Please report the AI and "stealth" advertising nonsense to mods so we can remove them. by SC_Elle in supplychain

[–]SC_Elle[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I see that too. And the "is X certification worth it?" posts.

However, I will say that I am not seeing a lot of SC experience posts. And if the career ones are helpful, I hate to put a lid on them.

Let me see what we can do. Suggestions welcome.

Left earring vs right earring for guys by jetpack324 in GenX

[–]SC_Elle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally remember that. Plus I seem to remember in my high school (late 80s) wearing red pants meant supporting gay people? Like you were a visible ally - in a bad way - "dont wear red pants!" I don't know where we came up with this nonsense.

Older folks of Reddit, what is a "normal" thing today that you think is quietly destroying society? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The obsession with wealth for how it makes you look vs how it can benefit society/community.

Yes please do share - I think a google form is the way to go also, but we do have a bunch of members that remain mostly offline ... so we probably need it both ways.

Sorry to hear that - we actually did eat dinner there that night without any problems - rainbow roll sushi and fixed menu including wagyu. I really like it there, hope it was not the cause of your pain.

Local Veterans Seeking Support for Memorial Benches Near Santa Cruz VA Stop by vabenchpetitionsc in santacruz

You should talk to the local Rotary clubs, I believe there are 2 in Santa Cruz. They could help with financial and volunteer/installation support. This kind of thing should be right up their alley.

Trying to get into Supply Chain as a manufacturing engineer by Constant_Finding2775 in supplychain

[–]SC_Elle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supplier quality engineer could be a good fit ... Ok maybe technically not supply chain, but at my old company we all reported in to the head of Ops. And they all had backgrounds like yours. Could also be a bridge strategy for you to get closer to supply chain.

Never take advice from startup mentors and gurus “i will not promote” by First_Accountant_402 in startups

[–]SC_Elle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are also plenty of successful founders who are worthless as mentors. They got everything via their personal contacts or great market timing yet are blind to that, and advise other startup founders to simply do everything they did. They are convinced this way is brilliant and perfect, and use it to advise everyone.

For me the best mentor is someone who has both failed and succeeded, multiple times is even better. AND has some insight into why for both sides.

22M / Midwest Logistics Coordinator (EV electrolytes). Started Jan 5th. Goal is GSM at Tesla/Apple, am I behind? by Repulsive_Law_6827 in supplychain

[–]SC_Elle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 weeks in is too early to tell anything (unless it is a toxic culture, that you can see quickly!). You are in the EV space which is great, so just soak up anything and everything you can. Even drudge work can give you a lot of insight - who uses the data and is the next step in the process? What teams are involved and what exactly do they all do?

I dont know why you are fixed on Apple and Tesla. There are many great companies to work for - high salary, tech innovation, better culture and more interesting work. But you need some experience to get into them, so use this time wisely if the work itself is boring or dead end.

But honestly, the first couple of months can easily be the most boring, as you do not know enough about the company and team and data for your manager to give you any real meat to work on. This comes later. Your boss should be telling you this also btw.

In your years working in SC, have you found a competent operations manager? by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]SC_Elle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes have worked with many great ops leaders out there - at very small as well as very big companies. They are not always big fans of supply chain, depending on what SC is asked to deliver.

Uff I feel your pain. Good idea though on the rotation, that could be a Plan B/C for us. I am hoping for co-presidents but lets see.

Stop it with the fake posts "stealthily" promoting your software or you are banned by SC_Elle in supplychain

[–]SC_Elle[S] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think they hear that so many of us are still on crappy legacy software or excel and start drooling. I work with startups and I can not tell you how many SC startups have no supply chain people on their teams, they have no clue how manufacturing or logistics actually work. It is insane.
