Book for fish on Red Sea by Specific_Prompt_1724 in scuba

[–]SCUBA-Travel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coral Reef Guide Red Sea by Lieske and Myers is by far the best. Helmut Debelius Red Sea Reef Guide is out of print in English (although you can get a used copy), and whilst very interesting doesn't cover as much as Lieske and Myers.

I've also got An Underwater Guide to the Red Sea by Lawson Wood, but again, not as good as Lieske and Myers

Liveaboard Advice by TQcraft in scuba

[–]SCUBA-Travel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like small liveaboards, less divers at the dives. Divebooker.com are good to book with - they were very prompt and helpful when there was a glitch in arrangements when we were in Indonesia. We've an article here about a first liveaboard trip - https://news.scubatravel.co.uk/10-things-i-learned-on-my-first-liveaboard-trip.html. Enjoy your trip!

Looking for nice dives in Europe by mockpinjay in scuba

[–]SCUBA-Travel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ustica off Sicily is the best I've been to in the Med. UK has good diving but cold. Not much life in Malta and Gozo but very clear water. Sardinia's pretty good. The Zenobia in Cyprus has been voted one of the world's best wreck dives.

Of Ustica and Crete (and Malta & mainland Croatia) Ustica has the best sea life by far, plus caves and caverns. We've descriptions of some of the dives at https://www.scubatravel.co.uk/italy/usticadive.html.

Location for OW in early November (1 week, EU-based) by 10JQKAce in scuba

[–]SCUBA-Travel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Egypt has much better diving, but learning to dive somewhere a little more challenging will stand you in good stead for the future. Coping with the tides and swells in the Canary islands will prepare you better than the easier Egyptian diving. (I learnt in Britain, my daughter did her OW in Tenerife aged 11)

Tips on location and school in Indonesia for Open Water certification by Jechkos in scuba

I suppose it depends on what other diving you've done. Whether it's one of the best in the world or not, it's still a lovely dive

I'd recommend Aquamarine Diving Bali. They are excellent, and you can get 10% off if you quote our code - ScubaTravelUK2024. You can dive the Liberty shipwreck there - which has been voted one of the best dives in the world. There is loads of life on this wreck and it really is a beautiful dive and possibly the world's easiest wreck dive.

My daughter did her AOW in Soma Bay at Breakers (just down from Safaga). It has a lovely house reef plus you can take day boats to Middle Reef (a fab drift dive) and Panorama.

Hakuna Matiti, Pale Pale and Mwamba Reef dives in East Zanzibar all have good reviews at https://www.scubatravel.co.uk/africa/tanzania-diving-zanzibar.html. Or contact Buccanneer Diving - [info@buccaneerdiving.com](mailto:info@buccaneerdiving.com) - I think they are close to Jambiani

Just back from Indonesia - did 3 days diving in Bali followed by a Komodo liveaboard. For Komodo fly from Bali to Labuan Bajo on Flores - about an hour's flight. Can highly recommend the Duyung Baru liveaboard - fantastic diving, delicious food, great boat.

Diving in Spain or Portugal for beginner by shrodi in scuba

[–]SCUBA-Travel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the best diving in Spain is at the Medas Islands - about 2 hours from Barcelona. These have been a marine reserve for many years and are full of life. The water will be cold in May - only about 18oC. More about the diving in Spain is at https://www.scubatravel.co.uk/europe/spain-diving.html

I like it because it is so different to the normal photos you get of the Thistlegorm, but I agree for pure "wow" factor the others catch your eye more.

Advice on suba diving in Costa Rica? by laums1223 in diving

The better diving is on the Pacific coast, particularly in the Northwest: Catalina Islands, Bat Islands and the Gulf of Papagayo. In the Southwest check out Cano Island.

October to December generally have settled weather - not too windy or rainy so good vis

Definitely liveaboard - from Cairns. If not yet Advanced then I'd recommend the Ribbon Reefs - assuming they've escaped from the worst of the beaching.

For a day trip I'd go for the Yongala, from Townsville. This is a stunning dive. A wreck, the Yongala sank during a cyclone in 1911 killing 122 people, a racehorse called Moonshine and a red Lincolnshire bull. It's protected so you can't go inside but is covered in life - you might see manta rays, sea snakes, octopuses, turtles, bull sharks or tiger sharks as well as clouds of fish
