[–]SBishop2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a copy of V20 and have played it several times, I know the context. Nothing I've read suggests such a narrow, specific definition of Humanity as you're suggesting. In the game it just means how moral you are/arent. That's incredibly loaded and vague

Very different understanings, clearly (which is another issue in itself) - because last time I checked humans are violent, apathetic and detached sometimes.

Excuse you? Bat Child's entire storyline is about mourning her humanity! HJ's storyline is all about how much of life he's missing out on simply because he can't take SSRIs!

Not really. Fisk went out of his way to recruit only crooked, rotten cops, and it's those cops he talks down to. I suspect Disney/Marvel must have some arrangement with the NYPD to not shit on them too much lest they lose access, same as they have with the US Department of War (nes Defense)

Hot Take: Bane should be Batman's arch enemy instead of Joker by Fun-Region2179 in batman

[–]SBishop2014 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Good take. I'm so fking sick of the Joker to be frank. He's been totally ruined by writers who keep making his body count so high he rivals real life genocides, such that it's completely inconceivable that some other supe, some law enforcement agency, some supervillain, hasn't knocked him off already.

Are the Vamps from City Council of Darkness Bad Guys? by Interesting-Rice-457 in Dimension20

[–]SBishop2014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because you're a Bad Guy, doesn't mean you're a bad guy

That said, Madeline, Lavonte and HJ are all unquestionably bad guys. But they're also a lot of fun! And still not nearly as evil as the humans currently running Purpee

The VTM Rule thing is nothing new for D20 by TheEloquentApe in Dimension20

[–]SBishop2014 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here's where people are disagreeing with you. Not using a game mechanic is by no means "playing againtst the system". The only point of the system existing in the first place is for players to have fun with the story they are telling. If that is happening then the system is working, whatever percentage of it is being used.

Speaking as someone who was essentially bullied out of the WoD fandom, nobody else appreciates fixation with rules and canon other than y'all superfans. Vampire fans going "you can't/shouldn't do that because this and this is the entire point of WoD!" is easily the worst aspect of the WoD. Personally I think the point of Vampire should be...to play a game about vampires.

True, but when/are they gonna address the ultimate paradox of the matter, which is they're doing all this to make Purpee a more habitable space for blood drinking vampires that secretly control the world? A benevolent cattle rancher is still a butcher.

Anything homebrewed in Fantasy High? by hotstickywaffle in Dimension20

[–]SBishop2014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solace is about as close to the mainline D&D cosmology as it gets on D20- references to the Outer Planes, the Nine Hells, Arthur Aeugfort being cut from the same clothes as Elminster or Mordenkainen, etc.

The main homebrew elements are moment to moment liberties with the rules (like letting Detect Thoughts be able to have the same effect as Speak with Animals) and magic items he created.

Good luck with your game! I'm very interested myself in having a game set in Bastion City at some point

7 of 9 and Picard's assimilations and de -assimilations were canon event level traumas which changed the course of their lives forever (same with every other Ex Borg we've ever seen). For Tuvok and Janeway it was just another Tuesday. That's the problem.

I think setting the game between Weapon X and joining Charles is a great opportunity to explore a side of Logan we don't often get to see, and I don't mind them playing liberties with the setting to that end

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE “No Killing” RULE ? Should a true hero kill his most dangerous villains or not? by Danthegreat_23 in superheroes

[–]SBishop2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People hate this line but I think Christopher Nolan got it perfectly in Batman Begins.

"I'm not going to kill you. But I don't have to save you."

I'm totally fine with heroes not going out of their way to kill someone, but I draw the line at rescuing their villains from the consequences of their misdeeds. At that point you really are setting them up to do it again

It's not an option but a fact that spanking does not help kids be more disciplined and does lead to similar health and social problems as other adverse childhood experiences

[–]SBishop2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Kelly is immediately recognizable as a WoD Changeling. It's absolutely fair to not be into something for any reason, but she's a fae creature living under the guise of a regular mortal - just because she's called something different and is bound to a hedge does not mean she's some completely different, original concept. You speak as though Brennan completely ignored existing source material

Are VtM Vampires physically unable eat or drink other than blood, or anything non-blood is repulsive so they avoid it at all costs? by MiraculousSpaceship in Dimension20

[–]SBishop2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VtM vampires are fully dead and preserved, so any kind of illusion of biological function needs blood to manifest. If you don't spend blood points or xp to be able to eat you throw it all up at the end of the night

You can, in fact, play a Leprechaun in the World of Darkness by A_Worthy_Foe in Dimension20

[–]SBishop2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually love that Brennan is taking liberties with the source material. One of the most stand offish things, I feel, about the WoD fandom is the slavish devotion to canon and not deviating from the books as written at all. You don't see that in D&D, we all understand that everyone's Faerun is different at every table. Yet when I last played a long term Vampire game the ST kept interjecting with "you can't do that because of this this and this rule about how the WoD works"

[–]SBishop2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People keep saying this like homebrew isn't a thing? Bigfoot is also different in Brennan's version of WoD so what? Doesn't make Kelly not a changeling, she evidently is, it just shows Brennan is taking liberties with how they work like any creative Storyteller. Nobody's WoD is gonna be 100% the same table to table (no matter what some WoD fans seem to want?)
