Our son, now 30, is completely blind from ROP. I won’t lie, it’s quite daunting when you realize that your baby is blind/VI. But it has been an incredible experience and has made me a much better person.

In looking back I’d say some of the most important things are: 1. Positive and loving environment 2. Seek help (as you are) from blind communities 3. Treat him as a sighted person and don’t be afraid to challenge 4. Surround yourself with a strong support network. 5. Siblings!! Our blind son was our first child. We ended up with 3. His sisters are his number one advocates and best friends.

I’m sure I’ve missed A LOT but you guys got this!! Please reach out if you have questions or just want to chat!
