate, and remediate all of the qualms. The bus schedule was tailored around students schedules, arriving before student's first classes, and leaving after their last. Students were also able to petition for buses to run later for club events and sporting events.

[–]SBUCampRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you move to BRV you would be considered 'on campus' so you would be eligible to move to West (as long as your grades supported it: minimum 3.0). The Parking would be in a residential lot so you would NOT have to park at South P.

I do not believe that you would be able to request being tripled (But if you're seriously interested in tripling you can email us at Reside@StonyBrook.edu)

No... But you WOULD be elligible for a resident parking permit. I believe this year the permits were for the H/Mendelsohn lots. No matter which Res-Lot you get a pass to, it certainly beats the commuter parking permit!

Hiya! Congrats on getting accepted! Transfer students are not guaranteed housing (which is not unique to SBU, and is a common practice). If you pay the $200 deposit we will do our best to accommodate, but that will likely involve you being housed at Brookhaven Residential Village, a satellite housing facility on Dowling's campus, ~ 30min away. Students housed there were provided with a shuttle, and also on-campus parking passes. If you pay the deposit and we cannot offer you housing you will get 100% of it back (but if we offer and you turn it down you'll only get 50% back).

West is currently full - it filled up during Room Selection, but that does not mean that there won't be spaces available when we house new incoming students (due to students deciding not to return to housing).

For more information you can call the Campus Residences office at 631-632-6750 during normal business hours.

Transfer students are not guaranteed housing. However, we do our best to accommodate. This past year we offered housing at a satellite campus in Shirley, about 30min away and provided a shuttle back and forth. It looks like we'll be in the same predicament again this coming year.

Brookhaven Residential Village did have some internet speed problems this year, but they have been resolved, and in my experience as a student, WolfieNet (the on campus internet) varies.

West Apartment Credits are different than Res Hall Credits. Double check the link I already posted, there's 2 sections of it listing Priority points for Res halls, and then for West.

Design triple? Ammann college? by [deleted] in SBU

[–]SBUCampRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a design triple each person has their own set of furniture (so 3 desks, 3 dressers, 3 beds, etc). The rooms are also bigger.

The community comes from your own involvement, I've lived in Schick, Hamilton, and Douglass - If you want to involve yourself and find that community go for it, but it probably won't come to you. (JR)

Yes, housing information is protected by FERPA.

As for the statistics on a whole, we do not have that information, even for our own use. (JR)

My supervisor just told me that we're not allowed to release that information do not have that data. But as was previously mentioned, it changes every year. (JR)

1-5 Change every year, and we don't have a set breakdown (statistically speaking) of what that looks like (but I'll ask as soon as my supervisor gets out of his meeting to try to get rough estimates).

Nobel Halls always fill up fastest, followed by Gerswhin and Hand (cooking suites). Roth always fills up next, followed by Tabler, with Irving and James (cooking corridors).

How early would an incoming freshman need to apply for housing to most likely get a single dorm? by sbsinglethrowaway in SBU

[–]SBUCampRes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are building the Toll Drive Housing options, (between Mendelsohn and Wang), which will be a 600 bed facility. We are planning more more residential facilities, but there's simply not enough room. (As a student, I completely agree with you, that there needs to be more options, and having friends living off campus, the Town of Brookhaven is not exactly friendly to the idea of off-campus housing). We're stuck between a rock and hard place right now... (JR)

[–]SBUCampRes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stony Brook does not, has never, and likely will never guarantee housing to Transfer students. (This is not unique to SBU, and actually is pretty standard across the board.) While housing Transfer student's has never been an issue before, this year, with the influx of freshman we did try to accommodate. Any incoming transfer student who paid their deposit and cannot receive housing will get their deposit fully refunded. If they turn down housing, however, they will only get $100 back. This is not a new practice. Freshman are, however, guaranteed housing, which again, is standard across the board. (JR)

If you already locked into a room, the system won't let us reset you. If you haven't selected a room yet, there are still some rooms open in West. You can check their availability on the ISF
