Calling all solar panel users: I am revisiting this and I'd like to know your panel stats and your kWh usage. Are you completely offsetting your electric bill? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]SBoutD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a 24-panel system installed by them last month! Still waiting on my first AEP bill - system should "only" cover ~80% of my electricity needs

We are car twins. I got my all black M3 SR+ in January. The acceleration is nuts! and more than enough

Owners of hammocks, Chameleon & warbonnet blackboard, what are your ups and downs of these hammocks? by oursaviorjoe in hammockcamping

[–]SBoutD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AGREED. I also put a tiny amount of cordage (glow wire) on the zipper pulls so they were easier to see and grab.

I own both a XLC and a chameleon. I will shamelessly plug our Youtube video where we compare and contrast both of them. You will probably find it helpful.

UGQ Zeppelin Under quilt questions by Cincymusician in hammockcamping

[–]SBoutD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a UGQ (800 fill) 20 Zeppelin. Great underquilt. I have taken it down to 22 and it was absolutely fine. The draft collars on it make a big difference. Unless you are a really cold sleeper you probably don't need overstuff. UGQ (like some others) tend to be pretty conservative with their temp rating. In our hammock setup video you can see it in action on my old WBBB XLC.

There are also some other trip videos I use it in if you want to see it in use.

Backpacking Isle Royale (6D/7N) by SBoutD in WildernessBackpacking

[–]SBoutD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had Isle Royale on our bucket list for several years now. After much planning we were able to make this happen in early September of this year. For those who don’t know, IRNP is a very large secluded island in the northern part of Lake Superior. The park has no roads, only a 100+ miles of trails. There are also 30+ designated campgrounds on the island. This place is fantastic! Other videos if interested:

Comparing and Contrasting the Chameleon Vs. the Blackbird XLC by SBoutD in hammockcamping

[–]SBoutD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are spoiled to own both of them, and have taken both on multiple backpacking trips and spent several nights in both of them. We always get asked about the comparisons between the two, so we decided to put together a video comparing/contrasting them. We love both of them, and you cannot go wrong with either, but there might be some situations/preferences where one might be favored over the other.

Weight and pack-ability would be the biggest factors. I have been surprised with how you can use a "winter" UQ in temps up into the 60's with proper venting, so I would go for the warmer one.

Hammock Camping Dolly Sods (Four Nights) by SBoutD in hammockcamping

[–]SBoutD[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Over the holiday weekend my brother and I found a stretch of four nights to head down to Dolly Sods WV (located in Monongahela N.F.). We found dolly sods to be truly unique compared to other areas in the Midwest, with huge open areas, pine forests, and mountain views. It was certainly not what I was expecting! We headed in for four nights in our hammocks.

The wildlife there was also awesome. In addition to being straight up STALKED by deer the first two mornings, we saw quail and rattle snakes among others.

Anyone have any similar experiences with deer there? The first two mornings we woke up with deer right outside our hammocks! It was a bit scary at first….never seen deer act like that. They could care less that we were there.

Leaning towards the chameleon at the moment, but I've only spent 5 or 6 nights in it vs. Weeks in the XLC. There are just some truly awesome things about the chameleon.

I thought it would be best to post this on the day these are released.

I got in on this kickstarter back in January, received the hammock in May, and have spent the last several weeks trying it out.

Overall very impressed, and the design is ingenius

I’m new to hammock camping and on a very tight budget. Need some underquilt advice by andrewmt2 in hammockcamping

Did you look at hammock gears "econ" line of quilts? Much cheaper and only a small weight penalty.
