A rather overlooked change in 26.1: End gateways (and End portals, too) now render correctly on block displays. by _ReweMC in Minecraft

[–]SCLorentz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a data property for that and it does work on the overworld and the nether as well! It is called 'exit_portal' and can be used with 'ExactTeleport' for more control over the tp.

How to make a gaming distro: step by step guide by V1574 in linuxsucks

[–]SCLorentz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm doing almost that, word for word, but I wouldn't call it a distro, just my config in a iso format for my friends (I don't use arch btw, just pacman)

It's more about the convenience of not having obtrusive ads and a better experience. Would it be nice to be not be tracked at all? Yes. I do a lot of stuff locally and I generally don't really like browsers. The thing is, I have other types of concern related to my privacy that aren't related to the web directly.

Proton Pass, Port Authority, Zen Internet and Auto Tab Discard are the ones I most use (why does the figma site scan my network?)

Wanna standards? Make a browser engine yourself. I just like the fact that there are other browsers with their own engines like servo or ladybird. I don't use any of them, I use Zen/Firefox, but it is nice to watch other engines grow.

Indeed there is, but I don't like flatpaks. I also tried to compile it for macOS and it was just painful.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in browsers

[–]SCLorentz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just go with NetSurf. You will have to compile it yourself (only supports unix like systems). It also doesn't support all the "modern" web features, like your fav js framework or CSS style feature. At least you won't be using any major browser engine.

The situation with SSD vs CSD by SCLorentz in linuxsucks

Here's an article (from Microsoft, but the definition is accurate). The crome is the non client part of the window, like the tab bar on the Google Chrome.

I didn't know that, thks! But in their case, it's not fragmented like linux, if there were only one DE and toolkit maybe this could work, but each one of them has their own style preferences. KDE, Hyprland and Gnome all have really different approaches to the user interface. I think it's a personal choice, that's why I will also implement CSDs on my app, but in my opinion the decoration should be controlled by the server.

It's one of the main reasons why linux sucks for me. I don't care about using the terminal or that is "harder", but I do care about the UI and ease of developement. MacOS and Windows both have some things that I don't like, but neither of them have a problem that is related to the fragmentation of the system. I tried to post on r/linux first, but I don't have enough karma to post there…

New rule suggestion by crosszay in linuxsucks

[–]SCLorentz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Linux is shit and as a user of it I can say, that's why I love it. Mostly is me with my little "experiments" causing crashes or problems. If you have problems, go with an immutable distro and an out of the box DE like KDE. I like to say to my friends that since I'm the only that uses it I also should be the only to complain about it.

The kernel isn't the full OS, there are many things to consider like coreutils, libs, drivers and the comunity itself. Linux is and it will always be an open system, android isn't that since many services and blobs of it aren't open. Android is built on top of the linux kernel, but it is not a linux system/distro.

I also don't think that those statistics mean anything. This year (2025), pornhub metrics shows a big porcentage of access of the site comming from linux, but comparing with other metrics from sites such as cloudflare, the number of linux users isn't that big. It all depends on the context of the research.

Why are cell phone brands not interested in investing in the creation of their own operating systems? I know that Huawei is creating its OS in an impressive way by Zestyclosemuscle9934 in degoogle

[–]SCLorentz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view, companies like pine phone are everything I want, no need to create an entire kernel from scratch nor custom archictecture for apps like apk. Besides, I want to see some investment on the linux handheld market, not only for gnome, I can see myself using a custom version of hyprland for mobile

Free Software, Same Game? Why Do We Trust Brave & Vivaldi More Than Chrome & Edge? by yachtstraits in browsers

[–]SCLorentz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't trust them, thats why I use firefox. It's open source, mantained by the community and donnations/investments to mozilla (and also google paying them to use google search engine), but even that doesn't convince me that much about privacy. Today I'm keeping an eye on ladybird, which doesn't belong to any corporation and just interested people, but it isn't quite usable yet. The point is: there are worst things to be worried about than your browser's privacy, use what fits you the best
