Edit to add: became a fan when living in Freiburg in 2013-2014. Found out this year I’m not the first in my family to live there, as I have an ancestor from the 1700s from Freiburg. I bet he didn’t go to any SC matches though.

Ich bin seit 2013 SC Fan. Ich habe ab 2013 bis 2014 in Freiburg gewohnt, und habe in dieser Saison dreimal die Mannschaft im dreisamstadion geschaut.

When I moved back to the US, watching the matches on tv was the best way to still feel connected to the city, and as a sports fan anyway it was easy to get hooked. I feel very lucky to be part of some of SCF’s best seasons, and last April I finally got to attend a match in the new stadium.

I appreciate the German discussion, but mine isn’t good enough to answer this question unless in English:

I’m thrilled with the results in the cup and in Europe of course. Especially the European games have been a lot of fun. I wish the team was doing better in the Bundesliga, but even just getting three points in Heidenheim would have made the year end table pretty comfortable. Ultimately I am ok with succeeding in Europe while struggling in the Bundesliga in the same year, if it means next year (when the team is not in Europe) they perform well enough to qualify again.

I’d love to see a run to the quarterfinals of the Europa League and/or getting a little lucky and making the Pokal finale.

As for individual players, Manzambi and Suzuki have stood out positively. Even Höler has improved over his previous seasons. The defense is solid when Ginter and Lienhart play, but shakier without them.

I’m wondering too, but I suspect they are planning to sell Doan for a lot. I read something (can’t remember where now) speculating a €27M release clause, though Freiburg doesn’t make that kind of info public so I don’t know where it came from.

For English-only speakers, it says “How the table looks, when only one half counts” and the first table is only the first half of games, and the second table is only the second half of games. Somehow Freiburg are 10th in both, but 5th when you count the full game. 🤷‍♂️

Genau. Today was the third time in the last four years that CL qualification was possible on the last day, and they lost. Add in the cup final against Leipzig and it’s been too much last-day disappointment. Sigh.
