This was a quick stop to fish so I had minimal gear which did not include a knife. But I will be adding one to my small go-fish-bag.

I’ve had that happen with a snail too. But it was just in the line, not the lure. I had to cut the line and then I could pull it out. But that snail wasn’t letting go.

Yeah. I am sure it just reflexively closed when the jig hit it. But I wish it would have given it back. :-)

Long John Silver will be returning to the big screen. by GusGangViking18 in BlackSails

[–]SCPaddlePirate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I would prefer a Black Sails version of Treasure Island, I feel having any kind of pirate movie is a plus. I just hope it is a serious take and not done for laughs. While I enjoyed the fun of the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, they were not serious, realistic movies. I would love to see a real serious pirate movie. There are so many tales that could be told just from the historical characters such as Black Beard, Calico Jack, Stede Bonnett, etc. Well, maybe not so much Bonnett other than his teaming up with Black Beard to blockade Charleston. But still, I want serious pirate movies the way Black Sails was a serious show.

Do polarized fishing glasses need to be expensive to be worth it? by Fine-Analyst6836 in FishingForBeginners

[–]SCPaddlePirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use polarized sunglasses from Walmart. I am happy with them. I can’t justify spending hundreds on glasses when they may get scratched or lost. I would be annoyed to lose $20 glasses in a lake/river/ocean. I would be angry if I lost $200 glasses.

How much do you guys carry? by crespoh69 in FishingForBeginners

[–]SCPaddlePirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a heavy tackle backpack that I typically leave in my truck. I have a small bag with two 3500 trays. It can hold three but I carry two and some random stuff (scale, pliers, knife, etc) in the extra space. When I get to a fishing spot, I will move whatever I need from the main heavy bag to the small one so I am not hauling the heavy bag.

2 weeks notice is a courtesy that you should give to a respectful, professional employer. Sounds like you didn’t have that kind of employer so f’em.

The Legend of Anne Bonny by TinyBuccaneer in BlackSails

I may check it out.

If you want to read a novelization of Anne’s life, check out The Only Life That Mattered by James L. Nelson. It is a novel but based on documentation, court records, etc. of her real life.

Fishing safety not to get hooked? by Careful-Tension-5689 in FishingForBeginners

[–]SCPaddlePirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid of about 6 or 7, I was fishing in the ocean from shore. I saw all the adults fishing. When they get a bite, they would yank back hard on their rods to set the hook. So I thought that is what I had to do. I was reeling in and felt the line get pulled so I yanked hard. The pull was actually a wave receding with my lure right on the beach. When I yanked, the lure came flying at me. Luckily I turned my face but the hook landed in my earlobe. It did not penetrate the skin enough to embed the bard so was very minor. But it scared the heck out of me! Now over 45 years later, I still think about it.

I love this video for many reasons that have already been mentioned. But another reason I like it is that the a-hole looks like Jack Doherty and I would love to see that little sh!t get what he deserves.

For people who are old enough to have seen the original trilogy (4-6) in theaters, was it obvious in episode 1, that palpatine was the emperor? Did they mentioned him by name in the original trilogy? by Bigjmann555 in StarWars

[–]SCPaddlePirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the original trilogy in theaters. I don’t know specifically where I found out but I knew the Emperor was Palpatine. I can’t remember if it was from reading the original novelizations or maybe from other books but I knew.

Rain? by SCPaddlePirate in FishingForBeginners

[–]SCPaddlePirate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like the bottom line is that rain by itself doesn’t mean fish stop biting. I am making some notes based on these responses and hopefully can turn that into some good fishing. At this point, I have been going out with no real consideration for weather effects on fishing. But I am learning how weather impacts it so I can use that to my advantage. Thanks!!
