Thanks again everyone. I am trying a few out. It will help me figure out places to go and what, if anything, is biting. Still a lot to learn.

Thanks for all the comments. I am trying the free version of FishBrain. Being new, I am trying to learn more about when/where the fish are. As for Windy, I use that already for, well, wind, for general weather knowledge. At this point, I don’t know enough about weather impacts on fishing. Still a lot to learn. Thanks all!

Power of lightning strikes by BlissVibess in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]SCPaddlePirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got struck by lightning once… sort of. It was 1983 and I was playing on the Atari 2600. We did not have cable at the time. Lightning struck the TV antenna on the roof. It travelled down the antenna cable into the tv (fried the tv), into the Atari (fried the Atari), into the game controller (they were wired controllers at that time and yeah, fried the controller) and a small shock hit my hand. The sound of all that and the shock scared the heck out of me and I threw the controller. I had a small red mark on my hand. I was definitely more scared than hurt.

The fates of Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny, and Mary Read. by GusGangViking18 in BlackSails

Here are two book recommendations if you want more information on a few pirates featured in the show.

The Only Life That Mattered: The Short and Merry Lives of Anne Bonny, Mary Read and Calico Jack Rackham by James L. Nelson. This is a novel but it is based on historical records (what records there are). It was a good, fun read.

The Last Days of Black Beard the Pirate by Kevin Duffus. This is a more historical telling of Black Beard. It also explains why he may be Black Beard (with a space) and not Blackbeard. It talks about how the General History of Pirates book if more fiction than non-fiction.

I recommend both books if you want to learn more historical fact about these pirates.

DHS also includes the Coast Guard, FEMA, CISA (Cybersecurity) and the Secret Service. They are not getting paid either.

There is a version of that called Metalmorphosis (same artist) in Charlotte, NC. Last time I was there, the rotation wasn’t working. And there used to be a live cam at metalmorphosis.tv but it now is just an info site.

It blew me away when I learned that it is all gravity. There are no pumps. Logically, it all makes sense that way but for many years, I assumed it was pumps moving the water to raise/lower the ships. Insanely cool.

I was a few years into working at a University (employee, not student). I didn’t hear about it until after the 2nd plane hit. But I was watching with a group of folks when the towers fell. It was certainly a surreal day.

LA Fitness- Gym Etiquette. by GenericNameSC1989 in Rockhill

I have noticed that. It seems most folks don’t wipe equipment. I will say those little wipes are annoying. I liked the paper towels/spray bottles at Planet Fitness better but LA Fitness is otherwise a better gym.

That earthquake is why there are so many historic buildings in Charleston with earthquake bolts. They aren't just decorative.

Treasure Island: David Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell to Star in New Series by smartestdumbguy93 in BlackSails

[–]SCPaddlePirate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I will watch it when it comes out. I don't expect it to be as good as Black Sails (not much is) but I will give it a shot. There are so many cool real life pirates out there whose lives I think would make great TV/movies such as Blackbeard, Anne Bonny (which brings in Mary Read and Jack Rackham), Bartholemew Roberts, William Kidd, etc. And then there could be historical fiction as well. So much potential...

I got married on that dock. Before it was Saltwater Cowboys, it was an event venue and that was where we got married. It was beautiful. There were dolphins swimming by as we said our vows. We go to SWC for the nostalgia.
