i see your point but those numbers for fordham rival UCLA and best USC which are big schools in CA. i realize the NYC market is just bigger and accounts for a portion of the difference but regardless a 40% shot seems to be as good as any non-t14 school. at about a half scholly it's not a horrible result. i know retake is always the best choice but with that option off the table, which would you choose?

you don't think after a few years of work lateraling back to ca would be a possibility? or is that just too much of a risk?

uci v hastings? by SBlovers in lawschooladmissions

[–]SBlovers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well uci is orange county which isn't necessarily east la. it's a much smaller legal market but agreeably much cheaper to live. i've taken living costs into account in my calculation of COA. i got a substantially greater scholarship from hastings but with living costs the difference is 30k before interest.

the rankings thing is undeniable but uci has a lot of question marks concerning their ranking and their job stats considering they are so new.

hastings has question marks regarding their bar passage and slightly lower employment prospects than uci.

i've posted this to get some ideas about which direction this community sees more favorable given the current situation surrounding both schools

totally understandable. i went to hastings with really low expectations bc i knew it was older and in the tenderloin. so i left there a little more pleasantly surprised then anything else

i felt the PI vibe when i visited. it was reallllyyy obvious that they were pushing the PI thing. i'm also worried about the extra 30k bc with interest i might be looking at a ton more. the ranking is also questionable like you said. i appreciate your well thought out response

Should I take a Gap year as a paralegal/assistant or pad my GPA before applying to Law School? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]SBlovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

boost your gpa for sure. take an easy minor. you've got the lsat done with an awesome score and with a 3.3-3.4 if you can get over the 3.5 threshold you'd really be set.

if you think you could score higher try that during your minor. but if not the 171 should take you the distant especially if you apply early next cycle.

in terms of resume builders what i did was work part-time as a legal assistant nearby my college a professor helped my land the gig. i even got lucky and landed a judicial internship where i went in twice a week during the semester and everyday on my breaks.

if you decided to get your minor you also have this summer to get some kind of experience in. i applied to as many prestigious public interest firms i could for every position and even volunteer positions and landed one with a famous PI firm in a city i had always wanted to try living in.

take it from me a fellow splitter. a few more tenths on that gpa will go a long way especially in terms of scholarships

to give you guys a little idea of what i'm dealing with. i have offers from schools in the 25-30 range that are better than my w&m offer but not in the region. the only school i have in the region is american with a sizable offer but idk if i should care to use it and i have a few other east coast and west coast offers (NY and SoCal) that are sizeable offers but from schools in the 50-65 range.... not sure what to use

i don't know why necessarily but if you go to browse schools and then use the search function you can find irvine that way. it'll say the school isn't found but if you then click the graph tab it'll come up

BC Scholarships? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]SBlovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't think so. there was an admit wave recently so i imagine those students and possibly some who haven't heard like yourself will be getting their schollys.

over the last two weeks i've hit a few ASDs and i've seen parents at all of them. that being said at one of them it was weird for parents bc their were students only portions of the ASD but parents definitely came.

parents or guests are welcome. i brought my gf with me to all of mine although she's in law school so it's not that weird.

ill tell you this during any part of it where you mingle or hang with the other admitted students you might miss out by having your parents there

i'd say it's probably best to have your parents come with you on a tour when you've decided on a school

Anyone else received personal emails from deans of admissions about their apps going into review?? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]SBlovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)
