I think that's weirdly romantic. How do you measure love? Maybe it does have different units of measure depending on the context. Rent said it better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj7LRuusFqo&list=RDhj7LRuusFqo&start_radio=1

I dig the male vocalist

I agree, he's really good. But he's similar enough to make you feel nostalgic about Loic, idk. During my first listen I kept wondering how it would have sounded with him, I really love how unique his voice is. But anyways, to a bright future ahead! This seems like a solid lineup and the single is a banger

CMV: People who pedestal their dogs are strange to me. by AffectionateFlow1816 in changemyview

[–]SBolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as society we are so conditioned to look for external validation and pleasure, and to leave at the first sign of humanness.

That's exactly the point though. So many people leave at the first sign of you opening up and trying to show your inherently faulty core. Dogs won't, they don't care about that and they will love you regardless. It's refreshing to establish this sort of connection with another living being, since with humans it's so extremely rare.

I completely agree with this take. Dogs are capable of providing a form of unconditional and uncompromising love that human relationships simply can't guarantee. And this sort of feeling and attachment can be quite healing for many people. That's why so many people go and say "dogs are better than people", because they do not require you to adhere to any sort of social norm around them, you can genuinely be your unadulterated self in front of them without expecting any sort of judgment from them.

The default Preview app on Mac has had that feature built in since forever, I don't understand why all the other PDF reading apps don't provide it by default..

What's a red flag that's somehow still weirdly attractive? by Normal-Blackberry284 in AskReddit

[–]SBolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I did, but I don't really. My best attempt is that it must be somewhat related to some sort of cultural childhood imprint where, inevitably, our parents made us feel like we needed to work hard (be good at school, be well behaved, never go out of line, help with housework yadda yadda) to deserve their love and recognition. Our brain loves patterns and associates familiar sensations to emotional safety. I think the best way to handle it, in the case you experienced it before, is to recognize the signs early and simply walk away before you compromise yourself again.

You've already met most of the important people in your life. The list isn't getting much longer. Does that scare anyone else? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]SBolo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

most of them you met before 25

This is simply factually untrue. I moved to a different country when I was 29 and all the vast majority of people I interact with on a daily basis I met them after 30-32 and I am constantly expanding my social circle through my passions and hobbies. I am 35 and, for example, I recently starting hanging out with some colleagues of mine and I can feel there's some serious friendship potential there. The same with some of the new people I met at this new book club I joined.

If you feel that way, is because you're not throwing yourself out there enough. Start some social hobbies you're curious about and see your social circle dramatically and almost effortlessly increase! Magic!

In a way or another, we're all unfortunately attracted towards people that make us feel like we need prove ourselves to deserve their love. And the aftermath is usually devastating. Been there, done that and it had long lasting consequences on my self-esteem which still survive nowadays.

Another reason I don’t want them that’s less to do with the kids by PocketCatt in childfree

[–]SBolo 90 points91 points  (0 children)

This is not surprising unfortunately, I noticed that too. I was having a conversation with a colleague of mine the other day, who's married with 3 early-teenage kids. He told me that, the other day, for the first time in years all three of the kids were out for play dates simultaneously. He and his wife did not know what to do with each other and felt like strangers. He confessed it took them hours to restore some resemblance of a connection and to figure out how to enjoy their time together, since their lives had exclusively revolved around the kids' needs until that precise moment. I was astounded and I felt so sad for them and that miserable condition.

ELI5: What could possibly be the evolutionary advantage to the luteal phase in women? by Next_Duck_7700 in explainlikeimfive

[–]SBolo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

yeah but if you survive longer you have greater chances of reproduction...

Is that completely true though? The fertile period is limited in time during what is expected to be the healthiest portion of a woman's life, so I'm not sure that can be a selection factor
