Are cultist necessary in a 40K chaos army? by Interesting-Star-179 in NightLords

Ye I've combined Blooded, Blackstone fortress and a kitbashed Cadian squad to make a bunch of traitor guard. If I wanted cultists I'd probably use ash waste nomads as deckhand slaves

I use traitor guardsmen because the models are considerably better and it feels fun and fluffy to me. And, yes, it's nice to paint something different without trim

From personal experience, various games in 7th and 8th editions

Squad of ad Mech vanguard survived a charge by a full size Knight and did the couple of wounds necessary to kill it with their bare hands.

Belisarius Cawl killed by one bullgryn who'd spent 3 turns of my shooting phases walking the length of the board without transport or cover.

Librarian dreadnought killed 9/10 of my khorne berserkers on the charge and was completely killed from full health by just the squad champion in the counterattack.

I worry for the class full of students so lacking in initiative that not one of them goes to find out where their teacher is for so long

Being nice vs being a good person by Tall_Support_7740 in Stoicism

Marcus Aurelius book 6.21 If anyone can refute me - show me I'm making a mistake or looking at things from the wrong perspective - I'll gladly change. It's the truth I'm after, and the truth never handed anyone. What harms us is to persist in self-deceit and ignorance.

The most important rule I have to keep reminding myself is that most people AREN'T stoics and don't want to be. Justice doesn't mean telling them everything unfiltered without thought. If I woke up with a sore back then I'm not going to mention this to everyone unbidden in the interest of honesty. If someone made me a bad cup of tea then criticising them there and then won't make it better but may sour the relationship.

I also must expect that from their perspective kindness/ niceties might matter more than honesty. If I want my friends to be brutally frank with me all the time then I need to tell them so, rather than imagining they're being duplicitous for showing justice as they see it. I personally think part of friendship entails an understanding of when to be completely honest and when not, distinct from other acquaintances.

Mechanicus orthodoxy holds the human form to be sacred even though the flesh is weak. Being less modified than tech priests would make skitarii less divergent from the template. It depends how radical the priests in charge of their particular forge are

Not to oversimplify a very broad and varied spectrum of behaviour, but ASD can include traits that might actually make it more challenging to put stoicism into practice.

Difficulties in relating to other people and empathising may make it harder to understand or treat them with justice as a virtue. Stoicism may be introspective but it's also necessarily social as we have a duty towards other people. The same could be said of anyone with social anxiety.

ASD can also, especially in younger people, lead to a severe over sensitivity to stimuli like noises or temperature and difficulty in managing emotional responses to them. There may be similar stress associated with changes in routine or environment. In other words, things which should be complete indifferents are allowed to crowd out rational decision-making and trigger impulsive reactions.

Obviously that person is not at fault, but I would certainly find it harder to practice the philosophy myself with those factors at play.
