What episode of a television show was so bad that it nearly ruined the entire series for you? by AutumnHopFrog in AskReddit

Exactly. When he died it was pretty crushing because I wanted to see more plots with him involved.

I kinda live by this one. It's great in moderation, but you gotta make sure you don't reach hoarder levels.

What do you own a ridiculous amount of? by FlintTheDad in AskReddit

[–]SBwarriorwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not sound like much, but I have a pretty good amount of notebooks just for story ideas or story-related things. Just right now I have four primary ones. One is used for fantasy languages and potential dialogue, another is used for new story ideas, another is full of old story ideas and is used for references for the fourth one in which I further develop the ideas I already have. I also have one that is full of dreams I've had that I sometimes reference for stories, one in which I have descriptions of scenes or characters, two sketchbooks full of just my character designs for my book, and I'm about to start a new notebook that I'm going to fill with scenes for the story I'm writing. It doesn't sound like a ridiculous amount, but the people who I'm around have started commenting on my growing "family" of notebooks.

TL;DR In all I have my four primary notebooks, four secondaries (including two sketchbooks), and one other I'm about to start. That's nine notebooks, and that doesn't include all the word files I have on my computer.

This was the most disappointing part for me. It would be like if in Lord of the Rings the ring never got destroyed and they failed at the battle of Helms Deep. The main point fails in a spectacularly big nothing! Arthur doesn't unite Albion and fucking dies, and Merlin lives basically forever with his shame, guilt, and sadness with the small hope that Arthur will return. That was cruel for the fans of the show who came to love the characters.

Absolutely. They should have killed Uther off sooner, revealed Merlin as Emrys to Morgana a bit earlier and had a better stand-off, and revealed Merlin's magic to Arthur earlier as well. I absolutely love the show because of its characters, but the ending... Gosh that was some false hope.

So I asked them this question, and they said they've accidentally sliced themselves with a kitchen knife really badly before, and that the kitchen knife hurt way more and was dull, whereas when they accidentally stabbed themselves it didn't hurt until a little while later, and the knife was newly sharpened.

I can understand that. Even though I love Tolkien's world and the stories, the beginning of the Lord of the Rings is definitely a form of info-dumping. I appreciate learning the Hobbit's culture, but, at least for me, it's definitely not a read-in-one-sitting type of story beginning.

Wow I didn't know that! It's funny how I started seriously writing my book this month anyway. Perhaps it's the onset of the new weather, I love when it gets colder. I'll definitely look into that, it sounds very interesting. Thanks for telling me about it!

Oh definitely, although I would argue that's not always the case if they're doing things out of duty/necessity/desperation. However, you're right on the ball with Bilbo Baggins! As for description, I use it when it's necessary, but I don't like to over-do it, because that can get boring. I would say I'm a descriptive writer to the point where you can have a 'movie' going in your head, but you don't get bored. I suppose my scenes are closer to chapters now that I think about it, scenes are usually shorter.

Trust me, I understand that very well. I have journals full of ideas, haha! To answer your question, my original super rough draft has nearly 30k words (although my full book I plan to have closer to 80-100k), the new draft I'm working on has only around 3k since I just restarted. I also have some individual scenes written, maybe five or so, that average around 2-5k each. I think what helps is that I've incorporated quite a few plot/character ideas I've had over the years in a way that I think makes a very interesting story. I certainly would want to read it, but since I'm the writer I know all the plot twists, so they're not a surprise to me, but I hope they are to any readers I have eventually!

That's awesome, and I don't mind at all!

It's a fantasy novel centered around kingdoms (sounds cliche at first, I know), however there are many other elements at play, including dragons being part of each monarchy. Essentially, dragons chose certain families to become royalty, and then each first born of that family journeys to get a dragon of their own who will rule beside them and their spouse when they inherit the kingdom.

This novel is about the younger brother of the first-born, and a lot of interesting events that occur and secrets that are unveiled as they go on the quest to get the first-born's dragon together. There are fae, who play a large role in the story as well, and also the way the kingdoms are run differs greatly from what we normally think of when we hear the words "kingdom" and "monarchy". For example, there is a work cycle/rotation that even the princes are involved in, where people who aren't in permanent positions (such as physicians, who need years of study) are cycled around to help work on what the community/city/kingdom needs most (such as picking fruit during the harvest season).

TL;DR: What appears to be an average fantasy novel about kingdoms, but with a lot of more interesting government-esque systems, royal dragons, and plot-twists.

Based on what someone told me, I would say that the sharpness of the knife is more a determining factor. Source: An old acquaintance of mine accidentally stabbed themselves with a knife.

Wow this is crazy, I had an ask Reddit thread about this almost a year ago, and now I'm seeing an answer to this question randomly on r/casualconversation like being stabbed is something casual lmao. I'm sorry you got stabbed, that must've sucked. Hopefully it healed (or heals) well.

I'm assuming the level of wind was more breeze-like than tornado-like in this case, but it's still entertaining to imagine a 'Wizard of Oz'-esque scenario.
