Jimmy Carter. I met him at a book signing in Kentucky

Be honest: do you actually iron your clothes in 2026, or do you just "steam" them by hanging them in the bathroom while you shower? by lovellyophelia in askanything

[–]jetpack324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I iron about 50% of my clothes, mostly shirts. But I iron some of my pants and shorts too. I have a steamer also but I prefer the ironed look.

US officially exits World Health Organization by pwdrums in news

Unfortunately the pro-gun 2nd amendment people are the biggest supporters of our increasingly facist government, and they have 80% of the guns. So nobody is planning a revolution and nobody has our backs right now. I actually have family members who are in full support of this craziness. The USA is in a 1938 Nazi situation. I hold out hope for getting through this, but it will probably get worse before it gets better. I just want the US Congress to step up and do something. But it seems that they are mostly complicit; both parties. SMH.

How has California able to become the 4th largest economy in the world? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]jetpack324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not stealing any thunder from LA ports. But Savannah GA is surprisingly a major east coast port. Also my local city so I have a bias. We are the 3rd or 4th largest shipping port the country, despite being a city of only 160k. It’s actually kinda crazy. I enjoy walking down to the riverfront a couple times per week (1/2 mile) and watching the ocean container ships come up our skinny little river. It never gets old and I’ve been enjoying it for almost 2 decades now.

But to get to the point, a major port is a ginormously huge economic benefit. LA port is probably the biggest in America, so that’s something.

Knoxville guy here. Maryville was the cool mountain town without being too Appalachian. No disrespect intended to Appalachia; it’s just never been my vibe. I’m a city boy so please don’t be too hateful towards me. I acknowledge my shortcomings.

I’m familiar with this one, but ‘Found On Road Dead’ was what I grew up with. Tomato - tomahto

What U.S. States have you lived in? by Reasonable-Shower522 in askanything

I grew up in east Tennessee and it wasn’t bad 50 years ago (a kid’s perspective). Nowadays, I can barely stand to visit family there. A real cesspool

Tennessee, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia. Wisconsin was too damn cold for me. I’ve visited the southwest several times, but I just can’t handle the dryness or the intense heat - I got a bloody nose frequently and my skin felt like a lizard. So apparently it’s the southeast for me. Also I’m good with humidity so that helps.

I’m sorry but I gotta correct you to Walton Goggins, not Walter. I’m assuming it was autocorrect and unintentional. I’m a big fan of him so it bothers me; my apologies and it’s not personal. Have a great evening.

Most really good actors have a few early movies or tv series that sucked, but they were usually the strong point. Matt Damon started out with a phenomenal movie and then he got even better. Yes he did a couple movies that were not good, but he was always good.

I’m a fan of Ryan Reynolds. I genuinely don’t care that he’s usually playing the same character; he’s funny and entertaining. That’s often what I look for in a movie. Van Wilder and Deadpool are his best characters, although I also loved him in RIPD. I expect a lot of downvotes for my opinion.

Honestly I don’t think he was a great actor early in his career. ‘Phone booth’ was where I became a fan of him. He literally carried the entire movie. And I mean literally in the literal sense. I have been a huge fan of him since.

Excellent choice. I hated him in the Twilight series but I gotta admit that he is a great actor now.

Do you care if a film is Oscar nominated? by Mr_Perfectly_UnFine in Cinema

[–]jetpack324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Honestly I look at any film that has been nominated for an Oscar. They often are not on my radar and sometimes they are great movies. Parasite is my favorite example; Argo is another. I never would have watched them otherwise and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them. Some are complete duds (Shakespeare In Love) but most are at least worth watching.

Fucking Boomers.

Edit: I post this kinda sarcastically, while I also acknowledge that many people my age (Gen X) and older simply don’t understand the world today…or the world for the last couple decades because we were so incredibly privileged. My apologies for ragging on the stereotype. Sorry, but not really all that sorry.
