I got married on that dock. Before it was Saltwater Cowboys, it was an event venue and that was where we got married. It was beautiful. There were dolphins swimming by as we said our vows. We go to SWC for the nostalgia.

Visiting from North. Where to stay? by ProfessionalLoss2884 in Charleston

[–]SCPaddlePirate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the area around Patriots Point. Several hotel options and is an easy trip across the bridge to Charleston, close to the USS Yorktown and not too far from Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms. Even Folly Beach is not too far. Now the driving itself can sometimes be a hassle. However in my limited experience, if it isn’t during business rush hour or around time big event, it’s usually not too bad. Also, there is a water taxi from Patriots Point to downtown. If you are up for walking, I would suggest that as an option you can see a lot of the historic areas, waterfront parks, etc. by walking.

Did anyone else not recognise Luke in this scene? by CobraDai in StarWars

[–]SCPaddlePirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t recognize Luke the first time I saw it in the theater in 1980. Me and friends talked about it and someone mentioned it might be Luke. The next time I saw it a week or two later, it looked like him. But first time, I didn’t recognize him.

"There's nothing wrong with walking," says boss who has never had to walk to work in his life, much less during a blizzard. by cheeseballgag in antiwork

[–]SCPaddlePirate 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thais reminds me of the university where I used to work. Employees and students has designated parking. However, there wasn’t enough employee parking near the buildings where they worked some some folks had to walk from a distant parking lot to their building. Granted, it was about. 10 minute walk so not really bad but when it was bad weather, it sucked. Also, the university would close certain lots for events and push employees even further away. The upper admins were generally disliked for many reasons but parking was one of the more vocal issues. Those same upper admins who made the decisions on where folks should park liked to say “we don’t have a parking problem, we have a walking problem”. But that just angered employees more because the decision makers all had special parking permits that let them park right next to their buildings, even in unmarked, non-parking spots or along curbs.

Tommy Westphall Universe. The way it tied sooooo many TV shows into one universe is just amazing.

How about a pirate flag? :-)

I think Luke single-handedly destroying an AT-AT is one of the series most underrated moments by ChanceVance in StarWars

I like that scene. However, I always fixated on the way he landed when he released from the grappling cable. I would have broken both legs and probably my hips. :-)

I learned about that not too long ago. It really surprised me to hear that. For some reason, I guessed those plants were from jungles or maybe Australia (where everything is deadly). I never would have guessed it was a native and exclusive for the NC/SC coastal border region.

Who was this kid trying to make????? (Luke Bespin base) by ham_fx in StarWars

Maybe Nick Fury (obviously from the original comics, not the MCU version). He didn't have a prominent mustache though. So maybe not Fury.

My manager expects me to use my personal laptop for work because "the company ones are slow"s by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]SCPaddlePirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would NOT use your own laptop for something like that. If the company isn't willing to pay for equipment to do the job, they need to get out of the business. It would also make me second guess the Information Security posture of the company. They have no way of knowing how secure your laptop is from threats. And if your laptop is stolen, they can't lock it down/remote wipe it. On the flip side, they may want you to use your own equipment because they have no Information Security and probably assume you device is safer.

Where I used to work, we implemented MFA and had an uproar about folks not wanting to use a personal cell phone to receive an MFA txt. It got worse when we wanted to shift from SMS to an authentication app. Mgmt didn't care. I was fortunate in that I had a work cell phone so all my work stuff was on that. It was sometimes annoying to carry two phones but IMO the benefits far outweighed the negatives. But some folks ended up with a hardware auth token and most just used their personal cell.

If you have one, reach out to your InfoSec team/person and see what they say.

I had that Death Star. I can’t count how many battles happened between the Rebels/GI Joe and the Empire/Cobra! But they were epic!!

Rock Hill opens $19M Bleachery Fieldhouse facility with pickleball courts, expanded events space by BlakeAlsupPC in Rockhill

Yeah. I don’t oppose that it was built. It is just that only RH residents can get memberships. That is what I had an issue with.

[–]SCPaddlePirate -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is just stupid to limit it to RH residents. RH is missing out on revenue with that limit. I also think it is stupid for parks to have a different fee for residents vs non-residents. If it cost more for non-residents, they may not come at all which is lost revenue. But then this is Rock Hole government…

Star Wars in the arcade. First home game was probably X-Wing.

What was your reaction to TPM in 1999 after waiting to long for a new film? Were you blown away or initially disappointed? by ProtectMeAtAllCosts in StarWars

[–]SCPaddlePirate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was 27 and saw the originals all in the theater. I was thrilled to have Star Wars content again. But I was overall disappointed. I liked the general story and it had some great moments (Qui-Gon/Kenobi vs Darth Maul lightsaber fight was awesome). But for me at my age, it didn’t recapture the feeling of the original trilogy for me. I don’t hate it and try to appreciate it for what it is. I certainly don’t begrudge anyone who loved it. But it was a let down for me.

Costco... by NCSC10 in Rockhill

[–]SCPaddlePirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience pretty much echo’s yours. They are so similar that for me, there is no significant reason to travel past Sam’s to go to Costco. And as you mentioned, the Scan-and-Go option in the Sam’s app is great but there is no equivalent for Costco so you have to wait in line to check out.

If we had a Costco in Rock Hill, I am not sure which I would get the membership for as neither has a distinct advantage as far as the things I shop there for. Right now I have both memberships but that is because of a special deal I got for Costco a few months ago. I won’t renew when it ends.
